Crowley Eusford (クローリー・ユースフォード Kurōrī Yūsufōdo?) in the Seraph of the End series is publicly a Thirteenth Progenitor among vampires. In the Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign manga he is often accompanied by others such Chess Belle and Horn Skuld, where he is a member of Ferid Bathory's faction. Taking part in the invasion of Shinjuku, he would help capture Shinoa Hīragi and other members of the Moon Demon Company.

After the vampires forces had to retreat due to the arrival of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, Crowley would take up residence in Nagoya City Hall. Successfully keeping Guren Ichinose as a captive for Ferid, he is unaware of, but goes along with their plan. Hiding his strength under Ferid's orders, Crowley is actually equal in strength to a Seventh Progenitor having been sired by using Saitō's blood since he is also regarded as a Michaela. His past experiences as a human crusader are detailed in the The Story of Vampire Michaela light novels.

Along with Ferid he would seek out Yūichirō Hyakuya and members of Shinoa squad including Mikaela Hyakuya. Travelling to, and witnessing the assault on Shibuya, Crowley would come into contact with the First. Able to fend off an attack from members of the progenitor council including Urd Geales by using a sinful key, he would escape and rejoin the squad headed to Akihabara.

Appearance

Human

Michaela book 2

Crowley had blue eyes, with auburn colored hair, and thick eyebrows of the same color. For his hair length, it was short overall, yet long enough on the sides to reach past his jaw where his ears were kept visible. Although sections of his hair were partially over his eyes, where there was a parting in the left centre, Crowley's vision appeared unhindered. His looks were said to have made him quite popular with women.

For clothing worn around the time of the crusades, Crowley was seen wearing a black tunic where the top was held together with a cord like fastening in an X shape. The tunic's length enabled it to cover part of Crowley's waist, and it was held around him with a brown colored belt with a golden frame-style belt buckle that featured a single prong. The tunic was worn over a seemingly white undershirt. The gray colored sleeves may have been part of the same garment as the tunic, or a separate undershirt. Either way they were long-sleeved, yet the length left his wrists showing when his arms were in a bending motion. Crowley wore gloves that were similar in coloration to the sleeves.

Thick leather like shorts were worn over Crowley's thighs, of which the ends had a light gray section. There was a split at the front of this area, to be practical given that leg movements such as crouching could result in the clothing being torn were they not implemented. Brown colored boots were also worn, of which material reached upwards into the shorts to provide total coverage. On other occasions, Crowley wore long light colored pants from under the lower section of his tunic, and over the top of his dark boots.

His merlot like colored cape was ceremoniously worn mostly over Crowley's left shoulder. Apparently it was incorporated to be a part of the tunic on account of seemingly being attached to it via a black band near his left chest area. The cape having somewhat of a collar, it was worn over his entire back where the length would have reached near the ground when Crowley was standing.

Vampire

Horn, Chess, Crowley

He is a tall and muscular vampire with broad shoulders. Crowley has red bangs and thick eyebrows, while the rest of his hair is dark brown. It stands to reason that some sections of his hair may have been dyed. At the top, and back of his hair it is the same length, however a long section is kept in a braid that can come over his shoulder on the left side of his neck. A hair tie is at the end of the braid. A single piercing is in each of his vampire pointed ears. Where they were blue, now Crowley has the signature red eyes that all vampires possess. Additionally, Crowley's physical vampire traits include fangs.

Michaela book 1 - Crowley colored illustration

As a progenitor, Crowley does not wear the standard uniform for vampire soldiers. He wears a white army shirt which has a prominent rigid collar raised and folded around the sides and back of his neck. The top buttons are unbuttoned so as to display his chest. A black band is across Crowley's chest and seemingly fitted to his shoulder pauldrons, which seems to assist with keeping the cape in place. The shirt features eight large brass like buttons, four on each side, they are situated vertically down his abs in parallel lines. The buttons on his left may be decorative, where they are fastened on his right to hold the shirt together.

The cape that extends from Crowley's shirt reaches down to the back of his legs. The same white color on the outside, the interior of the cape is purplish red, a sangria like color. There is a purposeful split in the lower section of the cape so as to avoid having the cloth tear in the event of strenuous movements. This lower cape is around white pants where the frontal view is not obstructed. He has a black belt with a chain on the right side and his scabbard on the left. Tall black boots are worn which reach up the his knees that the pants are presumably fitted into. The boots feature white heels and toe sections.

A combined black sleeve and glove is worn over Crowley's right arm. The sleeve has two white ringed stripes at the end near his hand. This sleeve is fastened to the cape that covers Crowley's left shoulder, and reaches the back of his right shoulder via the band across his chest. The right shoulder pauldron has a different style to the left one, yet they share the same white feature in an overall decorative function. Similarly, Crowley's left glove is white, where the right one that is a part of the clothing's arm design is dark. Rather than used for armor, Crowley's overall attire visually represents that of what a crusader in the 13th century would wear.

Personality

Human

Calm, he is laid-back and gets along well with everyone. Crowley also cares deeply about his comrades. Training hard to protect them during the Crusades, he is also brave. After their commander perishes, Crowley leads the group due to his commander's final order. Crowley tends to smirk a lot.

Despite his strength and capabilities, Crowley knows when he is beaten and gives up after a vampire slaughters his comrades and has him by the neck. After surviving the Crusades, he suffers from PTSD and turns away from rising in the ranks of the knights. This may indicate that his ambition is hindered by illness in this case. Even so, the care for his friends and former comrades energizes him to solve the mystery of their deaths, and also avenge them.

He loses his human life trying to warn his former comrades to escape. Having the resolve to do so, Crowley fights against Ferid until he can no longer move.

Vampire

Crowley ouch ouch ouch

A prevailing sense of calmness

A sense of calmness is retained when Crowley becomes a vampire. Even compelling forces such as a vampire's naturally induced lust for blood is not shown. With a major invasion underway, Crowley calmly walked towards a vehicle coming his way. Undaunted by it speeding towards him, Crowley opted to seize, lift, then casually throw it towards his attackers. Indifferent to injuries to himself, Crowley effortlessly parries away ranged attacks. Unfazed at losing his sword, Crowley recovered quick from the surprise and was content to engage in conversation. Further major surprises such as the view of human experimentation do not rattle him. With an attack underway, Crowley it at ease in monitoring the scenario, and was composed in fending off direct attacks on himself. Unbothered to the point where he would let potentially useful hostages escape, Crowley still remains level-headed enough to stick with goals he suspects may be helpful.

A battle formation, huh? Man, that takes me back. I used to do the same thing a long time ago, when I was human. I know! What say we test it? Let's see if you and Mika, in that little formation of yours... can actually stop me.

–Keen to see how effective Shinoa Squad are. Chapter 52: "Suspicious Mansion"

Crowley Tossing Guren

At ease in a fight

His bravery on show, Crowley is patient where it seems to be leisurely for him when fighting opponents. Even when Crowley is in a tight spot, he remains calm with a pleasant smile. Not very susceptible to fear, Crowley also confident enough in himself that he does not seem to mind recognizing his enemies' abilities while in the battlefield. This is shown when he commended Yu after he lost his sword. In identifying the force of Goshi's illusion, Crowley spoke that it was impressive that an illusion spell conjured by a human could affect even a vampire noble's brain.

Crowley and Ladies

Patiently awaiting developments, and ready for them

Whether things are interesting seems to be an important motive for Crowley's course of actions. He joined Ferid's faction for this reason, and while on the battlefield, he exclaims when something impresses him with an almost childlike fascination. His sense of curiosity takes priority over any inclination to enact violence. Tapping Yu, who he was disarmed by, Crowley had him in mind later. Speaking how humans were livestock was done to infuriate Yu who was drawing upon further demon power, a tactic Crowley employs to fuel and observe the unfolding situation before him.

That's easy. 'Cause you're just livestock. You humans eat cows and pigs. Do you live in fear of them revolting someday? No. In the end... No matter what you do, we will never fear you.

–His response when Yu asks why he is not strong enough, while simultaneously provoking him to examine his increasing demon changes. Chapter 34: "Asura's Power"

Displaying a commendable insight into matters, Crowley notices how fast humans are evolving. Further helpful thinking capacity is shown in Crowley deducing that humans cannot have done it by themselves, which would mean a vampire has gone traitor. Discussing this with his aides, Seventeenth Progenitors Chess Belle and Horn Skuld, he considered the possibility of it being higher ranked vampires. Where vampire nobles came under attack, Crowley wisely suspected Ferid of having a hand in his location being revealed too. Aware of how Yu might react at seeing his family members' bodies, Crowley heeded the possible reaction. When training Yu's seraph aspect was underway, Crowley understood how he was responsible should that go awry. Sharing what he knows is of help, Crowley was right about how fifth progenitor Ky Luc might react to their joint assault.

I was just wondering if the humans might be getting a little too powerful, too fast. See... Humans have always had a lust for power, even if it meant delving into the forbidden to get it. But were they ever this strong before? It makes me wonder. Is someone, somewhere... giving humans information they have no business having?

–Discussing a matter with Chess and Horn, where his guess would be correct as humans are being assisted. Chapter 29: "Who's Pulling the Strings"

Crowley strikes

Targeting Shinoa, the leader of the squad

Preparation and strategizing are of assistance to Crowley. Also warning Chess and Horn about the weapons that were capable of inflicting serious damage on them, to demonstrate first hand, Crowley tested the ability of one to ensure it would be taken seriously. Crowley has a clear mind set concerning humans and where other vampires view them nothing but livestocks, he also does to some extent, but also considers what they can be capable of. Under attack, Crowley used them as bait to attract more enemy soldiers. A successful move, it would transpire the attack on him was part of a larger scale vampire noble targeting operation. In preparing, Crowley could keep Chess and Horn out of danger, where his planning resulted in the capture of the commander of the Moon Demon Company. Willing to play the distraction, in attempting to strike Krul, he was incapacitated, however his action allowed Ferid to perform a second sneak attack to prevail. Together, Crowley had a hand in overthrowing a much stronger third progenitor, and remove the queen of Japan from power. A similar tactic is shown in Crowley drawing the attention of Basteya Irclu, again to help bring about an ambush.

As with Horn and Chess, he is almost always in the company of others, not particularly minding who it is, vampire or human. In comparison to other vampires, Crowley does appear to retain some level of his humanity. Able still feel sympathy for humans, Ferid shows pity for those involved with Ferid's schemes. Crowley looked horrified when learning that Ferid intends to have Yu see all of his family member's corpses. Casual around members of Shinoa squad, Crowley even coaches them in fighting. Where Crowley taunted them before, he is not as cruel when working with them.

Uh, well... It's kinda tough being given friends for the first time in 800 years, is all.

–Speaking to Yu on his changing circumstances. Chapter 53: "Holy Knight's Secret"

Seemingly looking down on his former pride as a crusader, Crowley's views of humans also apparently extend to resenting them for their evil. Clearly being uncomfortable when he speaks about his human life, Crowley expresses disgust when he refers to humans as having killed more than vampires. Despite having fed on humans remorselessly, Crowley has stated that he has never killed even a single human as a vampire. The implication is that while he drained them of a great deal of their blood he has not directly killed a human, yet his has little to say on the injuries he has inflicted on them. He does not hold back when fighting humans when they assault Chess and Horn at the attack on Nagoya, he sweeps Hyakuya Sect agents off the walls at Shibuya. While Crowley has moments of finding matters unpleasant, he is still very much a warrior with the willingness to fight.

Are you serious? Just look at history. Nothing kills more humans than humans. I killed scores upon scores of humans when I was still human. In fact, compared to that, ever since I became a vampire, I practically haven't killed any.

–Sharing views to Yu when he mentions there is something not right about a former human killing humans. Chapter 53: "Holy Knight's Secret"

Knowing how to act given the circumstances, even with it said that he could cut off limbs to prevent at escape, Crowley made use of his skills to engage defensively against Shinoa squad even with the powerful Cursed Gear they had at their disposal. His goal to hamper their escape and buy time for Ferid to arrive, Crowley was also quick to act to prevent Mika from trying to stop an injection to help with Yu's demon state. With Ferid having been captured, Crowley assumed responsibility to transport Shinoa squad to his mansion in his stead. When Ferid came under attack from the First, he acted to fling him away from danger before also defend himself. Finding the much stronger Basteya bearing over Shinoa Hīragi, rather than fight he gained their attention by rapping their sword with his. Speaking as if to an acquaintance was successful in pacifying the violence in a war zone.

In response to stronger threats, Crowley usually reacts by observing then engaging them, unless advised otherwise. Sensible, he followed Ferid's advice to stay near him if he wanted to live, where Crowley had little clue that a seraph generating event was to come. Doing what he could to defend from Urd Geales when he was attacked, Crowley was ready to activate the Sinful Key that could bring ruin to him, as well as Lest Karr, and Ky Luc. Although having leverage over far stronger foes, Crowley took Ferid's guidance to escape which he was fine with doing.

History

thumb|left Crowley used to be a crusader in the 13th century and was considered to be a hero. He believes in God until the reality of war and unanswered prayers changed him. When his commander died, Crowley stopped praying to God. Even then, he still hopes for God to do something and even touches his commander's rosary until he became a vampire.

He first encounters a tan dark-haired vampire during the Crusades. Although Ferid is also there, he is not spoken to until years later. Unknown to him, Crowley's existence had been watched out for by Ferid for approximately 150 years. Crowley was targeted to become a vampire because Ferid was waiting for someone with the Michaela trait.

Driven to hate Ferid, after methods used such as killing everyone who was important to him, Crowley was to remember his face before being force fed a vial of Saitō's blood where he was turned into a vampire.[2] When Crowley finally hunts Ferid down decades later, his human feelings have waned to the point where he does not recall why he wanted revenge on him. Consequently, instead of enacting vengeance, Crowley becomes Ferid's comrade.

When I was human, huh? Hnn... That was an awfully long time ago. You familiar with history? Okay then. This might surprise you, but I was a crusader. A knight fighting in a holy war for the sake of God, who's now fallen so far as to become a vampire. It's funny when you think about it, isn't it?

–His response to Yu when asked who he was when human. Chapter 53: "Holy Knight's Secret"

Later, Crowley says he joined Ferid Bathory's faction because he always makes things interesting. Coming to be situated in Japan and having kept up the pretence of being seen as a thirteenth progenitor vampire (when he was more akin to a seventh) Crowley would keep Ferid's long forming plan in mind. At some point he met Chess and Horn.

Crowley reading over Ferid's shoulder

Reading over Ferid's shoulder

In 2016, Crowley Eusford is in Sanguinem, and visits Ferid at a library. He asks Ferid about a kid named Sakuma and hears Ferid respond that he is a Buddhist. Asking what that is, where Crowley is unfamiliar with Buddhism, he repeated the conversation overheard between Ferid and Sakuma.

Hearing Ferid's mention of Christianity, Crowley remarks that he has forgotten Christianity, as God no longer watches over him. Expanding on that, Crowley wonders if God was watching over him then why did he become a vampire. After Ferid answers that Crowley's actions were to blame, he is shocked at this. Then asking what Ferid is reading, and learning it is the Bible, Crowley checks the cover and sees that the book is titled "History of Names". Questioning if the book is interesting, yet getting no response, Crowley then asks why Ferid called him down to Sanguinem.

Reflecting on the nightmare he has of his comrades being killed, Crowley has flashbacks from battles during the Crusades. He wakes up to the sounds of swords clashing.

Events of 2020

Shinjuku Arc

Crowley ouch ouch ouch

At Shinjuku, blocking Yoichi's Gekkouin fire

Crowley is outside the walls of the burning city of Shinjuku as a vampire invasion is underway. Having noticed the approaching truck, Crowley steps towards Shinoa squad who approach. Although they intentionally rammed their hummer into him, through his sheer vampire based strength, Crowley can easily stop it with one hand. With Yoichi firing arrows at him, Crowley activates his sword to easily block that Cursed Gear based attack. Slashing at Yoichi, his ranged assault is deflected by Shinoa and Mitsuba.

Moving to attack Shinoa

As Shinoa is warning her squad that Crowley is armed with a first-class weapon, with his rapid speed he quickly appears behind her before she can finish talking. Where Crowley would have had Kimizuki defended Shinoa, his sword arm is cut off first by Yu. In response, Crowley smiles, complements them, and asks who they are. His unreasonably chill response unnerves Yu, but Crowley is genuinely curious.

Finding his two female aides, Chess Belle and Horn Skuld have joined him, Crowley is informed that Seventh Progenitor Ferid Bathory has requested his presence on the front lines. Disappointed given who he was talking to, Crowley smiles at Yu. Then, Crowley moves behind him at supersonic speed, pats Yu on the shoulder, and promises to see him again. Deeming the squad lambs, Crowley then takes off along with Chess and Horn.[3]

I'll let you go this time. But next time... I'm going to enjoy sipping on your blood. See you later, my cute little lambs.

–To Shinoa's squad when he receives orders to join Ferid on the front lines at Shinjuku. "Vampire Attack"

Whatever route Crowley took, he finally makes it to the 5th Street intersection. While the squad he clashed with before made it before him, despite the fact he left first, Crowley may have had to go all the way around the human fortress at Shinjuku while they simply went straight through it. In any case, Crowley arrives as Ferid draws his sword meaning to kill the members of the Moon Demon Company in the area. Noticed, with Crowley in this part of the battlefield, the new plan is to turn the vampire extermination unit into vampire livestock. As the human forces retreat, Crowley joins the vampires in preventing that.

Pinning down Shinoa who screams, Crowley keeps his hand around her neck. When she calls for Yu to run, Crowley moves that hand to her mouth. Informing her that cattle do not talk, Crowley bites Shinoa on the left side of her neck. Unbeknownst to him, Crowley's action seems to have heavily factored in inducing Yu to undergo a transformation into a one-winged monster.

Returning to Ferid who is holding Guren, he asks for orders. In the vicinity of Major General Shinya Hīragi's Byakkomaru sniper fire at Ferid, he stands clear of the explosive fiery white tiger projectiles. With this other unexpected occurrence, Crowley finds the main force of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army from Shibuya has arrived to reinforce the humans. Questioning Ferid what should they do, hearing he is going to leave, Crowley's decision to die or not is in his own hands. With Ferid claiming that he did what he wished to do, Crowley wonders what that was, but does not learn the secret. With the battle for Shinjuku lost, Crowley retreats with the other vampires.[4]

Nagoya Arc

In the start of the Moon Demon Company attacking the vampire nobles in Nagoya, his name is mentioned as the operation is set to commence,[5] and Crowley is indeed in Nagoya city hall.

Along with Chess, and Horn, he waits in the Nagoya City Hall. Where the humans planned to kill Chess and Horn, in helping take down six squads of the Moon Demon Company, killing ten of them, Crowley keeps the remaining twenty as hostages. A fatally-injured soldier named Eita Kusunoki is released to deliver the news to Lieutenant Colonel Guren Ichinose. After this, although Guren initially planned on avoiding Crowley, his name to his hit list. Crowley looks forward to their arrival.[6]

Once those humans get here, I hope things will get more interesting.

–To Chess and Horn, awaiting humans to come rescue hostages at Nagoya city hall. Chapter 28: "Livestock Revolt"

Waiting with Chess and Horn, he considers the human's demon weapons. Crowley wonders which high-ranking vampire has been traitorously aiding the humans. Intentionally cutting his finger while examining a demon blade, Crowley allows Horn to lick his wound.

Although|Yoichi fires Gekkouin at Crowley, he is able to catch the manifested projectile with his hands. Utterly unharmed, Crowley then flings it aside. Where there are three squads prepared, Guren Squad, with Shinoa squad, and Narumi Squad, along with Chess and Horn the response Crowley has is to wait for them.

When Horn speculates that the humans may be preparing an attack strong enough to wipe out all of them, Crowley agrees but considers that the humans may have an entirely different objective. Creating an aim of his own, Crowley decides to capture one of the humans as a souvenir for Ferid. Both Chess and Horn mention they do not like Lord Ferid because he is devious and hard to predict, even for them. In response Crowley counters that there is never a dull moment with Ferid. Directing Chess and Horn to ignore the grunts, Crowley states to grab one or two of their more knowledgeable officers.

Attacked by Guren and Shinya, he easily negates their attacks at close-range. Seizing, then swinging Guren into Shinya, the pair are thrown straight through the wall behind him. Reinforced by Chess, and Horn, they step toward them.[7]

Effortlessly parrying each of Guren and Shinya's attacks while only using one hand to hold his sword, Crowley is at ease, yet finds they have managed to escape through a hole blasted in the wall after they knock up enough dust.

Ha ha! You were the ones who attacked first, and now you don't want me to follow? You humans are always so selfish.

–Speaking to Guren and Shinya when he is engaged at Nagoya city hall. Chapter 32: "Crowley in Control"

His hand reaches through the wall and grabs Shinya by the chest, but Crowley is driven back by Guren. Breaking through the wall as Guren and Shinya run down the hall, Crowley states that he hates running. Attacking them, Crowley cuts through Guren's left shoulder before remembering that he does not want to kill these two. When Guren orders Shinya to abandon him and continue the mission, Crowley allows it. Before Shinya can flee, the ground beneath Crowley and Guren breaks apart with Yu jumping through the floor.[8]

In response to the surprise attack from Yu breaking upwards from the floor below, Crowley is not remotely surprised, not caught off guard at all, and after blocking the strike, he swings to decapitate. His sword parried by Shihō Kimizuki, he then finds Tenjiryū decoys around him as a result of Mitsuba Sangū joining the fray. After Yu deploys the Asura Kannon power, Crowley is defended by Chess and Horn immediately stepping in to deflect the levitating swords away from him.

When Guren commands Shinoa Squad to leave, Crowley recognizes Yu as the one who went berserk in Shinjuku. Consequently, he comments that this battle has taken an unexpected turn. Questioned why Chess whether they can dispose of them, Crowley says no and states that this may be something for Ferid to deal with.

After Guren orders Goshi to take action, Crowley finds Guren's squad breaking in through the windows. Directives are given by Guren for them to save Shinya and escape which Crowley remains indifferent to. It is when illusions of flames and magma powerful enough to affect a nobles brain are made by Goshi does Crowley once again wonder who the humans acquired such power from.

Reacting to the illusion, Crowley deals with the situation by swinging his sword and breaking the wall out. With it dissipated where no one is around, Crowley comments that Guren has been abandoned. He orders Chess and Horn to restrain Guren and take him with them.[9]

Upon Yu's return to renew the attempt to save Guren, he defends himself on time. Parrying the attack, Crowley wonders to himself whether Yu is really human. Activating his sword when Yu intends to assail him with Asura Kannon, then attacking in turn, Crowley is impressed that Yu can dodge the strike. Going for another attack, seeing that Yū is able to block, Crowley commends him as a tough one. Accordingly, Crowley thinks that he might just have to use both hands while wielding his sword.

Halting his offensive when Guren jumps between them, Crowley is mentioned to be on a whole other level and Yu cannot possibly hope to defeat him. While Yu is shocked, and despondently asks himself why he still is not strong enough, Crowley comments on the words. Having the answer, Crowley informs Yu that it is simple, he is just livestock and that the vampires will never see them as a threat. Leaving Yu infuriated by the words it is much to Crowley's amusement.

Attacked once again, Crowley remarks that Yu is getting faster. In Guren warning of a demon taking over, and then Yu having a demonic horn appear, Crowley is delighted at the sight. Declaring he knew that getting involved with Ferid would turn out interesting, Crowley's curiosity and interest grows. Animated, Crowley even asserts he might just drink him dry next time he gets the chance.

Whoa! I knew it! Getting involved with Ferid's plans always means something interesting will happen. You're so lively and full of energy that I want your blood now. Sorry, Ferid... Next time he gets close, I might just drink him dry.

–Having been acting in accordance with Ferid's direction, Crowley reacts after Yu becomes possessed. Chapter 34: "Asura's Power"

At this point Crowley notes Kimizuki step in who uses Kiseki-o's Devil's Coffin ability to grab Yu and get out of there. Although Crowley expresses interest in the technique, he makes no sign of pursuing.[10]

Having kept Guren as a prisoner, Crowley discusses that five nobles were killed. Additionally all of the noble's whereabouts were known to their human attackers. Approached by Ferid, since there is "too much fun" going on, Crowley determines that Ferid must be behind it somehow. In accusing Ferid of leaking information to the humans, Crowley does not buy his denial of this. The thing that gets Crowley is that Ferid sold out his location to the humans as well. Wondering if Ferid could explain that, Crowley says he thought he was part of Ferid's faction.

After Ferid points out that Crowley was entertained, he admits that. Hearing that Ferid having a member of his own faction attacked makes him less likely to be suspected, Crowley gets confirmation that he provided vampire noble information to humans. However, Crowley also learns from Ferid that someone even more twisted than he pulled the strings this time. The finger is pointed to Crowley's captive, Guren Ichinose, who lies beaten on the ground.

Affirming that Guren does not look like it, Crowley is informed that Guren is a Namanari, a human one step short of becoming a full demon. Learning that there are two beings in Guren's body, who share their time in control, half is the idealist who wants to save his friends and followers, and the other half is possessed by the vengeful spirit of Guren's dead lover, described as a perfectionist who reduced herself to a demon in order to get what she wants.[11]

When Krul Tepes orders the vampires to set out for Nagoya Airport, a bit further away, Crowley asks Ferid about what is really about to start. Mentioned that it is a grand party, Crowley is told to stay close behind Ferid at all times or else he will die.[12]

Later at the battle at Nagoya Airport, he indeed keeps his distance from the Fifth Trumpet who has summoned the demon Abaddon to the world. After Yu returns from losing control of his Seraph, and the Japanese Imperial Demon Army soldiers are set to engage those of the vampires who have arrived, Crowley sneaks up behind Krul to attack the Queen. His arm is sliced off by Krul and Crowley's movements are described by her as too slow. Failing to strike Krul was mitigated in that Crowley succeeded at being a distraction. In drawing her attention, Crowley could allow for Ferid to deliver a second sneak attack on Krul.

Finding that Ferid drained Krul's blood until she fell unconscious, Crowley played a significant part in overthrowing the queen of Japan. Following the event, Crowley is curious about what Ferid's plans are as he too was interested in what he was planning. Learning that Ferid was only "wasting time", Crowley proceeds to question him whether his motives were acceptable. Pointing out that it would be punishable for him touching the Queen, he is assured by his faction leader that the higher powers (Progenitors) would soon come to punish Krul for her wrongdoings and betrayal. Additionally, Crowley listens as Ferid details that due to the experimentations carried out by humans that vampires were no longer safe. At Ferid's side as he takes control over the vampires, there is the commands to eradicate the humans' research facilities.[13]

Post-Nagoya Arc

Three months after the battle, Crowley is present when Ferid calls for an urgent meeting for the Progenitor Council. Speaking up, along with Horn and Chess, he makes small, irrelevant comments in between as Sanguinem comes under heavy attack. They are scolded for their foolish behavior by Second Progenitor Urd Geales, when they do so. Later as Ferid reveals Krul's betrayal to the progenitor councils, Crowley comments that they were in trouble. Shortly afterwards, the humans under the command of Guren, and Kureto, with Mirai Kimizuki as a seraph, collectively attack Sanguinem and the palace is invaded.[14]

Later on, Crowley is in the passenger's seat of a western car driven by Ferid.[15] Asking where they are headed, Crowley hears from Ferid that they are going to see his friends. After some banter, Crowley learns they are actually going to a little fishing village to meet Yu and Mika and to "become their new best friends."

Ferid and Crowley

Heading to the fishing village where Shinoa squad are

Reaching the fishing village where the Shinoa squad, now with Mika and Makoto Narumi, had been hiding. Aware of and noting that Ferid already killed Yu and Mika's entire family for fun, Crowley says that is unlikely they would be befriended. Cheerfully advised to not be confined by common sense, Crowley listens to the idea of "former enemies coming together all through the power of friendship" and how it is so exciting. It is mentioned how Ferid killed all of Crowley's friends once, yet now they are now "buddy-buddy."

Updating Ferid that the group have spotted them and are running, Crowley is ordered to run after them since he is busy driving. When Crowley, who mentioned how much he hates running, then offers to drive instead, he is commanded to get going. Told he needs to stop them, Crowley can cut off a leg or two, but he is not to kill them. Bringing up Ferid's previous comments about becoming buddy-buddy with Yu and Mika he then obliges with the direction so jumps out of the car to pursue them.

Crowley fight yu and kimizuki

Fighting the squad to hinder their escape

Whew! Finally caught up. Okay. Until Ferid shows up, let's have some fun.

–Landing in front of Shinoa squad and blocking their escape. Chapter 44: "A Drive Along Death's Shoreline"

Landing in front of their group, Crowley quickly races between them to strike Mitsuba's shoulder with his sword and send her flying.[16] Throwing her to the ground, Crowley is pleased and feels fighting will make waiting for Ferid less boring. Seeing Mitsuba latch onto his leg, Crowley then finds Yoichi has refused her order to leave so is shot at. Comfortably deflecting his ranged shots, Crowley is nearby to Kimizuki who has manifested Kiseki-o who begins his count of nine.

Recalling seeing the Devil's Coffin technique before, Crowley considers pulling back so asks if Mitsuba would release his leg. When she refuses, Crowley announces then he will just cut off her arms. His sword blocked by Shinoa's scythe,[17] Crowley then hears from Yu that he is surrendering. In response, Crowley says he is actually not after anything in particular himself.

With Ferid arriving, Crowley serves as the example dangerous vampire that he is here to rescue Yu and Mika from. When Ferid states he will save them if they take a ride with him, Crowley says they already finished that part and surrendered. After Ferid presents Akane's head in a jar to them, Crowley tells the humans he pities them for having to put up with Ferid's exhausting antics. As Yu struggles against his demon after seeing Akane's head, Crowley is addressed by Kimizuki to raise a temporary truce, which he does not mind.[18]

Fixing the bus to take the squad to an unknown location

Sometime later, Crowley works on fixing a bus engine and comments he has learned a lot about fixing cars because Ferid keeps making him repair them. Where the squad have little option but to board the bus, Crowley drives them.[19]

The group take a brief rest stop, while Crowley and Ferid joke about them taking a long bathroom break. Asking where they are really going, Crowley hears Ferid confess to lying about taking them to the place of the Seraph of the End experiment. Instead, Crowley learns Ferid is actually taking them to Osaka Bay in order to rendezvous with Guren.[20]

Osaka Arc

Back on the bus, Crowley shares they have nearly reached Osaka Bay and requests more information. Where Ferid only says they will become extremely busy and refuses to divulge anymore information, this is in order to spare Crowley from being tortured. Addressed as Ferid's "precious son," Crowley promptly rejects the notion.

Although Crowley asks about Saitō, their sire, he receives only silence. Wondering if this is all to get back at Saitō, and mentioning he might get revenge on Ferid instead should nothing be said, Crowley is told to make it spectacular if he must.

So that means we're siblings. Yet I've never met our father, and I don't know what my brother is really up to. Are you doing all this just to get back at him? If you don't tell me, I'll decide it's you I want my revenge on instead of him.

–Unsure of matters, Crowley intends to get answers from Ferid about Saitō. Chapter 49: "Progenitor's Memory"

Ferid questioning Crowley's action

Having slammed the breaks on for Ferid to crash out the window

As Ferid appears to answer Mika's question of where they are going, Crowley slams on the breaks. This action purposely sends Ferid flying through the windshield, and unintentionally has Yu hit his head. After recovering from the crash, Crowley is asked by Ferid why he stomped on the breaks, and responds by asking if that was "spectacular" enough for him. Successful, Crowley finds Ferid show surprise before laughing where indeed he did not see that one coming.[21]

At Osaka Bay a huge host of foreign vampires have arrived in Japan, including Third Progenitor Lest Karr, and Second Progenitor Urd Geales. After Lest Karr shoves his hand into Ferid to remove his heart, Crowley tells Yu to not move or else he will get killed multiple times. He does not react when asked by Ferid whether he tried his hardest under an incompetent queen. Seeing Ferid interact with Saitō, he questions if it is their father. Feeling that trying to kill Saitō would be too hard, Crowley is advised by Ferid to practice on Fifth Progenitors. Making their way up to Urd will make them strong enough to kill Saitō, yet Crowley does not reply to Ferid's words.[22]

Returning to where the humans are, Crowley watches Ferid get exposure torture, who with Krul has been sentenced to that by Urd. Telling Yu that they cannot rescue Ferid and Krul immediately and must wait, Crowley is amused by Ferid's screams. Questioning if Yu really wants to save them, Crowley mentions that exposure torture must be painful because both of them are screaming.

Since Yu decides he does want to rescue Ferid and Krul so asks if there is a way to do so, Crowley answers there is. In order to do so they must tame the seraph of the end within Yu and to do that they have to go to Ferid's mansion.[23]

Easily defeating 10th progenitor Fuola

Leading Shinoa Squad to Ferid's fifth mansion, Crowley goes ahead of them to unlock the front door. Later, Tenth Progenitor Fuola Honte fights Shinoa Squad and claims a monster is chasing him. Crowley then appears and steps out of the mansion, approaching Fuola. Recognized by Fuola, it is mentioned that a thirteenth progenitor like Crowley should be unable to touch a tenth. Crowley attacks him, to behead and cleave his torso in half before Fuola can even defend himself.

When Fuola's head claims that Ferid will not forgive Crowley’s treachery, he replies that Ferid is the one who ordered him to do this. Crowley turns Fuola into ash. Smiling and looking back at the teenagers, Crowley says the battle formation takes him back to when he was human. On their battle formation, Crowley challenges them to see if they can defeat him.

They fight, and the squad lose easily against Crowley. After Yu observes that he is way stronger than before, Crowley shares he held back at that time. When Narumi asks how a thirteenth progenitor could defeat a tenth progenitor, Crowley reveals his strength is actually closer to a seventh progenitor. Additionally, he has been hiding his strength for the past eight hundred years or so.

When Mika gets Crowley to reveal that was all due to Ferid’s scheming, and reiterates that he cannot be trusted, Crowley agrees that dealing with Ferid is a pain in the ass. He suggests they forget about rescuing them, yet hears Yu state they already decided to rescue him. Having things he needs Ferid to tell him, Yu also says he owes the queen for saving his family thus that decides Crowley's next course of action. Since they have decided, Crowley tells them they must get stronger quickly as they had difficulty fighting a tenth, and must face a fifth progenitor in order to rescue Ferid and Krul.[24]

At Ferid's mansion, unconcerned

Interrogated by Yu, who is in awe that Crowley used to be human, the two of them walk into the mansion while the others remain outside. Inside, Crowley finds an envelope where Ferid has provided his next instructions in the form of a riddle. Crowley sighs and tries to work it out. In response to Yu taking the opportunity to attempt to strike Crowley from behind, he blocks it with ease and knocks Yu's sword into the ceiling. He criticizes Yu's lack of technique. After Yu attempts again, Crowley holds his sword back with ease and scolds him for having so much wasted movement.

Asked by Yu about his past, Crowley shares that he was a crusader fighting in a holy war. With him nodding along, Crowley says that Yu does not know history after all. In response to Yu saying it is not right for a former human to kill humans, Crowley points out that nothing kills more humans than humans. Crowley says he killed far more humans when he was human himself compared to after he became a vampire.

Handing Yu the riddle, and told the answer is a candle, Crowley praises him for being smart. He finds an envelope under a three-pronged candelabra. The rest of the team arrives, and the matter of food is raised so Crowley directs them to the kitchen.

Where Ferid's note says that the remains of Yu and the others' family members are kept in the cellar, Crowley reads the warning to restrain Yu if he goes berserk and to protect his newfound friends. Wondering about these "friends", Crowley glances at the humans with a troubled expression. Asked by Yu what is wrong, Crowley answer it is kinda tough to be given friends for the first time in eight hundred years. Telling Yu to go eat before they go into the cellar, on what is in there, Crowley says he will inform them after they eat.[25]

As the others explore Ferid's mansion, Crowley sips on some blood. He is asked by Mika how much time he has left before his emotions fade entirely.[26] While the group is eating, Crowley goes to check out the basement on his own. He finds another letter addressed to him. The letter warns him that Ferid laid a trap that will be activated if Crowley tries entering the basement without having a human with him. Despite the initial warning, Crowley's curiosity makes him open the basement door. A loud 'clunk' is heard and his reaction is heard across the mansion.

A victim of a petty trick

Re-entering the room dusty and annoyed, Crowley is asked if he is okay then details that he was the victim of a petty trick. After that, Crowley explains what they can expect to find in the basement, he does this to prevent Yu from going berserk out of shock. Where Yu still wants to go with everyone, Crowley settles the unease of the group by saying he will chop of Yu's limbs if he loses control.

Oh? So this time, you'll destroy the whole world for your ego? What amazing greed. You sound just like a demon.

–To Yu who has notions of human resurrection. Chapter 55: "Coffins of Obsession"

Once everyone is in the basement, Crowley pauses to stare intently at a person inside one of the preserving tanks. With Shinoa noticing, Crowley is asked if it is someone he knows. Answering a negative at first, Crowley then admits he sort of does and speaks that Ferid is very twisted. After Shinoa questions him if he wants to bring them back to life, Crowley answers that he is a vampire and thus does not have that desire. Crowley also mentions that help will arrive soon, some of her old friends.[27] Hearing the sounds of a weapon being fired, Crowley assumes it is their contact.[28]

With Guren now present, Crowley stands nearby mostly in silence. Noticing Shinoa's unease, Crowley asks her what is wrong. When Mika attacks Guren due to the threat he poses, Crowley wonders to himself how much longer he will hold that passion.[29]

Guren's squad have arrived at Ferid's mansion, and Crowley finds Shinya who he is amicable to now.[30] Crowley is present as Yuu learns how to control his Seraph. He provides information at times. A flashback to the plan against Ky Luc being arranged shows Crowley pointing out that there is no chance of their group defeating Ky Luc without anyone taking a hit. He accureately foreshadowed the fifth progenitor's cold logic and cunning nature, meaning that he will see through their plan.

When the group attacks Ky Luc in the attempt to remove the guard monitoring Ferid and Krul, he is in the constant lineup of attacks. He helps out Norito Goshi by attacking Ky Luc, but is decapitated in the process.[31]

His head reattached and healing, Crowley throws a sword to Ferid, who has been cut in half and escaped the flame torture. With Ky Luc having fled the battle, taking Krul with him, Crowley helped in the effort to free Ferid. When Ferid gets decapitated by Shinoa shortly after being healed, Crowley throws his head back to him. Questioning Ferid about the torture, Crowley is asked in turn if he was worried about him. Pondering to himself that maybe he was, Crowley states Ferid is the only one for him to worry about. The two joke around a bit more, speaking of their jealousy of humans for being alive, they look at Yu's group with smiles.

Pointing out that they will definitely be branded traitors now, Crowley asks Ferid what is next on the agenda. As Ferid responds vaguely, Crowley questions him who they are going to fight, to hear they will be fighting a god.[32]

Shibuya Arc

Listening to Guren and Kureto talking, Crowley asks Ferid beside him whether the Saitō they mentioned is Rigr Stafford. Then, Crowley questions Ferid where they are going when he leaves for them both to check in on the First.[33] Following Ferid into the examination room where Shinoa was moved to, Crowley asks if Ferid really does know how to stop her transformation into a vampire, and again wonders how. Crowley looks on in shock upon discovering that Ferid's simple solution is to draw his sword and kill the person before the transformation is complete.[34]

Upon Ferid’s signal, Crowley grabs his head and nonchalantly flings Ferid away from Shikama Dōji who manifested to defend Shinoa from his assault. Crowley fights against an onslaught of attacks, noting it is hard. Turning to clarify if they should run away, with Ferid missing his legs, at this point Crowley promptly has his head cut off and his body falls to its knees.[35] Managing to stand, Crowley picks up and reattaches his head as he listens to Ferid questioning the First’s motives.[36]

With the First possessing Shinoa's body leaving to investigate a surprise attack from the Hyakuya Sect on Shibuya, Crowley arrives on the walls. Gaining one of the attacker's notice, Crowley harmlessly strikes Basteya Irclu's sword to get their hostile attention off of Shinya, and instead interact amicably with himself. Crowley is recognized by Basteya as he tells them he thought they were dead. Questioning why they are here, Crowley deems it is a good question when Basteya asks the same of him.[37]

After Ferid's failed ambush on the sixth progenitor, Crowley is mentioned by Basteya as one of Ferid's allies.[38] When discussions fail, Crowley uses his sword to deflect heavy fire from the invading Hyakuya Sect on the battlements, before suggesting to Ferid that he stop standing there daydreaming and maybe protect himself. Crowley is not too keen that he has to protect Ferid since he is thinking right now.[39]

As a result of a member of the Hyakuya Sect using Jigenso to redirect Shinya's Byakkomaru projectile, Crowley turns to the tiger missile attack appearing behind him for it to blow up directly in his face. When Mito calls out that the Hyakuya soldiers have scaled the walls, Crowley sweeps them away with a swing of his sword.[40] Calling to Ferid that he just got a scratch, Crowley questions whether he has collected his thoughts yet, but is uncertain of what the "Mr. Handy-weapon man" Ferid refers to is.[41]

Watching the fight between the First and Saitō that is occurring above, Crowley thinks that Ferid has been pretty occupied with looking up at dad. He questions what type of complex Ferid really has, and replies that his lolita complex answer is not funny. Questioning what do they do about this situation, Crowley asks inquisitively who their ally is that Ferid mentions, and again who "Mr. Namanari" boy is.[42]

Chapter 84 - Page 3 - Panel 2

Wondering what the sinful key is for

Standing amongst the stabbed and unconscious Hyakuya Sect members who have sacrificed their capabilities to channel power into Saito in his fight against the First, he notices and comments on Ferid appearing in a good mood. Remarking further that if one were to look through the whole city and pick the person in the best mood in these crummy circumstances, Crowley states it would definitely be Ferid. Asking what Ferid is nervous about, Crowley thinks it was stupid to ask a serious question considering his response.[43] Wondering what the knife Ferid is balancing on his finger is used for, Crowley remembers it as the one he took out the child who had been turned into a seraph. Hearing that Rigr wants the instrument, Crowley questions Ferid what he wants it for.[44]

Post-Shibuya Arc

Walking calmly as the Hyakuya Sect forces retreat having completed their mission, Crowley confirms that he is thirsty having done a lot of exercise today, before he sees Ferid take ahold of a Hyakuya Sect operative.[45] Asked whether he wants the blood of the Imperial Demon Army soldier who Ferid just rescued, Crowley replies did Ferid not just say they were allies. Understanding Ferid saying that the blood of allies just betrayed is the tastiest kind, Crowley mentions how Ferid guzzled his down back in the day. Told to turn back into a human for Ferid to try it again, Crowley states to not ask for the impossible. He advises against Ferid trying his blood anyway, or Crowley might drink Ferid's blood.[46]

Gulping when Ferid mentions to actually drink his blood to kill him, Crowley breaks the silence with requesting he stop the jokes now and to do what they are here for. Having noticed the smell of the same blood in their veins, Crowley darkly observes that it is father's blood.[47] Accompanying Ferid down an alley where the drag marks of many chains lead, Crowley comes across the upper torso of Saitō, with his left arm missing, and the chains coming out from his body. With Ferid asking what he thinks the point is of killing Saitō, and that the father's duty is to teach the sons what the point of living is, Crowley raises that Ferid force fed him a vial of father's blood. Technically Ferid made him a vampire, and Crowley says does it not mean that Ferid is supposed to teach him, rather than Saitō. He does not remember Ferid being the picture of familial responsibility as he claims.[48]

It is recalled how those important to him were killed when Crowley was human in the past, and yet despite that nothing changed. Crowley listens to Ferid's views on living, before commenting on how fast it was when Saitō leaves a faint scrape across Ferid's cheek using one of his chains.[49] Indifferent after the explosion in the alley, once the dust has settled, Crowley is in disbelief at Ferid revealing that was a prince as he continues to speak with Saitō.[50] He shares Ferid's alarmed view in response to a voice offering help being heard, and shouts to Ferid that there is trouble.

Chapter 91 - Page 33 - Crowley

Catching Ferid's sinful key holding arm

Catching Ferid's chain clad arm as it is sliced off, Crowley holds the dismembered limb that is still gripping the sinful key. Not having a good feeling about this, Crowley's fears are grounded since Urd Geales, in addition to Lest Karr, and Ky Luc have joined them.[51] Once Saitō accepts Urd's offer of help, Crowley uses his sword to defend against the attacking second progenitor.[52] Shouting to Ferid as Urd raises his sword, Crowley blocks and bears the brunt of the strike.[53]

Not doubtful that Urd could cut through his sword if he wanted, Crowley presses Ferid on what they do now. Shocked that Ferid rejected the chance to surrender, Crowley says to wait as Urd powers his sword. With Ferid cut in half, Crowley seizes his arm that is holding the sinful key then leaps upwards. Taking Ferid's upper torso as well, Crowley is surprised that Ferid's UV-blocking rings are on the other half of his body below. Taking ahold if him again, Crowley speaks they have to run. Questioning whether Ferid is trying to die today, Crowley is requested to throw him down twenty-three degrees diagonally to the left of here.[54]

In the air, Crowley complies with the direction to throw Ferid at a specific angle after hearing they might win if they are lucky.[55] Crowley is stood in the alleyway behind Urd and receives the sinful key thrown to him by Ferid who had used Jigenso's portal to join them.[56] Activating the sinful key, Crowley agrees they definitely need to end it here.[57]

Sinful key. Engage.

–Having caught the sinful key thrown to him by Ferid, Crowley verbally activates the device and targets vampire progenitors Urd Geales, Lest Kar and Ky Luc. "Chapter 92" "Black Demon Scenario", page 19

The sinful key has a pressure based effect on the vampire progenitors as it activates. Pained by a loud window shattering scream, Crowley wonders whose is it.[58] In contrast to Ferid's merriment, Crowley says he is not having much fun at all. At his direction, Crowley takes Ferid and escapes the scene.[59]

Running through a ruined cityscape with Ferid, he was trying really hard not to ask, but Crowley really has to, namely what all the "tum tum" stuff being sang is. Hearing Ferid explain that it is the sound of him running, Crowley questions what the point of doing that is. With it being so everyone can know he is running, Crowley wonders who the everyone is. Gathering that the sound effects are for his benefit, Crowley states he really does not need Ferid to do that, before seeing him leap away.[60]

Joining Ferid, he also sensed that the First was captured. Where Ferid guesses they are no longer dancing on the First's palm, but on Saito's, he cannot say. Crowley has not heard what parts are part of whose plans, before adding for all he knows they could be Ferid's. Questioning if Ferid is really going to be call him a weirdo as he is still following him, Crowley adds it is not like he has anything else to do. Then asking what Ferid thinks, Crowley wonders is it still the First's turn, or if it is their father's.[61]

I can't say. I haven't heard what parts are part of whose plans. For all I know, it could be yours.

–Unsure whether they are involved in the First's or Saito's plan, Crowley considers it could be Ferid's. Chapter 109: "Moving Pieces", page 29

On whose turn it is, Crowley hears it may be Ferid's and Guren's.[62] While he was not seen, evidently Crowley would have been in the truck that Ferid was driving when they joined Guren, with Mahiru, also Krul, and Shinoa squad too. Where they all gather having made it out of Shibuya that came under attack by the Hyakuya Sect, with the First there, Crowley would not comment on how Mika has become a demon.[63]

Akihabara Arc

The first notion that Crowley was present comes from his shoulder that can be seen beside Ferid as they travel in the front of the truck together.[64] With the vehicle having stopped on account of Yu and Guren fighting over the details concerning the orphans', murders, Crowley silently observes.[65]

After Ferid's head has been sliced off by Krul for suggesting they are family, Crowley jokes he got killed alright. Asked to pick him up, Crowley carries Ferid's head as he speaks how it is time for the squad to get on the road.[66] Seated beside Ferid as he drives, Crowley looks at him in response to his statement that having lots of friends makes every day a boisterous one.[67] Attentive, Crowley listens as Shinoa mentions how the catastrophe resulted in everybody over the age of fourteen dying.[68]

Having arrived at Akihabara which was mentioned as a place that no one could touch them, Crowley stands near Ferid, facing him while he observes an idol like poster on the side of a building.[69] All cramped together in the elevator heading down, Crowley faces Guren, and is nearby to Yoichi.[70] Although Crowley does not comment on it, a matter that concerns him is that a resurrection spell can raise all of humanity, or restore Mika alone, where the price is seven sinful keys and the lives of every last vampire.

Where Yu has become a demon as he means to fight for a goal that does apparently not involve human resurrection, Crowley as part of the vampires present who are called upon to help by Guren. It is mentioned that if Yu escapes then their plan is totally screwed, yet it is seemingly one Corwley is not involved with. When Ferid quips that he heard him, Crowley speaks that actually he has not heard anything about this plan of their's yet.[71]

Nevertheless, Crowley acts in accordance with a plan he is not aware of, and matches the sense of Guren's urgency by lunging towards Yu who cannot escape fast enough. Registering that Guren is also honing in, Crowley has time to tell him that he will stop Yu.[72]

I'll stop him.

–Acting to prevent Yu escaping Akihabara, and participating in a plan he is unaware of. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 34

Swinging his sword near Yu, but sparing possible contact with Guren, he finds the former has avoided the strikes. With Yu having stabbed into the ground to swing himself out the way, Crowley voices it is not bad.[73] After Krul has thrown Yu into the floor, Crowley stands beside Guren, with Yoichi at his back, and is the one closest to Yu who now has two demon horns.[74] As Yu's squad attempt to return him to his senses, Crowley stands by observing.[75]

As with the other vampires, Crowley is not present when Yu and Mika are reported to have been sighted in Naka-Itabashi. Evidently the group had later split up to search for Yu after he evaded capture to escape with Mika. Rather than search for Yu however, Crowley has been brought with Ferid atop a building. Where Ferid is silent, Crowley asks what is he watching this time, before hearing he is watching the line shake out.

Unsure what he means by the line, Crowley also asks for what. Crowley does not comment on Ferid's response that it is the line queuing for the end of the world, neither on Shinoa Squad who are situated below who Ferid is monitoring.[76]

Suddenly asked how many years it has been since they met, Crowley considers what Ferid asked. Remarking how this is sudden, Crowley states that it is a good question. Answering that he does not remember, Crowley feels it has been a while though, a really long while. After Ferid curtly asks whether he is dumb, Crowley says just so he knows he is the one who turned him into a vampire.[77]

When Ferid questions whether he did, Crowley confirms yes. After Ferid claims he begged to become a vampire to live forever, Crowley rectifies he did not. Questioned why then did he become one, it is something Crowley also wants to know. Crowley asks did Ferid not just pick him at random and force the blood on him.

After Ferid claims he does not remember, Crowley deems him a liar. Perplexed at the line of conversation, Crowley asks what the hell. They have been together for something like a thousand years by now, yet Crowley notes that Ferid still will not tell him anything. Crowley comments how that is something else.

Ugh, seriously? What the hell?! We've been together for something like a thousand years by now... ...And you still won't tell me anything. That's something else.

–Commenting on Ferid not divulging why he force-fed him blood to become a vampire even after all their time together. Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" Page 26

As Ferid details how they have gone though a lot, Crowley gives some thought to this. Addressing how Ferid gets the feeling, but then says he does not remember, in turn Crowley is asked whether he remembers. Contemplating it, Crowley speaks how he remembers some parts but not others. Asked if they are good memories, Crowley again ponders this, before wondering whether Ferid truly does not remember.[78]

Listening while Ferid states that he cannot forget a thing, Crowley states it is the first time he has heard that, but then checks if that is another lie. When Ferid states that is a good question, there is a moment of silence between them.[79]

Awaiting Ferid to speak, Crowley is at once asked about his two servants, Ches and Horn. A question out of nowhere, Crowley listens as Ferid raises whatever happened to them, and whether he remembers. Considering this, Crowley appears to visualize Chess and Horn in his mind. Understanding why Ferid has suddenly mentioned them, Crowley asks did he kill them.

In response to Ferid's lack of response, Crowley has also come to the conclusion that now Ferid means to kill him as well.

Did you kill them? Ah. Now it's finally time to kill me?

–Registering why Ferid brought up Chess and Horn, then realizing even quicker what mentioning this topic means for himself. Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" Page 30

Where he again is silent, Crowley speaks how if this really is the end then Ferid really would not have ever explained a thing to him. Hearing Ferid then state that the time they spent together was entertaining, Crowley regards him before laughing at ease slightly. Asking what the heck, Crowley checks if that is all Ferid is going to say.[80]

Told upfront that he can resist if he wants, but Ferid is stronger, Crowley only says his name in response. Finding that Ferid is awaiting what he has got to say, Crowley shares how for their long journey together, that it was not that bad.[81]

Ferid. Our long, long journey together... It wasn't half bad.

–Unable to do little else given that Ferid intends to murder him. Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" Page 32

These would be Crowley's final words and while content to speak them, they were likely spoken on account that indeed Crowley had no recourse in this situation placed upon him. Crowley would be murdered when his upper torso was dismembered by Ferid and seemingly consumed.[82]

His lower torso falls off the edge of the building until it is skewered by a chain from Ferid's hand. This fall prevented, it is mentioned how Crowley is the 440th (which may be a reference to Ferid's Brother). His name is spoken by Ferid who mentions it is time for them to jump to the front of the line at the end of the world.[83]

Powers and Abilities

Natural abilities

Crowley stopping the car

Endurance against a speeding truck

As a vampire, Crowley is by nature physically much stronger, faster, and more durable than a human. Some characters described him as being a monster in terms of power. Although misdirection, being a Thirteenth Progenitor would indicate that Crowley is very strong even among vampires, and more powerful than lower ranking vampires. This becomes more the case where Crowley's true power was in fact comparable to a seventh progenitor, which gave Crowley the decisive edge against those who would not know this, namely many Moon Demon Company soldiers, and Fuola Honte. That Crowley is slow compared to a Fifth, and Third progenitor, does not stop him being a menace to vampires ranked lower than him, and certainly not to virtually every human he would come into contact with. As a noble, Crowley also has permission and the ability to turn someone into a vampire if he so chooses, which involves transferring his own blood to create a new being.

Oh, that? The 'thirteenth progenitor' thing is all just a front. In reality, my strength is a lot greater than that. I'm closer to seventh progenitor.

–News for Shinoa Squad after easily overcoming a tenth progenitor. Chapter 52: "Suspicious Mansion"

His sheer strength is displayed many times. With a truck plowed into him, Crowley could stop it with one hand, and is unaffected by the energy behind the impact. During the battle at Nagoya, Crowley is even capable of catching the manifestation of Yoichi's Gekkouin directed after him - unharmed. Where Cursed Gear was made to give humans a chance against vampires, Crowley's strength allows him to seize and hold a black demon's projectile and regard the would be destructive power with a mild interest. His fortitude was of benefit when Crowley endured the Byakkomaru ranged fire sent his way at Shibuya.

Crowley's turn

Skill used in his sword fighting, and able to defend against the First for a time

Honing sword capabilities as a crusader, skill has very much supplemented Crowley's natural strength. Retaining his combat abilities, and improving them as a vampire, Crowley is adept with a sword. At ease parrying strikes, Crowley can engage multiple challengers. Rarely caught off guard, Crowley was calmly reading when simultaneously blocking a surprise attack from Yu from behind. Casting away Hyakuya agents with a stroke of his sword, Crowley also had the expertise to block a flurry of Shikama Doji's scythe strikes.

You're a tough one. Well then... I just might have to use both hands.

–Adapting his strength in the renewed fight against Yu who is becoming increasingly demonic. Chapter 34: "Asura's Power"

Being a vampire, Crowley can physically regenerate from non-curse wounds at a very fast pace. A particularly strong vampire, Crowley can also recover from cursed weapons as well. Severed limbs can be re-attached where they join back together. Should his head be cut off, Crowley can pick that up to re-attach it.

Supernaturally fast speed can be employed to traverse distances, and move around enemies. His superhuman movements were demonstrated to Yu outside Shinjuku by getting behind him faster than the he could have possibly followed, and tapping him as well. Able to leap significant distances, Crowley can bound across buildings, and cliffs to land in front of others. Under attack, Crowley can lunge into the air, and is fast enough to return to the ground to be ready for a next move.

In both the light novel and the manga, Crowley is shown to be a patient teacher. This is apparently because he used to train soldiers back when he was still a human. He mentions to Yu how technique plays a role in fighting. Able to pick up on details, Crowley is effective at warning others of them. Displaying the effects of cursed gear weapons to Chess and Horn, he visually showed the dangers of such weapons to them. Crowley also spoke how Ky Luc would likely be able to guess their plan to provide that vital perspective. Shown to be quite adept at fixing vehicles, Crowley states that he was forced to learn it because Ferid is not capable of fixing vehicles himself.

I learned because you keep making me repair your classic cars.

–Speaking to Ferid while repairing a bus. Chapter 47: "Prayer's Price"

Equipment

  • Broadsword: A long blade Crowley wielded as a human in the past. Its handle may have been covered in a gray leather like material to provide additional grip.
016

Two hand wielding

He wields a first-class vampire sword. The dark colored sword handle is quite long, where it can be used one, or two-handedly. The weapon has a distinctive golden knuckle guard and quillon. The pommel is decoratively a tipped arrow shape. Such a weapon is able to produce spikes to stab through the palm of Crowley's hand using spikes. With blood drawn, the sword can absorb this from Crowley to further strengthen the weapon, where the blade is colored further by the blood. Able to physically affect its wielder, Crowley can benefit from enhanced physical prowess given by a sword that has drank his blood. Ranged emissions can be generated from the blade that are more than capable of slicing through objects.

–Questioning Ferid's claim that he is off to make friends. Chapter 44: "A Drive Along Death's Shoreline"

Oh, nice. If you fight with me, that'll make waiting for Ferid less boring.

–Keen to fight while Ferid drives to them. Chapter 45: "Familiar Faces"

Uh, actually... I'm not after anything in particular myself.

–Responding after Yu surrenders to him. Chapter 46: "Return of the Hero"

Was that spectacular enough for you?

–A question for Ferid after slamming the breaks on to send him flying through the windshield of the bus. Chapter 49: "Progenitor's Memory"

We can't rescue them. Not right now, anyway. Still... This is amazing. Ferid is actually screaming.

–Speaking to Yu concerning Ferid and Krul's sunlight exposure torture. Chapter 51: "Crucifying the Immortal"

It's always easy to hold back the thirst... until it suddenly isn't.

–Speaking to Ferid regarding Mika resisting the urge to drink while talking to the squad. Chapter 69: "The Day the Sun Was Lost"

Yeah. Now that you mention it, I am a little thirsty. I did a lot of exercise today.

–Replying to Ferid and his views after the Hyakuya Sect invasion. Chapter 91: "Orphan Prince"

Ah well. It's not like I've got anything else to do. So what do you think, then? Is it still the First's turn? Or is it our father's turn now?

–His reasoning for being involved with Ferid, and asking for his perspective. Chapter 109: "Moving Pieces", page 30

Yep. You got killed all right.

–Commenting to Ferid after he was decapitated by Krul. Chapter 112: "Defining Family", page 36

Actually, I haven't heard anything about this "plan" of yours yet.

–Unaware of Ferid and Guren's plan, but committed to preventing Yu's escape as part of it. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 32

Trivia

  • It is possible that Crowley's name was inspired by Aleister Crowley.
  • He is interested in Shinoa's blood.
  • "Crowley" is derived from the English term meaning "wood of the crows."
    • The name when anglicized from Gaelic means descendant of the hard hero.
  • When Ferid Bathory allows Crowley to bite Mika and drink his blood in a drama CD, Crowley rejects the offer. Stating that that behavior is illegal, Crowley adds that he does not like children's blood.
  • According to the Q&A with Kagami, Crowley's attendants braid his hair.
  • In the 2019 popularity poll, Crowley ranked in 7th place with 1,747 votes.[84]
  • It may be the case that Crowley's hair is two colors because he dyed most of his hair dark brown and left his bangs red.
  • In chapter 52, it is revealed that Crowley was a 13th progenitor for show. But in truth, concerning his power, he is a 7th progenitor, the same rank as Ferid Bathory. This is because rather than being turned into a vampire by his blood, Crowley ingested the blood of a second progenitor, Saitō.
  • Chapter 134: "Reincarnation Rondo" heavily features the topic of Reincarnation where Ferid's Brother was also introduced. It is mentioned that Crowley is the 440th, and for the question of out of everyone why was Crowley chosen by Ferid to become a vampire using Saito's blood, it may be that Crowley is Ferid's brother reincarnated.
