This article comprehensively details Mikaela Hyakuya's story from the Seraph of the End series, namely the light novels and manga. Since living in the Hyakuya Orphanage after his parents's turned on him, Mika then experienced the events of the catastrophe where most of humanity perished. After four years of living in an underground vampire city, Mika planned for his family to escape to the outside world. Where that plan did not succeed, Mika would endure the next four years as a vampire.

Sent on tasks such as dealing with seraph experiments, and securing humans, Mika would battle against the forces of the Moon Demon Company in Shinjuku and find Yūichirō Hyakuya once more. His knowledge of human experimentation confirmed, Mika would continue his goal of rescuing Yu. Tracking him in Nagoya where vampire nobles were being targeted, Mika would retrieve Yu and become a complete vampire by drinking human blood for the first time. Coming across the Japanese Imperial Demon Army slaughtering its own troops, Mika would help Yu with Shinoa Squad escape.

On their own, Mika would suggest they rescue Krul Tepes who could potentially help them. Having to work with Ferid Bathory, he would have to help free them both for the information they had. After helping deal with a seraph, travelling to Shibuya he would hear the the First was becoming active. Seeking Yu as the city came under attack from the Hyakuya Sect, he would defend him from Guren Ichinose. Sacrificing himself and becoming a demon, Mika would make a contract with Yu to escape the First by binding himself to Cursed Gear. In Akihabara, he would find there may be a chance to resurrect his family and all of humanity.

21st century[]

When Mikaela Shindō was a child, his parents abused him. Eventually, they "grew tired of him" and threw him from a moving vehicle.[1] Since he possessed the seraph gene, the Hyakuya Orphanage picked him up afterward. He was one of the children that were being experimented on by the religious Hyakuya Sect to create a weapon of mass destruction, as part of the "Seraph of the End" plan in destroying the world.[2]

Ch114-17

Mika's first appearance at the orphanage

At some point, Mika was brought to the Hyakuya orphanage, where he was happy to introduce himself.[3] Sent to an orphanage that Shikama Doji had secretively added to Saito's Hyakuya group, this orphanage had murdered children over decades. It was speculated by Saito that the First had finally found a vessel strong enough to contain the soul of his son, Mikaela.

Catastrophe

Protecting Shinoa

Mika appears with Saitō in a residential neighborhood late in the afternoon. He asks Saitō if he can really buy whatever he likes. He asks what the other kids at the orphanage would want and if their teachers would be mad if they brought back ice cream. Saitō says he does not see any problem. He gives Mika a 10,000-yen note and sends him over to the supermarket. A few minutes later, Mika returns and asks Saitō for help because he bought too much for him to carry on his own.

He asks Saitō who Guren is and he says that he doesn't know him and thought that Mika might know him but Mika says he doesn't. Saitō tells Mika to watch out because Guren might be some kind of pervert. Mika agrees as he says Guren looks pretty creepy. Both he and Saitō leave and head back to the orphanage.

Later, Mika races Akane and the other orphans to the park. He recognizes Guren as the man Saitō describes as the neighborhood pervert. He runs up to Shinoa to see if she is alright, and she milks the situation by saying that Guren told her all sorts of dirty things and that he was probably trying to abduct her. Mika threatens to call the police, but Guren leaves.

Catastrophe

Seeing Mahiru arrive

The Hyakuya consider him to have an exceedingly high-grade body for experimentation and refused to give him to Mahiru Hīragi. Their notes document him as acting as a leader of their orphans. Mahiru notices he had impressive charisma among them.

Mika sends Akane to investigate if Miyuki Yamada, who is actually Mahiru Hīragi, is a nice person since she is adopting Junji Haiyama, a four-year-old boy at their orphanage. Since Mahiru's face lights up while thinking about Guren, Akane decides she must be a nice person. After Mika calms Junji down, he instructs Mahiru about some of his behaviors, and Mahiru leaves with Junji.

Prologue[]

Seraph of the end manga ch 1 (17)

Introducing himself to Yu when he arrived

Mika was outside the Hyakuya Orphanage playing ball with Akane and other orphans. When Yu was brought there with the director, Mika saw him and said hi.[4] Inside as Yu was introduced to them, Mika was upbeat in complying with the direction to be nice and make friends with Yu. Approaching Yu at once to introduce himself, Mika checked whether Yu was eight where he was too. Mentioning that made them the oldest kids at the orphanage, Mika hopes they can become friends.[5]

In response to Yu grumpily turning away, Mika was undaunted and acquired his hand. Announcing it was nice to meet him, Mika shook Yu's hand with some enthusiasm. Asked who he thinks he is with his hand rejected, Mika addressed how Yu is being so quick to challenge him to a fight. Claiming he was the leader but he will still be nice to him, Mika said for them to shake on it. Asked by Yu whether he was trying to start something with him, punches seem delivered and Mika easily has Yu on the ground. In response to the director saying it is not nice to fight, Mika politely replies it was not one, they were just getting to know one another.[6]

Presenting his hand, Mika says for them to try this again. Sharing his name once more, Mika details to Yu that he used to be alone like him, but here everyone is one big family. As of today, that includes Yu. His expression changes when Yu says who needs some stupid family. After it is mentioned how his father tried to kill him, and his mother called him demon spawn, Mika emphasizes with his situation.[7]

Wow. That must've been awful. Do you want to hear how I came here? Both of my parents abused me. One day, they got sick of me and threw me out of a moving car. I was brought here.

–Eight-year-old Mika speaking to Yu in the Hyakuya Orphanage. Chapter 1, "The World of Blood Legacy" page 23

Witnessing the orphans surge forwards to happily shares their stories too, Mika details how none of them are sad because as of today they have all gotten a new big brother named Yu.[8]

Noticing the director at the orphanage suddenly begin to bleed from her nose and mouth, Mika saw her fall to the ground. From explosions outside, Mika reacts to the sounds and looks outside the window. The virus struck down the adult population of Tokyo while Third Progenitor Krul Tepes led the invasion of their city. Hearing that humanity has destroyed itself, Mika appears wary.[9]

Turning to the children panicking for the director to wake up, Mika is alarmed that she is not getting up. Mika directs Yu to keep an eye on the little kids as he is going to do something about the director. This was Christmas of 2012.[10]

Events of 2016[]

After remembering his parent's death, years later, Mika wonders what his mother meant when she said he was a chosen child with the special name of Michaela. He lives on as vampire livestock.

At some point Mika was using the lavatory when Yu knocked on the door. Asking what, Mika responded that he was not done, having just sat down. Questioning if Yu has to go, hearing no, Mika wonders why did he knock on the door. Unsure what Yu is holding when asked, Mika is startled when it appears as if there is a key being placed into the door knob. Calling for him to hold it, Mika asks if Yu is not going to unlock the door again, and to quit it with that. Stating that he was almost done, Mika told Yu to quit it.[11]

During his time in Sanguinem, Mika was happy around Yu and his other family members including Akane and Ako.[12] In a separate scenario, Mika was walking with Yu through the streets of the city, apparently discussing promises to get really strong, fight all the blood-suckers, and save their family.[13]

In Sanguinem, Mika donates his blood, cringing as the needle pierces his neck. He chats with Yu, who is sitting next to him. Mika thinks Yu is kind because he always maintains the children's hope about defeating vampires. Mika wonders how he can get a future for the other children. He recalls Ferid Bathory, who is a seventh progenitor and is rumored to have children frequently visit his residence. Unlike the other vampires, he is interested in humans and would even help them improve their livelihood.

Michaela book 1 - Yu and Mika after giving blood

With Yu in Sanguinem

Once they finish up and leave, Yu asks him what is wrong and says Mika is spacing out. Mika only says he feels tired after donating blood. Yu prattles on about killing vampires again before telling Mika to not carry everything on his own shoulders. Mika knows that one wrong move will get him killed, and he cannot risk Yu dying.

Mika tells him not to worry and asks what Yu's surname is, but Yu cannot remember. Yu asks Mika about his family since he does not look Japanese. Mika's mother was Japanese but his father was Russian. Mika says his last name was Shindō. Mika says all of the orphans use the surname Hyakuya because they are all family.

He thinks about the "special" name Mikaela and looked into it after his parents died. He knows it is a female variant of the name Michael but has no idea what his delusional mother was talking about all those years ago.

Mika sees Ferid's mansion and splits off from Yu. He says he is going to get food from Sakuma's group and that Yu cannot come because he started a fight last time. In actuality, this is a lie, and Mika intends to visit Ferid.

Michaela book 1 - Ferid contemplates Mika

At Ferid's mansion

Later on in the intermission, Mika is at Ferid's mansion. He recalls that there is a rumor about children disappearing here. Regardless, he knocks on the mansion door. The inside is magnificent. A girl shows him in and says he is Lord Ferid's special favorite. There are many toys inside. There is a garden outside filled with many colorful flowers.

The girl addresses Lord Ferid, who then rises out of the flower bed with trails of blood dripping from his lips. A young boy also emerges. When he sees Mika, he covers his neck in shame. Ferid tells the boy he may now leave and can take anything he likes from the grounds. The boy thanks him graciously and runs off. The girl leaves as well.

Mika says he heard he could get benefits from Lord Ferid if he came, and Ferid says that is true as long as Ferid likes him. Mika thinks of the Hyakuya orphans. Mika asks what he should do to get Ferid to like him, and Ferid says he has already taken a shine to them. He praises Mika's blue eyes and golden hair. He asks Mika's name and then calls it a good one. Mika says he is not very fond of his name.

Ferid says that, in the past, his master called him "Michaela."

Ferid bites him, and Mika feels a humiliating immoral pleasure mixed with pain. He becomes weak and concerned he might die. Ferid stops, saying that he nearly drank too much. Mika falls to the ground and is unable to stand up. He struggles to breathe.

Mika decides he absolutely cannot bring Yu or the others here. Mika realizes he is crying.

Ferid tells him to eat in the dining room and then return. Mika wipes his tears and smiles.

Mika sees the abundance of food. Instead of eating there, he pictures the smiling faces of his family and takes fruit with him. Once he returns home, the children ask him while he is late. Mika decides that he will grin and bear it, no matter how horrible this place is. The children see the grapes and become very excited. Mika reflects that he got involved in a journey that is over two thousand years old.

Prologue[]

Mikaela's first appearance

Having his blood taken

Later, he is with Yu as children are having their blood taken by the vampires. Whilst Yu is angered, Mika explains that there is no way humans can expect to beat vampires with strength.

Seraph of the end manga ch 1 (8)

Surviving in their new world

He contemplates a different approach on how to handle their situation. After, Mika sees and approaches Ferid Bathory, and offers his blood in exchange for food and money.[14]

Even amongst vampires, Lord Ferid has a noble pedigree. As long as I give him my blood, he'll buy me anything I want. Now, we can have good things to eat. In the end, the best way to live down here is to be smart. You've got to be clever to survive.

–Twelve-year-old Mika to Yu as they live in an underground vampire city. Chapter 1, "The World of Blood Legacy"

Although he used the money to buy ingredients to make curry for the other children, his real goal was to steal a map of the underground city from Ferid's mansion. He eventually succeeded, stealing both a map and a gun. This seemed largely based on a conversation where Mika asked what Yu would like.

What if one day just the Hyakuya Orphanage family got out? What if we found a world with no vampires in it at all? Wouldn't that be great?

–Checking with Yu what he liked. Chapter 12 "A Very Safe Supplement"

Using the map, Mika and Yu attempted to escape with the rest of the children from the orphanage and even reached the exit. However, Ferid anticipated their actions and awaited them at the exit. He gleefully informed them that the map was correct, and he would have a hard time following them above ground. When the younger children ran, Ferid cheerfully slaughtered them in front of Yu and Mika, claiming to enjoy the look of despair on their faces.

Yu... don't forget. We're family.

–Speaking to Yu before making a suicidal charge at Ferid. Chapter 1, "The World of Blood Legacy"

Mika dying

During their escape from captivity the orphans were ambushed by Ferid

In order to buy Yu time to escape, Mika charged at Ferid with the gun. When Mika attempted to shoot him, the vampire punctured Mika's chest with his claws and then tore off Mika's right arm, which was holding the gun. Yu refused to run away and caught the gun, managing to shoot Ferid in the face. Although Yu incapacitated Ferid, Mika was fatally injured and could no longer escape. When Yu refused to leave Mika's side, Mika pushed him away until Yu finally fled to the exit. He felt relieved that at least Yu managed to escape and happy that Yu finally called him family. With those thoughts, Mika was prepared to die in peace.

Becoming a vampire[]

Just then, vampire guards and Krul Tepes arrived shortly afterward. Krul claimed that Mika belonged to her. She interrogated Ferid, and his taunting responses led her to rip off his arm and crushing his throat on the floor with her heel. She spared his life, and he waved his arm at her, promising to return. Krul asked Mika if he would like her to grant him eternal life, but he refused the offer. Even though he expressed no desire to live, she bit her lip and forced her blood into his mouth through a kiss, ending his human life and turning him into a vampire against his will. He was held by Krul as he ceased being human.[15]

Mika gives in

An extreme thirst as a vampire

After becoming a vampire, Mika refuses to drink human blood, which will complete his transformation into a true vampire, granting him eternal youth and immense power. Resisting his thirst causes him tremendous pain, but he claims he would rather die than become a vampire. Krul warns him that a vampire who does not drink blood will turn into a senseless, raving demon. Since Mika refuses so adamantly, Krul slices her own wrist open to offer her own blood. After all, her blood is not human blood. As he drinks it, she claims he will never be able to leave her, and he will be her dog for all time.

At some point Mika was sparring with Krul and knocked back by her. Mika refused to say anything no matter how many times he was struck. Stating that it did not hurt Mika said that he could keep going. Readying his sword Mika requested that they begin again and resumed the practice.[16]

Events of 2020[]

Second Shibuya High Arc[]

Mikaela is less than dead

Mika has survived 4 years later

He reappears at the end of chapter 2 in 2020 as a vampire. Despite being a vampire, he continues to grow and age since he has yet to drink human blood. Ferid finds him in a chapel within the Vampire Third Capital of Sanguinem and notes that Mika comes here often. Mika points his sword at Ferid's neck, but Ferid is unconcerned. He tells Mika they found Yūichirō Hyakuya, who he says is being used by some very nasty humans are using him, just like they thought.

Mika vs Horseman

Effortlessly destroying a Four Horseman of John

Mika reappears in chapter 5. He arrives in Sannomiya, Kobe and kills a Horseman of the Apocalypse to save a human girl as she flees for her life. The humans cheer, relieved that vampires have come to protect them just like in Osaka. Lacus Welt complements Mika on his power, but René Simm scolds him for stealing the glory and kill for himself. René states Mika's greedy human roots show through as clear as day. Mika denies it, saying that he does not care about glory and says that René can have it. The vampires shrug. They announce they will protect the humans that they will protect them in exchange for their blood. In the meantime, the human girl presents her neck to Mika, offering him her blood. Mika blushes and swallows. Later, we learn he refuses the offer.

Mika goes to the vampire meeting

Attending a meeting where Krul means to attack humans

During a meeting of nobles in Sanguinem, Mika enters the grand hall. Noticing him, Krul smiles and Ferid waves. Krul and her speaker announce war against the Japanese Imperial Demon Army for the crimes of killing their compatriots, stealing their territory, and delving into forbidden magic. The humans are even experimenting with the "Seraph of the End." Mika says he will save Yu.

In chapter 7, Mika, Lacus, and René fly to Tokyo to invade Shinjuku.

Shinjuku Arc[]

In Shinjuku, Ferid commands the attack with Mika at his side. Lieutenant Colonel Guren Ichinose spots them, and Ferid comments on it shortly afterward. He tells Mika not to worry about it and advises that Mika drink some human blood since battle is their only opportunity to drink it from the source, but Mika tells him to shut up and says it is none of his business. Ferid reminds Mika that vampire law dictates that they cannot directly bite and drink blood from humans in the city, but Mika points out Ferid had no regard for that law when he drank Mika's blood four years ago. Mika recalls when Ferid slaughtered his family for entertainment.

Mika's agenda

Around during the assault on Shinjuku

Ferid asks him if he is still angry about an incident so long ago, despite being a vampire now. Mika denies it, stating that he is only angry at himself for failing to protect his family, but he is clearly angry about the topic. Ferid comments that Mika is always so hard on himself, and he teases him about Yu. He once again tries to convince Mika to drink human blood, but Mika ignores him and walks away. After becoming thirsty while watching another vampire drink, Mika quenches his thirst by drinking Krul's blood from a test tube.

Mika vs Guren explosion

Fighting against Guren

Guren storms onto the battlefield and kills many vampires in a single attack. Ferid orders Mika to join him in killing Guren, but Mika claims he can handle Guren on his own. At the Shinjuku 5th Street intersection, Guren and Mika clash. Although Guren complements Mika's strength, Mika responds by saying Guren is not very strong. Guren uses a fudo myo-o spell to cause an explosion. Mika dodges easily, but Ferid warns Mika his arrogance will be his downfall and offers his assistance once more. He points out that Guren never planned to fight Mika one-on-one.

Mika vs Shigure Yukimi

In the middle of a trap set and deployed by Shigure

Shigure set a trap, but Mika manages to escape. With the help of Goshi's illusion, Guren attacks Mika from behind, claiming checkmate; however, Ferid steps between them and blocks the attack. He backhands Guren and sends him flying. Ferid warns Mika that humans are exceptionally determined greedy cowards and must be fought cautiously. He proposes fighting Guren together with Mika, but Mika promptly rejects the offer. Mika says he knows how the humans work now and commands his sword to drink more of his blood. Ferid comments on his arrogance and wonders if that is a lingering remnant of being human. Mika lets Guren talk for a few seconds with his team, and Guren decides to take a second potentially lethal pill. However, Mika attacks him before Guren can ingest the medication. When Guren asks if Mika has gotten faster than before, Mika claims he stopped holding back. Guren calls him a naive brat. Mika defeats Guren and stabs him through the chest.

Yu stabs Mika for the first time

Finding Yu after 4 years and stabbed by him

More humans? What a pain in the—Y... Yu..?

–His views towards humans in Shinjuku, and seeing Yu again after four years. Chapter 12 "A Very Safe Supplement"

Enraged overseeing Guren get stabbed, Yu arrives. Mika recognizes him and turns around, but Yu pierces Mika through the chest with Asuramaru, calling him a bloodsucker and telling him to die. Then, he recognizes his not-quite-dead best friend and family member. Mika does not try to defend himself.

Guren grasps Mika's sword with a spell tag and urges Yu to activate his weapon and kill the vampire, but Yu freezes when he realizes who he just stabbed. Mika releases his sword and escapes. Guren hits Yu and asks him why he did not kill that vampire when he had the chance. While Yu reveals Mika's identity to his squad, Ferid chats with Mika.

My family's with the vampires

Facing Yu and the humans around him

Ferid says that Yu is obviously being used by those humans, and Mika claims he will save Yu. When Ferid mentions a human-like Yu could never be one of them and volunteers to turn Yu into a vampire, Mika grabs Ferid's collar and threatens to kill him. Ferid says he was just kidding, and he says he will keep the humans busy while Mika rescues his "beloved princess." Crying, Yu calls out Mika. Then, Thirteenth Progenitor Crowley Eusford arrives. Ferid changes his plan from killing Yu's human allies to turning them into livestock. The skirmish begins, and Ferid steps behind Yu and grabs his shoulder, causing Mika to amputate the responsible appendage. Of course, Ferid says he was just joking about tasting Yu.

Mika princess carries Yu

The "princess" or bridal carry of Yu

Mika steps up to Yu and tells him to forget about the humans and run away with him. He then lifts Yu and carries him in his arms.

Yu, forget all of them and run away with me!

–Saying to Yu to leave the battle, his squad, everything, behind and escape. Chapter 13 "Reunion of Childhood Friends"

Mika warns Yu that he is in a bad place and is being used by the humans, but Yu has no idea what he is talking about. Yu struggles and breaks free, jumping to the ground.

Mika's warning about the humans

Warning about the humans using Yu

Yu says that Mika makes it sound as though he is no longer human and he is asked if it is his fault, which Mika immediately answers that it is not Yu's fault. Mika begs Yu to come with him, insisting that he is Yu's only true friend and the humans are only deceiving and using Yu. Yu looks back when Shinoa screams and sees his comrades defeated by the vampires. When he tries to help them, Mika grabs his wrists and says they have to go. Just then, the special supplement Shinoa gave Yu under Guren's orders takes effect, causing Yu to transform as his seraph component runs wild. Yu screams.

Do not interfere, Vampire

Stopping Yu in his altered state from killing humans

Yu swings at Mika and Crowley before moving to kill Shinoa, his true target. Mika jumps in the way, and Yu stabs him through the back. Mika urges Yu against killing humans, and asks Shinoa how she could dare use Yu like that. The berserk Yu calls Mika a vampire, telling him to not interfere and saying that all humans must be killed. Guren orders Shinoa to embrace Yu to undo the transformation, so she jumps in after Yu flings Mika aside. Yu coughs blood, and Mika curses the humans, wondering what exactly they did to him.

Ferid orders a retreat

Taken away once human reinforcements have arrived

Human reinforcements arrive, and Ferid orders Mika to retreat. He says Mika cannot save Yu right now and says they should go home. Mika refuses to leave Yu, so Ferid grabs Mika's neck and tells him that he should shut his mouth like a good boy. Ferid grabs Mika around the waist and carries him away.

Post-Shinjuku Arc[]

Ch15(1)

Calling himself ugly

Ch15(2)

Mika and Yu want to save each other

Later, Mika cries in his sleep during his curse detoxification. He wakes up surprised and mentions he has not cried since becoming a vampire. Lacus asks Mika about his condition and says that Mika sustained the worst injuries of the battle, but Mika ignores him. Lacus brings up the "Seraph of the end," stating he heard it troubles even the Progenitor Council. He asks Mika about that monster (i.e. Yu) and if his connection to that thing is why Krul favors Mika. Mika ignores him. Finally, Lacus asks what exactly Mika himself is, and Mika answers that he just an ugly bloodsucker. Krul summons Mika to the Royal Audience Chamber over the intercom. Lacus taunts Mika by calling him the queen's pet. In a meeting with Krul, Mika promises to save Yu.

In chapter 19, as children play nearby, Mika sits on the streets of Sanguinem, sweating and gasping in pain as he fights his thirst for human blood. He says Yu's name and mutters that it hurts.

Thirsty... So thirsty! I need blood. Somebody let me drink human blood! Damn it. Human... human blood... so thirsty... Damn it! Yu... it hurts!

–Physically pained due to an increasing need for human blood. Chapter 19 "Cause for Madness"

During chapter 22, Ferid pesters Mika about drinking human blood again. He says Mika ages because he has yet to drink human blood, but Mika is still just barely at the age Ferid finds most beautiful. He suggests Mika halts his growth at its best point and says it will make Mika feel better. He plucks a child named Dai off the street and punctures the surface of his neck with a thumbnail to make it bleed. He tempts Mika with the human blood; however, Mika resists his desire to drink and grabs Ferid's arm instead. He tells Ferid to let the boy go and states that drinking directly from a human is against vampire law. Ferid drops the child.

He asks Mika why he avoids drinking human blood so much. He asks if it is because Mika hopes to become a human again one day, but Mika tells him to get lost. Ferid then smiles and asks if Mika is afraid Yu would hate him for drinking human blood. Mika does not respond.

Krul with Mika

It is challenging to control his thirst

Unable to resist his thirst any longer, Mika enters Krul's chambers. She is filling up a vial of blood for him when he attacks her, biting her neck and shattering the vial, spilling its contents on the floor at his feet. Mika gulps her blood down and Krul embraces him. When Mika comes to his senses, he pushes her away, apologizing for losing control. Krul accepts his apology and says any vampire would act that way when parched for blood. She says that vampires, unlike humans, desire blood alone. He then looks downward and sheepishly asks her for a greater stock of blood. She teases him for being rough with her and orders him to report on the attack against the Shinjuku humans. Mika insists she owes him an explanation first.

The Progenitor Council

Invited to the progenitor council meeting

During a recent Progenitor Council Meeting, the high-ranking progenitors summoned Ferid to report on the battle in Shinjuku. Although any progenitors ranked lower than sixth are normally barred from their meetings, Ferid was the highest-ranking vampire on the battlefield and acted as the commander. Ferid shows a video of Yu transforming. He alerts the progenitors to the fact that humans are weaponizing the "Seraph of the end" once again. Alarmed, a fourth progenitor comments that Krul should have destroyed that plan when she destroyed the Hyakuya Sect in Japan eight years ago. Krul claims she eliminated the entire Hyakuya Sect along with each of guinea pig in their orphans who bore the seraph gene. Third Progenitor Lest Karr picks a fight with Krul, saying she has mishandled her management of Japan. She says she does not fail and says she will deploy their full army to kill every human in the Japanese Imperial Demon Army.

One council member notices Mika behind Ferid and asks who that child is. Ferid states that Mika is his favorite servant as of late, and he cannot bear to let Mika leave his side. No one actually states Mika's name. One progenitor begins yelling at Ferid to scold him since Mika is certainly not permitted there and Ferid himself is permitted only because of special circumstances, but another silences the scolding and says that Ferid has always had flights of eccentricity. The meeting concludes. Krul slashes at Ferid for his misbehavior, asking him if he is trying to dethrone her. Ferid hides behind Mika and says she would be the first suspect if he dies. He has blackmail against her since he knows about her involvement with the seraph of the end, and he says these secrets may be sent to the Progenitor Council on his death. She glares at him, and he says her adorable face makes his heart flutter. Since he is responsible for Yu's escape, he says he would face even worse punishment if he is discovered. He then joyfully concludes he and Krul are actually partners in crime since they share the same secrets. He tells her to take his hand and submit to him but then states he is just kidding. He promises to be back later, pats Mika on the butt, and leaves.

In the present, Mika asks Krul what her objective is since letting him and Yu live jeopardizes her position. She tells him he does not need to know, but he becomes upset and concerned that she may be trying to use Yu for her own ends.

The humans... No, the people who ran our orphanage were using me and Yu as guinea pigs in their experiments. That's what you told me. You said they were horrible experiments that would destroy the world, so you came in and saved us. Right? But according to the Council, you were supposed to kill us. So why let us live? It jeopardizes your position. What in the world do you want with us?

–After the progenitor council meeting, Mika wonders why Krul spared them. Chapter 22 "Taboo Krul"

Krul asks what he could possibly do to her and intertwines her fingers with his, squeezing his hand and making him crumple to the ground. She reminds him she can easily extinguish his puny life, and he is even dependent on her blood. She asks if he would rather die than be his tool. If he dies, then would Mika abandon Yu to those foul humans?

She says human foulness is not limited to any locale or group and asks if he will abandon Yu to his fate. He says he cannot follow her anymore, but she calls him selfish and says he cannot defy her. She says she likes both Mika and Yu and tells Mika to trust her, and that she is his savior, surrogate parent, and owner.

Giving into his pleading, she whispers her plans for Yu in Mika's ear. Startled, he asks if she is serious. She gives him orders to get "lost" in the ensuing war, hiding from both humans and vampires, and to find Yu. Mika obeys.

Nagoya Arc[]

Ch26

Attacking a girl because of thirst

In chapter 23, Mika, René, and Lacus wear their new uniforms and discuss orders to deploy to Nagoya. Then in chapter 26, Lacus accidentally kills a human child in front of Mika. He says drinking blood feels so good he always forgets to stop before they die. He tries to convince Mika to drink since they can only drink from the source while outside, but Mika says he does not need any. Lacus comments on Mika's small appetite, but René says he is unconcerned as long as Mika does his job. Their current assignment is to herd livestock from the surface and present them to the nobles of Nagoya. When Mika begins sweating and breathing more heavily from his thirst, Lacus asks him if he is not even going to take a sip. He warns them that nobles have different laws for their domains in Nagoya, and they may not be free to drink there. Mika lies and says he is not interested in human blood, but Lacus says that cannot be. When he asks what Mika is interested in, Mika walks away and attempts to parch his thirst with Krul's blood. His entire body hurts because he craves blood so badly, but he intends to keep holding back on his thirst since he has held back this long.

I'm not a human anymore. But... even if I'm not... until I save Yu from those humans... At least, until then... I...

–Considering his situation and plans. Chapter 26, "Thirst Logic"

Unfortunately, Krul's blood is ineffective at stemming his craving. Mad with thirst, he attacks a young human girl and pins her to the ground. When Lacus comments that Mika is going to drink after all, Mika flinches. One of the vampires tells him to be quick about it, but Mika just lets the girl go. She runs to her brother, and the siblings stare back at Mika with fear. Mika says he does not need any blood, and the chopper takes off with the humans. As the three vampires head toward Nagoya, Mika plans to resist human blood at least until he saves Yu from those humans.

Upon reaching Nagoya in chapter 29, Mika, René, and Lacus encounter Moon Demon Company Sergeant Aiko Aihara, who attacks them with her manifested bow and arrows and shoots down one chopper. Mika tells her he has questions for her, but she orders her team to commit suicide. Before she can swallow the poison herself, Mika sticks his fingers into her mouth and removes the pill.

You had a poison pill in your mouth. What terrifying loyalty. An inclination vampires don't have. But you won't be dying for yours. I have questions for you.

–Seeking information from Aiko Aihara concerning Yu's whereabouts. Chapter 30 "Sword of Justice"

She says he can torture her all he wants, but she will tell him nothing. He tells her to shut up before the other vampires realize she is not dead, which confuses her. He tells her to play dead and speaks in a whisper. He asks her about Yu. When her expression changes, he realizes she knows something and demands she give him that information. When she speaks up, he covers her mouth. He tells her Yu has friends, but they are not those humans.

When Lacus and René talk to Mika, Mika reports that Aiko killed herself along with the other humans, surprising her. Another vampire reports that all the vampires stationed underground were killed and claim that Nineteenth Progenitor Mel Stefano was murdered by a pack of humans in military garb. René suggests they head to Nagoya City Hall since that is where the closest noble's seat is.

Aiko's hostage

Taken hostage

Alarmed, Aiko jumps to her feet and puts a knife to Mika's neck in an attempt to use him as a hostage. Lacus points out that human is still alive, and René instructs him to capture her. Aiko threatens Mika's life again, but Lacus says that neither he nor René care if Mika lives or dies. Mika asks her why she moved. Aiko whispers that Yūichirō is headed to Nagoya City Hall and says all of the humans will be killed if the vampires head over there. When Mika asks why she trusts him, she says he called Yu a nickname, so she is gambling that they have a close relationship. Mika grabs her wrist and crushes it, making her scream in pain, amusing Lacus.

Mika monologues at her about her being a filthy, shameless human who betrayed her own comrades to save her own life. Catching onto his plan, she begs for her life, and he kicks her several yards. She promises to talk and says that the JIDA sent a platoon of fifty to attack the Automobile Museum and assassinate Seventeenth Progenitor Zane Lindau. René says they will be questioned if they do not act on this information, so they decided to investigate the Automobile Museum.

Aiko asks Mika to kill her before they torture her for more information. Mika tells her to do it herself, but she says that would cast everything in doubt. As Mika leaves her behind, she jumps to her feat, manifesting her Cursed Gear bow. She screams that the vampires will kill her anyway, so she will take at least one of them with her. Mika calls her a fool before slicing through her chest and ending her life. With her last breath, she smiles and thanks him.

He takes five vampires with him to Nagoya City Hall while Lacus and René investigate the false lead. Mika and the vampires with him take a helicopter. When the other vampires notice humans are attacking Lord Crowley and intend to call for reinforcements, Mikaela kills them all before they have the chance to defend themselves. This is the first time Mika is shown killing anyone in this series aside from the horseman in chapter 2.

MDC charges at Mika

Waiting along for Yu in the path of the Moon Demon Company

At the end of chapter 34, he waits for the battered Moon Demon Company spots and run toward him. He says it is time those humans return Yu to him.

Okay, humans. It's time you gave Yu back to me.

–Determined when the Moon Demon Company runs toward him in Nagoya. Chapter 34 "Asura's Power"

The surviving soldiers charge at him. Mika notices four transport helicopters coming toward the area realizes he must move quickly before the Kyoto vampires join the battle. Since he is facing over thirty humans, he commands his sword to drink more of his blood than usual. Mika swings his sword, but Rika Inoue and Tarō Kagiyama block his attack. Makoto Narumi attacks him from the side, but Mika blocks it.

Spotting Yu, Mika leaves them and jumps past Shūsaku Iwasaki and Yayoi Endō. Confused, Makoto comments that the vampire is making an unwise decision. Goshi says Mika is underestimating them, but Sayuri wonders if he has an objective other than attacking them. Shigure says they have to kill it regardless. Goshi summons an illusion, but Mika dives through it anyway, surprising him. Mika dodges an attack from Sayuri, but Shigure gets him with three kunai into his right thigh. Mito then punches him before he can land and sends him to the ground in front of Shinoa Squad. Mika sees Yu on Shihō Kimizuki's back. Yoichi recognizes Mika from Shinjuku and informs the others. In the meantime, the soldiers surround and attack Mika. One stabs him in the back, but Mika ignores him leaving the humans are puzzled by his strange behavior.

Shinoa calls out to Mika to identify him, but he tells her to shut up and return Yu to him. Kimizuki says they should stop him before Mika kills them which Yoichi protests. When Mika lunges at Kimizuki, Mitsuba tries to block him, but Mika smacks her weapon away. Kimizuki drops Yu while trying to block Mika, telling Mika cannot have him. Mika soon throws him aside before finally getting to Yu.

Shinya stabs Mika

Stabbed by Shinya's cursed gear rifle

As Mika holds the unconscious Yu in his arms, Yoichi jumps on his back, and tells Mika he won't let him go anywhere. Mika tells him to quit getting in his way. Yoichi says Mika can kill him, but Mika is their family so long as he is Yu's family. Mika knocks him off as well, telling him to not be stupid and die. Shinya Hīragi uses the distraction to stab Mika in the back and through his chest. He tells Yoichi that he did excellent work and this battle is over. He tells Mika to die, alarming Mitsuba and Yoichi. Shinoa activates Shikama Dōji and knocks Shinya away from Mika, surprising both of them. With her back to Mika, she explains that Yu would be mad at them if Mika were to die. She orders Mika to take Yu and run.

Ch35

Hugging Yu

The other soldiers demand to know what Shinoa thinks she is doing and say they must kill that bloodsucker. Kimizuki, Mitsuba, and Yoichi join Shinoa, stepping between Mika and the other humans as well. Yoichi restates their motto: "Family takes care of family." Mika comments that family does not exist in this messed-up world. He recalls playing with his own family on the streets of Sanguinem and pulls Yu close to him. Shinoa tells Mika to hurry up and then meet up with them at Nagoya Airport. Mika asks her why he would meet up with them, but she says she decided to trust him and that is that. Her squad charges at the Moon Demon Company while Mika flees with Yu. While escaping, Mika holds the unconscious Yu in his arms and pleads for him to wake up.

Gotta run... Gotta get away... from humans... from vampires... Nngh! Dammit... Not enough... blood... I let those humans... cut me too much... C'mon, Yu... Wake up already. Please...! There's something I've got to tell you... while I'm still alive and sane...

–Carrying an unconscious Yu, he focuses on imparting a message to him despite his own precarious state. Chapter 36, "Yu & Mika"

Mika takes him to a ruined convenience store. While waiting for Yu to awaken and suffering from his injuries, he attacks a human child but frees him when the child calls him a monster. Mika says he does not want to become a vampire, even when he finally got Yu back.

Ch36(1)

Attacking Yu when he wakes up

When Yu wakes up and calls out to him, Mika mutters about human blood and attacks him. While he is screaming and in pain, Yu offers his blood to him. Mika jumps on Yu but stops before biting him. Yu apologizes for leaving Mika behind, and Mika returns to his senses.

Don't be so cruel to me, Yu. Are you really telling me... that you want me to become a monster just to satisfy your ego? All these years, I've been holding back. Resisting. Even though I desperately wanted to drink, I swore I wouldn't let myself turn into a monster before I saw you again. I've tried so hard to resist for so long. Now, you come along and tell me to stop like it's nothing!!

–Discussing becoming a complete vampire with Yu and how he has resisted. Chapter 36, "Yu & Mika"

Yu wants Mika to drink his blood, but Mika refuses to become a monster just for Yu's sake which leads to the two arguing. Mika has something important he came to tell Yu, but Yu covers his ears and refuses to listen until Mika drinks his blood first. Yu cuts his wrist, and Mika complains. Yu says that drinking a little blood is not enough to turn Mika into a monster and says they are still family regardless of what Mika becomes. Mika begins crying.

Ch36(2)

Drinking Yu's blood, then becoming a complete vampire

On Yu's third offer, Mika hugs him and bites into his neck, drinking his blood and becoming a true vampire. After drinking, Mika apologizes. Yu says it did not hurt much. Then, Yu notices Mika's eyes change color. Mika blames Yu for turning him into a monster, so Yu tells him to growl or something then. Mika says surviving by drinking blood from his own family is not normal, and he is a failure as a human. Yu says he is fine if he is not normal. He says Guren took him in and told him to live, even if his only reason was for revenge. Guren said Yu might find someone who would need him again, and he found Mika.

Yu says he does not care if Mika is a vampire now, and he will find a way to change Mika back if Mika ever gets sick of it. He tells Mika to never try to go off and die again. Mika states that he is the one who is supposed to save Yu and comments that Yu is stronger than he used to be. Mika laughs. Mika says Guren is probably just using Yu, but Yu says he does not care if either Guren or Mika want to use him. Mika sees this as too risky and says he will never use Yu. Yu points out that Mika just drank his blood. He says Mika may drink however much he needs in exchange for helping him rescue his new family.

Mika warns him against the Demon Army and draws his sword against Yu when he insists on finding his family. Yu states he wants to rescue his family, and Mika is obligated to help him. He says he would rather die than be unable to save his family. Mika reveals that the girl with the scythe saved them, and Mika agrees to save only those four.

Yu volunteers to drive to meet with them, but Mika decides to drive instead. During the drive, Mika informs Yu about the Seraph of the End Project, the Hyakuya Orphanage, and how the Demon Army is now redoing the same experiment which caused the end of the world eight years ago.

It's not our fault. We were just being used. We still are. It's the humans' fault. The Hyakuya Orphanage was just another one of their test sites... and we were their guinea pigs. That experiment failed. Humans screwed up and destroyed the world. But despite that, they haven't learned. Now they're reaching for even greater, more dangerous power. That failed experiment is being redone by the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. It's called the Seraph of the End Project.

–Aware of his and Yu's background, and human activities that threaten the world. Chapter 37, "Monsters & Family"

Mika invites Yu to run away with him, and Yu agrees to talk it over with the others since Mika is so set on them. He tells Mika that Mika can trust the others as much as he trusts Yu. Mika says he does not see that happening.

Mika and Yu continue to drive to Nagoya Airport, and Mika once again tries to talk Yu out of it. Mika states that the human named Shinoa is no friend of his. Yu retorts that they have already settled the matter, but Mika says he does not realize how terrible humans can be. Yu reminds Mika that Yu is human. Mika says he went overseas a few times to destroy human cults who were experimenting on the Seraph of the End. A flashback shows an emaciated Seraph child with wings for arms confined in fluid with an oxygen mask. It begs Mika to kill it, to "kill this ugly thing I've become."

I was sent overseas a few times. It was our mission to destroy some human cult groups. All of them were experimenting on the 'Seraph of the End'. Do you have any idea what those experiments entailed? Yu? And the Demon Army is the worst of them all. Even all the other cult groups we crushed said they went beyond the pale.

–Revealing his activities and aware of human experimentation. Chapter 39, "The Beginning of the Plan"

In the present, Mika states that the Demon Army is the worst of them by far. Yu asks Mika what they should do as an alternative, and Mika they should get away from the Demon Army. Humans across the globe are after the Seraph of the End experiment, and experimental subjects like them would only cause trouble for Shinoa. Yu agrees and wants to at least check on Shinoa and the others from afar. After that, he and Mika will take off.

Still... You have to. You have to at least stay away from the Demon Army. If they get ahold of you... They'll just destroy the world again. Yu... Run away with me. Right now. Let's run away from it all and live in peace somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

–Aware of the danger to Yu, he suggests they leave together. Chapter 37, "Monsters & Family"

If Yu's friends are safe, then they can plan how to rescue Guren. Mika immediately turns the suggestion down but soon gives in when Yu begs. He says he may be able to do something if Guren is still alive. Overjoyed, Yu repeatedly asks Mika how until he annoys Mika enough for Mika to tell him to shut up. Mika says Yu has not changed since they were children. Mika says the vampire queen kept him as a pet of sorts, and they can ask her for help. When Yu asks if she can be trusted, Mika says she does not know but will at least listen to them. Yu asks Mika who she is to him, and Mika says she is the one who saved his life. On that note, Yu immediately says they can trust her. Mika asks if Yu has any brain cells in his head at all, and Yu says it was only thanks to her that they could see each other again.

They arrive at Nagoya Airport by Chapter 40. He and Yu step into the fray, surprising Shinoa Squad and Narumi. Mika points out that humans are killing humans and tells Yu they should not have come there, but Yu disagrees.

Humans killing humans... I told you we shouldn't have come here, Yu.

–Commenting to Yu on the Demon Army murdering its own soldiers at Nagoya airport. Chapter 40, "Trumpet of the Apocalypse"

Yu asks Shinoa for orders. She issues a retreat. The survivors all request to be backup for the rear guard, but Mika says he can block chains at that speed on his own. Yu chides Mika on teamwork. When Mika asks Yu if he expects him to trust humanity after seeing them sacrifice their own soldiers like that, Yu says that he is only telling Mika to trust him.

Ch40

Fighting together at Nagoya airport

Mika, Yu, and Shiho Kimizuki block the chains coming out of one of the vans. An army of vampires arrive, cursing the insolent humans for their recent attack. The vampires and humans wage war. Guren walks onto the battlefield, sword in his hand. Yu is delighted, and the surviving Moon Demon Company members are shocked. Guren greets Yu and suddenly swings his sword at him. Mika intercepts it, surprising Yu. Guren tells Mika that he is in the way. Kureto announces to Guren that it is time to begin. Guren raises up his sword, and chains wrap around his arm as the curse consumes him. Mika tells Yu to run and says Guren has betrayed them. Yu disagrees. Shinoa also tells them to run since Guren is not acting like himself. After Guren wounds Yu, Mika carries him in his arms, and Krul is waiting for them. Although Yu is hurt, she says he will heal once he drinks her blood. She holds a hand out to Mika and says it is time they left. Mika glances back at the struggling Shinoa Squad and Narumi.

Yu tells Mika that Guren was crying, and they have to save him. Mika insists he is Yu's only family. Yu then violently awakens into his seraph form but now has two wings instead of only one. Krul says this is bad, and Mika asks how he can save Yu. The experiment continues, and the demon Abaddon is successfully manifested. Yu then awakens in his seraph mode. He defeats the demon and later stabs himself through the chest with his cursed gear.

Krul orders for Mika to retrieve Yu and for them to escape together. She is then confronted by Crowley Eusford, who tries to attack her from behind, but she's able to fend him off with ease. In her arrogance however, Ferid appears from behind and comments that her pretty neck is open, then promptly bites into her shoulder. She mouths for Mika to flee. Reluctantly, he does. Human soldiers chase Shinoa Squad and order them to hand over Yu. Mika appears and kills them. He says he will help, so they need to hurry and run. Shinoa orders them to flee.

Three months later, the group is near the sea, and Mika watches over some kids with Makoto. He reports that he is going to check in on Yu. Mika walks into a building and asks Yu how he is feeling. Yu is shown in his demon form with his wrists chained to a wall in a barren room with only a bowl by his foot.

Post-Nagoya Arc[]

Still chained to the wall, Yu reacts to Mika’s presence and demands to be released. He insists that he’ll kill all of them.

He begs Mika to remove his chains, even offering to run away with Mika and his blood. When that fails, he yells at Mika and demands he remove the chains. Mika counts to 120 seconds, and Yu's horns disappear. He mutters about turning into a demon again and greets Mika. Mika states he became a demon for two minutes longer than the day before, which he has been doing since the battle at Nagoya. Mika frets and scolds Yu for becoming something inhuman and doing irrevocable harm to himself.

Mika watches yuu

Watching Yu in his demon form.

Shinoa states it has been exactly three hours since Yu transformed and greets them. She mentions it has been three days since Mika drank any blood, but Mika tells her he never asked her to be his keeper. Yu offers his blood, but Shinoa says Yu is too weak and has a bottle containing blood from everyone for Mika to drink instead.

Shinoa examines the chains and says the wards for sealing the demon are beginning to crack, so she and Mitsuba will have to repair them again. Mika accuses her of pretending to be Yu's friend and points out that everything that has happened to Yu has been due to an experiment. Yu says that Shinoa did not get directly involved, but Mika says he cannot trust any of them. Mika asks what Guren did to Yu.

Shinoa tells them they are not themselves when they are hungry and suggests they get breakfast. She holds the bottle of blood out to Mika, but he knocks it out of her hand. Mika appears frustrated, and Yu scolds him. Mika says he is not Shinoa's pet, but Yu says that blood belongs to their friends.

A human rushes in and addresses Sergeant Shinoa, asking for her help. The Horsemen are attacking their village. With the exception of Makoto, their group fights four Horsemen. Afterwards, Makoto arrives with food he found in a supermarket two kilometers southwest.

Mika drinks Shinoa Squad's blood

Mika drinks Shinoa Squad's blood.

Mika watches the villagers eat, and Yu joins him. He returns the bottle of blood to Mika, saying that Mika does not have to drink that blood and can drink his instead, but Mika says he will drink it. He says the thirst is getting worse and is worried he might drink too much of Yu's blood. Yu asks if he is okay with something besides his blood, and Mika says that at least it was not poisoned. Mika asks if this whole "being friends" thing is part of the experiments. He says they are decent for humans but wonders if it is smart to trust them.

Shinoa brings up their future plans. Mitsuba summarizes what has been going on. She says that the Japanese Imperial Demon Army will probably hunt them down and kill them, which puts the villagers at risk. They mention they cannot travel overseas because of how acidic and poisonous the blood-red oceans are. Monsters even worse than Horsemen swim in their depths.

They suggest surrendering, and Mika rejects the idea of returning Yu to the army to prevent him from becoming a demon. Makoto tells him to keep his fangy mouth shut unless he has any other options. Yu suggests meeting up with Guren, but Shinoa vetoes that idea and says they cannot trust him. Makoto tells Mika this is the circle of discussion they are stuck in and asks if he has anything to offer. Mika asks if he owes them a favor because they gave him blood, but Shinoa says no. She says that blood was for helping a friend but says she would love to hear any suggestions if he has them.

Mika says the vampire queen, his sponsor, participated in the Seraph of the End experiments. They may be able to trust her. He says she was captured and he does not know what happened to her, but rescuing her might be their least complicated option. Makoto asks if vampires are less dangerous than the Demon Army, and Mika says yes. Vampires actually care little about humans and are only concerned by power-hungry humans.

In chapter 44, with the squad's agreement to rescue Krul Tepes before Yu becomes a full demon, Yu asks about the best way to rescue to vampire queen, which Mika says Krul was captured by Ferid. Yu recalls that Ferid is the one who split the two of them up and killed the rest of their family. Yu brings up shooting Ferid in the head four years ago, but he then realizes that a gun would not kill a vampire. He mentions that Ferid is probably still alive, but Mika points out that Yu saw him back in Shinjuku. Mika asks if Yu really did not notice Ferid at all, but Yu says he was so overwhelmed to find out that Mika was still alive that he was too busy looking at Mika to see anything else.

Don't even think it, Yu. Remember how I told you I went to Ferid's mansion alone? And you got super upset at me for it? I still regret it, every single day. I tell myself if only I'd listened to you and hadn't gone, then maybe Akane and the others would still be—

–Speaking to Yu and voicing his unease from what happened. Chapter 44, "A Drive Along Death's Shoreline"

Yu then says he hears a strange sound, to which Mika says it is a car engine, so Yoichi runs to investigate. Mika says that a human like Yu should not be able to hear that. Mika asks if the demon's possession is advancing even while Yu is awake. Yu answers that it probably is and says his senses are sharper and that he feels a little stronger. Mika is concerned that Yu is really turning into a demon, but Yu blows it off and says that he can protect everyone better if he is stronger. Mika asks what the point is if Yu loses his humanity, but Yu says Mika can hear the sound, too. Since Mika is not human, Yu says this makes them the same.

Upon Yoichi identifying Crowley and a smaller, silver-haired man, Mika assumes the silver-haired man to be Ferid. He says they captured the vampire queen. When Shinoa asks why are they coming there, Mika says he does not know but advises their group to have nothing to do with Ferid and company. As everyone runs from the village, Yu asks Mika about Ferid's strength, and Mika says he is probably the second most powerful vampire in Japan. Mika realizes Yu is thinking of something dangerous and advises him against it. He mentions going to Ferid's mansion when they were younger and says he still regrets it every day, but Yu insists it was not Mika's fault.

One chapter later, Yu and Mika observe the fight between the squad and Crowley, and the two agree that they cannot win. Mika advises escaping before they get dragged into whatever Ferid is scheming because there is nothing they can do; however, Yu wants to fight fate, explaining that because they were caught up in someone else's plot, his friends and family have died every time he ran.

Mika brings up how his planned escape attempt from Sanguinem had gotten their family killed, but Yu insists that escape gave them a future, and this time, they will be working together to make it out alive. Mika soon agrees with Yu,

Yu tells Crowley he is surrendering. Ferid then appears behind Yu and Mika and nearly drives over them. He jeers that he heard they were being attacked by a dangerous vampire, so he came to their rescue. He says he will save them if they take a ride with him, but Crowley says they already finished that part and surrendered.

Mika restraining Demon Yu

Knowing Yu's time spent as a demon is increasing

Ferid acts shocked and asks when Yu and Mika became so reasonable. Yu explains why they will cooperate, and Ferid asks if that means he will forget everything Ferid has done to them. When Yu agrees… Ferid pulls Akane’s head from his trunk and asks if Yu can say that to her face.

Yu turns into a demon, screaming that he will kill Ferid and attacks him. Yu never comes close to hitting Ferid, but he manages to slice his fancy foreign car in half. Mika grabs Yu and tells him to calm down. Yu tells Mika to let go before he kills him. He struggles against his demon, telling it to stop while he keeps muttering about killing. Yu continues to struggle against his demon, and Mika orders him to suppress it. Yu tells him to shut up and says he just needs more power. Ferid struts toward Yu and Mika, and Mika gets between them, telling him to stay away. Ferid pulls out a filled syringe and asks if Mika will give Yu that dangerous, unstable drug instead. Mika attacks him, and Crowley intervenes, keeping Mika away from Yu.

Ferid says he is cute and bites him on the neck, drinking his blood. He then stabs Yu in the back with the needle, suppressing the demon and putting Yu to sleep. Alarmed, Mika finally leaves Crowley to returns to Yu’s side. He tells Ferid he will never forgive him. Ferid mentions that he just saved Yu’s life as Yu’s blood trickles from his mouth. Mika says they are not going to be part of his plot, and Ferid asks if this is his plot.

Mika asks him what he is trying to do, why he is here, and why he has Akane’s head with him. Ferid says he says he wanted to show them how to return Akane to life. The name of the experiment: the Seraph of the End.

Mika holding Yu on the bus

Looking after Yu on the bus

Once on the bus, everyone is relieved when Yu wakes up and is okay. Mika tells him they are keeping Akane out of his sight. Shinoa says Ferid claims the Seraph of the End experiment was meant to revive the dead. Mika says to not trust him. Ferid says he has the bodies of the other orphans at his mansion, but he refuses to tell them where they are headed now.

In chapter 48, the group takes a bathroom break. In the boys' bathroom, Yu rants about Guren taunting them with information but never giving them answers. They tell Yu to quit shouting. They discuss their situation and the Seraph of the End.

They decide they must betray Ferid before he betrays them. Mika tells them they are not capable of killing him. Yu mentions that Asuramaru may be able to kill Ferid if Yu lets him take control for three seconds, but Kimizuki says demons are even worse than vampires. Shinoa mentions they cannot trust a single adult still alive.

They crouch together and whisper to come up with a signal of when to attack Ferid en masse.

Osaka Arc[]

Back on the bus, Ferid approaches Mika and advises him to get some sleep, but Mika states vampires do not sleep. Ferid teases him and asks if Krul Tepes is the one Mika wants revenge on since she turned him into a vampire, but Mika ignores it and asks where they are going. As Ferid appears to answer, Crowley slams on the breaks and sends Ferid flying through the windshield. The group then disembarks and realizes that they are at Osaka Bay with an army of foreign vampires.

In the following chapters, while the Shinoa Squad hides out on the bus, Mika remains outside to interact with some of the vampires, including Lacus and Rene, who tell Mika their plan to retake Sanguinem. When Ferid and Krul's punishments begin, Mika walks away while the other vampires continue to watch. He asks Yu what they should do now, and goes with Yu's plan to rescue Krul and Ferid.

Mika turning away from the burning

Mika doesn't want to watch Krul burn

Crowley takes the Shinoa Squad to Ferid's mansion in Osaka. Mika asks if Yu is okay, and Yu admits to feeling queasy. Yu says this place looks similar to the one in Sanguinem. Recalling how Mika gave Ferid his blood when they were growing up in Sanguinem, Yu says he should have been the one to give Ferid blood instead of Mika. Mika asks if he would rather Mika be the half-demon instead. Yu says no, and Mika says the two of them are even by now.

Mika asks Yu if he is sure he wants to save Ferid and asks if he can forgive him. Yu says Ferid could bring Akane back to life, but Mika reminds him that Ferid cannot be trusted. He says that if Guren really brought his squad back to life, then the experiment results in the destruction of the world. Mika asks what the price would be if they brought Akane back this time. He advises Yu to not be greedy and want more than what he already has, or else Yu may become a demon like Guren Ichinose.

Say we did go through with the experiment and brought Akane back to life. What would the price be this time? Would the last remnants of humanity be wiped out? Would it take the lives of your new human companions? Shinoa. Mitsuba. Kimizuki. Yoichi. Narumi. Would they all die? Would you be able to live with that? This is a quicksand trap, Yu. It's sucking you in.

–Explaining to Yu the possible pitfalls of resurrection. Chapter 52, "Suspicious Mansion"

Narumi points out that Yu is already a demon because he felt guilty about Mika becoming a vampire. Yu tells him to not pick on Mika. Narumi says Mika is not arguing with Yu from an honest stance and says that the only thing on his mind is convincing Yu to escape with him. Mika says that escaping is sometimes the better part of valor and warns them about Ferid once again.

Mika says that the dead should not be brought back to life, and the experiments he has seen are horrible.

What I'm trying to tell you is what's dead shouldn't be brought back to life! I've seen what happens when humans try. I've see with my own eyes the results of Seraph of the End experiments. They're horrible. At the end of the day, all that humanity's bottomless, all-consuming, ugly greed ever births is despair.

–His views on resurrection said to Narumi. Chapter 52, "Suspicious Mansion"

While Mika says that greed will only lead to despair, Narumi says it will lead to hope. He says this determination is what allowed humanity to grow as strong as it has. They end their spat with Mika telling Narumi to stop being stupid, Narumi telling Mika to not be blind, and Shinoa and Yoichi stepping up to them and telling them that topic is closed.

Mika apologizes and says he was just feeling uneasy. He cannot stand the thought of losing friends again because he was not smart enough to see what was coming.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to take Yu and run, I promise. I'm just... uneasy. The thought of losing friends again... because I wasn't smart enough to see what was coming...

–Honest about his intentions to Shinoa Squad regarding Yu and sharing his unease. Chapter 52, "Suspicious Mansion"

Mika warns Narumi that he will be easy for Ferid to manipulate in this place in more ways than one, and Narumi says he will keep that in mind.

Mika attacking Fuola Honte

Battling the vampire noble Fuola Honte

Moments later, vampire Tenth Progenitor Fuola Honte comes out of the mansion and attacks the squad upon sight. When fighting Fuola, Mika is questioned by the progenitor on why he is with the humans before cutting off Mika's lower arm. Yu goes in to help him and Mika warns him not to come close, but Yu is able to intercept Fuola's blow. Shinoa then uses Shikama Dōji to pull him and Yu back while Mitsuba uses Tenjiryū to retrieve Mika's arm. Fuola then tells the Shinoa Squad that he has no time to fight them as he is running from a monster which turns out to be Crowley. They watch as Crowley overpowers the Tenth Progenitor and comment on his strength. Crowley challenges the teens to fight him and they lose easily.

Crowley reveals he is really a Seventh progenitor and hid his strength under the guise of a thirteenth. He claims Ferid used a second progenitor's blood to turn Crowley. Mika comments that that proves Ferid cannot be trusted but Yu says that they already agreed to rescue him. Shinoa Squad wonders how they will beat a Fifth if they cannot beat a Seventh.

Yu gets mad at Crowley for not telling him that he too used to be human and Shinoa Squad wonders how he can be so calm around another vampire. Mika says it's because he is dumb and Kimizuki says they never thought of vampires as former humans. They all agree that vampires are raising human as livestock so humans naturally fear vampires. Narumi questions if predator and prey can really live together and Mika believes that Narumi dislikes him.

Narumi muses that there likely has not been a newborn vampire in a century, yet Mika is a rare newborn. Narumi cuts himself and questions how long Mika will see Yu as his family. He asks Mika if vampires like Ferid and Crowley still retain some humanity as Mika struggles against the urge to drink blood.

Narumi once again questions Mika's humanity and Mika says his humanity has been vanishing since he first drank Yu's blood. Mika says he can feel his emotions weakening, and because of this he does not trust Ferid or Crowley. Mika's anger towards Ferid for killing his family is also fading, yet his feelings for Yu have not changed at all.

Slowly... Little by little... My humanity is vanishing.

–Saying to the main group on how his feelings are fading. Chapter 53, "Holy Knight's Secret"

Narumi decides that means vampires can cling to a fragment of their humanity, and so alliances are possible.

Mika in his third new outfit

Third outfit

Shinoa Squad enters the mansion and Yu realizes it is time for Mika to drink blood but Mika stops him, and follows them to the kitchen to eat. While everyone is messing around, Mika asks Crowley how much time he has before his emotions completely fade. Cut to some time later when everyone is done eating, and Mika is seen in a new outfit sitting in front of a glass of blood.

Yu comes up to check on him and offers his blood in which Mika says he will drink later. Later, when Yu takes Akane's head to keep calm when entering the basement, Yu promise her that he will bring her back to life which Mika warns him that it's either impossible or will end up destroying the world and wants to keep Yu safe. Yu responds that he cares nothing about the world and is willing to destroy it to return Mika human, and bring back the rest of the children, Narumi's family, Mirai, and everyone.

Mika being there for Yu

Consoling Yu as they see the bodies of their family

Down in the basement, Yu tears up upon seeing Taichi's body, so Mika holds Yu's hand for comfort. Later on, everyone hears a noise outside the mansion, with Guren coming down the stairs some time later. Mika hangs back while most of the squad goes up to him. He along with everyone else listen to Guren's revelation that the Hīragis and the Demon Army are being used by someone else. After listening to Guren's explanation, Mika decides to kill him as he sees Guren as a threat to Yu, while also acknowledging that Yu would hate him for it. Upon Guren calling out Mika's desire to kill him and Yu covering for him, Mika cuts Yu off with an apology to him before clashing swords with Guren. When Yu tires to get Mika to stop, the blonde asks why Yu is defending Guren, which Yu answers that he is family. This shocks Mika, and leads him to slash his sword down at Yu's side without touching him.

Getting on Yu 2

Even admitting that there is "some risk" still doesn't fly

Before he could continue though, Yoichi asks if they could talk this out as he and Kimizuki stand by Guren's side with their weapons drawn. Mika asks why they are interfering, but upon Yu calling out to him, he ends his attack and demands to know why everyone is so happy to see Guren for all the deeds he has committed, even pointing out Yu sounding like he is brainwashed.

...Yu, this isn't right. How come everybody smiled to see him arrive? He's the one who destroyed the world. It's his fault that we have to live like this!

–A frustrated sense of dissonance regarding Guren's return stated to Yu. Chapter 58, "A Reason to Survive"

Ch62

Mika keeps an eye on Yu

When Guren apologizes, Mika tells him to never come near Yu again, which causes Yu to yell at him. Upon hearing Makoto's conclusion that the catastrophe would likely have happened even if Guren hadn't resurrected his friends, Mika calls the conclusion semantics, and was against everyone wanting to know Guren's agenda.

Ch63

Mika and Yu shake hands

When Guren reveals that he seeks to resurrect everyone that was killed by the virus eight years ago, Mika questions this plan, and learns that only those that have died by the apocalypse virus eight years ago would be revived. Hence, Akane and the Hyakuya orphans, who were killed four years ago by Ferid, could not be revived. Guren points to the spell tomes that can better explain this resurrection ceremony in response to the squad members points and questions relating to that qualifier, and tells everyone that they are going to have to trust him, but Mika still sees this plan as a con.

Ch64

Mika listens about himself

Guren tells him he could leave, but when it turns out that Yu is needed for the plan and Yu agrees to help Guren, Mika tries to talk Yu out of doing this, as he fears being separated from him again, to no success and ends up agreeing to be there for Yu. Later on, Mika overhears Yu and Guren talk about the former getting stronger by becoming and controlling the seraph despite the risks it would have on Yu's heart and body. The blond makes himself known when Yu tries to keep this a secret from him, saying he sees no point for Yu doing this after knowing the risks. Mika learns from Guren Yu will be using medicaments for this training, and became annoyed at Guren's response about the side effects of the medicament that he asked Yu if he could rip Guren's head off. He follows the two outside in the courtyard and watches as Yu injects himself with the drug to begin his training to control the seraph.

Three days later, Mika listens to Guren's review of the plan to rescue Ferid and Krul from Ky Luc, where he will act as a decoy with the rest of the squads and Crowley so that Yu can kill the fifth progenitor as the seraph. The group was able to save Ferid in the end while Ky was able to get away with Krul, so Mika goes over to check on Yu followed by Shinoa squad.

Later on, Mika goes with everyone to Guren's home in Nagoya so that Yu can recover in the basement. Mika waits outside the container Yu is in, and Yu soon awakens after four days. Mika tells him that he collapsed and his heart stopped, but Guren saved him. Mika says that he still doesn't trust Guren due to everything he's done, and still shows disapproval of Yu turning into the seraph. The two walk through the basement that was used as the place for human experimentation, and Mika questions Yu on Guren still being a good guy for experimenting on their family.

When Mika and Yu go outside, he hears Yu's words that he will return all the children. Mika hesitates a little at first, but then shakes Yu's hand. Guren approaches the two of them and the three go to the basement. Guren asks who they are, since the names of both of them are Hyakuya. He shows Mika and Yu another seraph. Yu tells Mika that they will go to him together, but Mika is pushed away by the barrier. Mika starts asking Guren what he is doing, but Guren asks him who he is. Mika remembers how Saitō brought him and the others to the orphanage. He asks Guren if he knows Saitō, but Ferid appears and interrupts them. Later, Ferid says that among them there is another seraph and points to Mika. He asks if Mika is Saitō's new angel, but Mika cannot answer who he is. Later, Mika, together with a squad, fights against 6th trumpet. After defeating him, Mika picks up the sinful key, but Ferid demands to give it back. When Mika refuses, Ferid teases him.

Shibuya Arc[]

Ch70

Drinking blood from Yu's wrist

After that, he and the others travel to Shibuya. He joins Yu on the roof of the car and says that he himself does not know why he went with everyone, calling himself an idiot. When the squad wants to join them, Mika is not happy, although Yu says otherwise. He later drinks Yu's blood from his hand and blushes as they come to Shibuya. When Yu senses that there are enemies nearby, Mika fights alongside him. They enter the building together. Mika asks Shinoa about who she is, and then, after Shinoa leaves, says that the place is incredibly dangerous.

Ch71

His lack of heartbeat checked

They go to Yu's room and Mika notices that it is empty. He hears that Yu was only thinking about revenge. He tells Yu that the vampire's heart is not beating and Yu puts his hand on Mika's chest to listen to this. Mika again hears Yu talking about the resurrection of Akane and the children, and asks if the end justifies the means, but Yu replies positively. Mika agrees to Yu's plan and they attack the soldiers. Tied up, Mika and Yu are brought to Kureto. Mika does not want to speak out loud about Yu's plans and is ashamed of his behavior. He later joins everyone when Shinoa begins to become a vampire.

Ch74

Realizing that Shinoa is becoming a vampire

With Shinoa taken away to try and stop her from transforming into a vampire, Mika is nearby as Yu shares details on what he knows of Shikama Dōji. Mika taps Yu from behind and advises him not to hand out information like that for free to Kureto. He tugs Yu’s clothing as Yu continues to openly divulge information with Shinoa’s safety at stake, to no avail. As Yu continues to spill that he and Asuramaru do not remember anything, Mika shouts his name as Yu offers himself up for examination if the memories can help save Shinoa.[17]

Mika remains calm and does not outwardly react as Yu is taken by Kureto’s men being robbed of his freedom and declared their experiment. Taking a moment to consider his options he watches Yu being taken away and assesses his course: to abandon Shinoa and save Yu, or another option.[18]

Ch77-8

Stopped from following Yu

Head bowed in thought, Mika trails behind Yu as he is escorted away. He contemplates that it is hard to believe but somehow Yu has memories of the first. He pauses to look to the side finding it incredible that the first has awoken so many times and even though he has not met him he can somehow tell that he is the source of the curse that made him into a vampire and concludes it’s a monster. Distracted further, he realizes that Ferid may have just went down, bad since it means the first could fully awake. With that Mika reasons Shinoa Hīragi is a lost cause, worse that with the entire Hīragi family having been possessed by the first for centuries, Mika considers it possible that they have all been deliberately led here, and that everyone present may in fact be the first’s puppet. With what has happened and may happen it is more dire than even Mika thought and his consideration is to get Yu and get out of this place.[19]

This is the worst. The whole Hīragi family has been possessed by the first for centuries. Isn’t it possible that we’ve all been deliberately led here? And if the first has possessed this family, then wouldn’t everyone here be his puppet…? This is worse than I thought. I have to get Yu and get out of here!

–Pondering their situation during the relative calmness. Chapter 77, "Rescue for the Devil", page 5

His plans are disturbed as Mika is tapped on the shoulder by Guren’s sword. He makes the excuse that he is going to the bathroom, and that he won’t let another puppet of the first use Yu when Guren says he is not taking him. Mika does not believe that Guren is trying to help Yu, saying he knows exactly what type of man Guren is. Not replying to his question of where he could go, Mika thinks he has a point and is not sure that he can get Yu away from the first for good. He asks if he wants Guren to trust him and motions that he should before suddenly drawing his sword swinging it into Gurens. Mika does not care that he is alone, he evades Shinya who tries to ambush him from behind with his rifle before being floored and disarmed by Kureto’s extensive lightning attack.

Ch77-19

Overcome by Guren, Shinya and Kureto to illustrate his limits without allies

On the ground, Mika says it isn’t fair before hearing that without Yu, he has no allies and being alone makes him an easy picking.[20] He cannot join them when Guren offers, not believing they are not puppets. Mika listens to them arrange battle plans for the first before noticing Ferid. He and the others are told to run as Shinoa joins and attacks them all with many scythes.[21]

Ch81

Searching for Yu with Shibuya being assailed

With Shibuya under attack by the Hyakuya Sect, Mika runs alone through the streets before looking up to see explosions and a whirling halo of scythes near the top of a building. Wondering what is going on, he then dismisses it as a concern deciding he has to find Yu first. He tells himself to concentrate, hone his senses and search for him.[22] Blinking, through some means Mika succeeds in locating Yu and leaps across apartment blocks towards him.[23] In his search he wonders where Yu is, and arriving on top of a building he finds him restrained and being transported below.

Ch82

Sensing Noya's awakening

At that point, Mika whirls around and asks what was that.[24] Returning his attention to Yu, Mika watches and considers how he can save him from the guards around. He does not react well to seeing Guren there even after he dispatched Yu's kidnappers.[25] Observing, he wonders that is the correct answer and course of action here.[26]

Chapter 85 - Page 25 - Panel 2

Located by Mahiru

Witnessing Guren bind Yu's mouth results in Mika stating that he knew he was the enemy, but considers whether he has the power to save Yu. Glancing round to see who has answered his question for him, Mika swings his sword into Mahiru's upon being found by her. Asking who he is, he does not respond to her assertion that she is everybody's favorite lovely idol.

Chapter 85 - Page 29 - Panel 1

Cutting through spell tags

Evading her attack, Mika notes she is too slow and he can beat her. His sword misses to his distress, before he finds and dodges Mahiru's strike near his neck. Mika is then subject to multiple spell tag explosions and whilst he can just about avoid them, there is no time for any counter moves. Jumping off the building, he leaves this battle, forgets her and resolves to save Yu.[27] Slicing through Yu's bindings, Mika frees and calls to him[28] standing beside Yu battle ready.[29]

Chapter 86 - Page 14 - Panel 2

Having rescued Yu and opposite Guren

With Noya and Guren as a demon opposite him, Mika wonders if he and Yu can even get away from this. Whilst not certain, he replies to Yu that he knows the situation is really bad and to stay on his toes. Stern, Mika incredulously seizes Yu demanding to know in what world did what they just saw make Guren look anything like an ally.[30]

Chapter 86 - Page 17 - Panel 1

Attempting a different way of reasoning with Yu

Changing tactics, Mika happily praises Yu as being absolutely right that Guren has always been on their side. Explaining that Guren let his demon possess him in order to protect them, he is now in big trouble. Mika invents a perfect foolproof plan that involves running away to meet up with the others.[31]

Aware that Noya has conjured two spectral katanas, Mika's plan to run is interfered with the arrival of Mahiru and he warns Yu not to listen to her since she is trouble.[32] Checking Yu when he appears pained by memories, Mika tries to convince him that Mahiru is tricking him.

Chapter 86 - Page 30 - Panel 2

Smiling as Yu says he is his reason to live

Mika smiles after Yu takes his arm and announces him as his reason to live. After holding his arm in turn,[33] Mika defends from Guren's sword strike.[34] With some difficulty in blocking it, the impact sweeps him off his feet and he calls to Yu to stay close, that they cannot be separated. Mika takes Yu's hand in time to ensure that they both crash land in the same vicinity. Asking if Yu can stand, Mika decides they need to run now.[35]

Chapter 87 - Page 13

Enduring Guren's attack aimed at Yu

He is remembered by Noya before Mika is running away from this foe. Aware at their speed that they will be caught, he thinks to find a place to hide.[36] With the first scenario occurring, Mika uses himself to shield Yu from Guren's sword. Struck across his back, Mika shouts for Yu to jump backwards as hard as he can and is taken with Yu as he escapes through the other side of a building.[37]

Carried in Yu's arms with his back in a great deal of pain from the cursed gear, Mika tells Yu to forget about the wound healing and hide since if Guren catches them he will kill them. Bleeding, he voices to Yu that it is bad and he is gasping for blood. Feeling if he can drink some he could get some strength back, Mika complies with Yu's suggestion to drink whilst Yu continues searching for a hiding place. Mika likes Yu's blood so much that he has to be pushed off yet they have made their way to the inside of a building. Replying that Yu's blood tastes dangerously good, Mika says he is sorry for drinking to that extent. His back has healed though he is concerned about Yu feeling drained. Wary of Yu drawing on demon power, Mika watches as Yu does that out of necessity[38] then witnesses Yu turn into a demon.[39]

Chapter 88 - Page 3 - Panel 1-3

Concern over the sudden appearance of demon horns

Concerned whilst watching Yu scream,[40] Mika bafflingly asks whether he realizes that he just grew horns. Asking if he is okay, Mika questions whether he is going to go berserk. Appearing panicked when Yu falls over in his demonic rage and clutching his head, Mika then remarks on Yu vanishing where with his speed he could not even see where he went.

Chapter 88 - Page 5 - Panel 2

Discovering where Yu disappeared to

Mika finds him, in the ceiling with just his legs poking though.[41] Checking if he can communicate, Mika urgently thinks how they can escape with Yu in his demonic state. Feeling it is impossible, Mika tries to pull Yu out. Hearing a crash, Mika sees that Guren has caught up to them already. Stating they have to go now, Mika thinks Guren is not wrong that he does not stand a chance of getting himself and Yu away from him, and turns to Yu that he said he would run away with him.[42]

Chapter 88 - Page 22 - Panel 2

Pulled up to the next floor

Keeping an eye on them, Mika sees Noya return to Guren's sword and says to Yu for them to get out of here. Finding he is gone from the ceiling, Mika is pulled up to the next floor by Yu. Addressed as "Michaela", he questions the person before him who he is. Hearing that half is in control, Mika asks who is speaking and hears it is Ashera Tepes and connects the surname as he thinks of Krul Tepes when he was a child.[43]

With Guren smashing through a wall near them, Mika queries whether he can trust that Ashera is helping Yu. He is visualized as a child in Sanguinem with Yu as he is called family, and presently smiles warmly. Feeling that matters are looking up, Mika thinks with himself and Yu he is sure they can pull this off as he orders his sword to drink deep.[44] Beside Yu, he faces Guren sword drawn.[45]

Chapter 89 - Page 10 - Panel 1

Resisting the effects of a spell tag

Ready[46] Mika asks if Yu got him after he fired a heavy attack on Guren. A spell tag that Yu's attack connected with rips and Mika asks where Guren went before having a spell tag placed on his shoulder by him. Reacting to the binding energy, Mika shouts that they have not lost yet. Ordering his sword to spit his blood out, Mika then uses his hand to stop a needle from being stabbed into Yu's neck.[47]

Chapter 89 - Page 14 - Panel 2

Biting into Guren to drain him

Shouting for Yu as he is stabbed by Mahiru-no-Yo, and then hit with the syringe, Mika considers how resisting is not working. Seeing Yu's consciousness is back, Mika makes use of biting and draining Guren of his blood. Willing him to die, Mika is struck in the head with the hilt of Guren's sword and hurled into the wall.

Chapter 89 - Page 16 - Panel 2

Meaning to kill Guren

Incandescent, Mika has his sword drink more, if he is going to kill Guren he requires more power. With thorn branches wrapping around him, Mika wants his weapon to suck up every last drop of his life and spit it back into Guren's face.[48]

Chapter 89 - Page 19 - Panel 1

His attack ready, Mika reassures Yu

With thorns encircling him, Mika thinks Guren is much to dangerous to Yu and he has to kill Guren here and now. Looking to Yu, he says for him not to worry, that he will keep him safe. Slashed across the chest, Mika's sacrifice sends a large sweeping arc strong enough to rip the tops of buildings off.[49]

Sword. Drink my blood. Drink more. More! This isn't enough. If I'm going to kill him, I need more power."

–Mika's resolve to kill Guren who is attacking him and Yu. Chapter 89, "Vampire's End", page 16

Chapter 90 - Page 9 - Panel 2

Having expended too much blood

He has been cut where his upper torso falls below[50] and Mika is held by Yu on the ground. At first unresponsive, markings appear on Mika's face as he struggles to speak. With with his wound seeping a heavy amount of blood, Mika has expended too much of it.[51] He is continued to be held by Yu as Krul arrives[52] before shouting out as an increasingly amount of shadowy strands float out from him, and Mika rises into the air.[53] Mika's life force has vanished[54] and his declaration to keep Yu safe is remembered by Asuramaru, as well as his time as a child by Yu.[55]

Chapter 90 - Page 32 - Mika

Shadows pour out of Mika's body

Ascending vertically, Mika is able to discern Yu and asks him not to cry. He can see Shinoa and Mitsuba some distance away and knows that Yu will be fine. Mika closes his eyes and tells Yu that he loves him, before an explosion occurs.

Post-Shibuya Arc[]

It is recalled that when Mika went to bite Guren he had a substance injected into his hand.[57]

Chapter 92 - Page 34 - Panel 2

An arm reaches out from a portal on Mika's face

In the midst of the explosion there is an black flat oval shape where Mika's face should be. A beating sound is heard and and a right handed arm reaches through the portal on Mika's face. This is vampire Mika having died who is now transforming into a black demon according to Guren.[58]

Mika is his child self in casual clothing and sat within a field that has flowers around and a cloudy sky above. After being unresponsive with his eyes open Mika wonders where he is.[59] Told he was drooling by young Yu next to him, Mika asks whether he was sleeping. Mika hears they were up late last night playing Othello together. Puzzled by Yu mentioning going home and the kids, Mika observes Akane with children playing nearby. He picks up on Akane mentioning demons.

As a child with Yu with other family members around

Feeling weird, for a second Mika had the feeling that he a super-awful nightmare. Thinking if all the terrible things that happened were a nightmare, Mika fondly details his nightmare as he takes Yu's hands. Saying there were monsters everywhere, Mika jokes they were more like ghosts. Describing it as the scariest nightmare ever, Mika tells Yu not to worry, he will make sure to wet Yu's bed not his before laughing.[60]

Happy they are all heading home together

Calling to the others Mika says it is time to go home, they are having curry for dinner tonight. Mika corrects Yu's claim that he made it by replying Yu just cut the potatoes. Hearing from Akane that he was asleep for what had to be two hours, Mika questions Yu whether he was really asleep for that long and appears unsure. This is replaced with contentment as he sees his family walking back together. Mika can hardly believe this and thinks he is so unbelievably happy right now. Everyone is here and Mika notes Yu specifically is here.[61]

Wow... I can hardly believe this. I'm so unbelievably happy right now. Everyone's here. Yu is here.

Living together

Serving food, Mika joins Yu in saying thanks for it. As he eats Mika wonders how is this even possible, he can barely process how happy it all makes him. Mika has a question for Yu, namely what happened to the director again. With the Yu sat next to him puzzled by the question it dawns on Mika and as he thought so it was too good to be true. Continuing to eat anyway, Mika replies nothing is wrong and he is fine. With a child wanting to play cards after dinner Mika listens as Yu explains that they are going to bed early tonight since he and Mika were playing Othello late last night. When bathing then brushing their teeth Mika looks to Yu and whilst happy Mika thinks of what all of it is.[62]

Oh. Right. I thought so. It was too good to be true.

Commenting on how Yu has changed

As the family sleeps Mika lays in his futon staring upwards. Once Yu enters the room Mika asks is this not the greatest. Everyone is here and for all Yu's complaints on how tiring he finds it Mika tells him he does look after everyone really well. He is way different than when they first met and Mika continues by making a face to illustrate what Yu looked like back then. Mika teases how Yu thought he was a demon who cannot be anyone's friend and not be family with anybody, that he was crying and whining all the time. Yet now Mika feels Yu is like the mom of their whole family. With Yu questioning why he has to be the mom, Mika questions he wants to be the dad instead and adds "hi, papa!" At any rate Mika continues that it is the greatest ever that they are all together with everyone alive and healthy.[63]

Yu and Mika - Chapter 93 - Page 25

Listening as Yu shares he feels the same way

Concerning Yu, Mika fondly mentions him here too still complaining and saying all the stupidest things. The matter turns to them being together, smiling every day and growing up. Soon they will be fifteen then twenty and whilst some of them may go their separate ways Mika and Yu will always stick together. Eventually they will turn thirty and Mika says by the time they are a hundred they will probably be dead but focuses on them being able to look back. Mika asks if they can say they had a full life being considerate to everybody then would that not be a nice way to go. Checking if Yu thinks that, Mika replies that nothing has gotten into him it is just that he was thinking how really happy he is that Mika could cry. Asking whether Yu means it when he voices the same, Mika listens as Yu explains Mika as a source of his happiness and reacts as if he is regarding the heartfelt shared feelings as feigned insincerity.[64]

Yu and Mika - Chapter 93 - Page 27 - Panel 3

Skeptical about the claims

Questioning what will come true when Yu says it, hearing that they will turn two hundred Mika replies that are not going to live that long, they are only human. He is skeptical of Yu's claim that if them being together is his greatest happiness then it will come true. After Yu affirms that he will make them stay just like this for even longer, Mika points out that if they cannot live for a hundred years then they definitely not living a thousand. Commenting that stupid Yu strikes again after he suggests that it can be done with a thousand push-ups every day, Mika says he cannot solve everything with that.[65]

Comforted on his inner fears

Mika's hands are taken by Yu and he is told he does not have to be scared anymore. Told that Yu is here and always will be, Mika asks if he is not going to leave him and whether nobody will die. With Yu eagerly asking Mika to want to be here forever, Mika says he does not have to tell him that is his greatest desire. Mika knows this is what he wants most from the bottom of his heart.

Tearfully aware it is a perfect dream

Tearfully, Mika blurts out that this is a dream. Questioning how Yu is going to make it true, Mika shouts how when everyone died. Saying he could not protect them, Mika states he even left Yu himself behind right when he was on the verge of becoming a demon. Mika feels he failed, took weak and useless where he could not save anyone.[66]

You don't have to tell me that. I know that this is what I want the most. I know from the bottom of my heart.

Being a demon will allow him to stay yet seraph wings appear

Hugged by him, Mika hears how Yu will always be here so he will be fine. Saying he is tired Mika listens as Yu explains they can be together forever. That is possible here. As a black mold like substance spreads over Mika's pajama top from Yu's hands that are holding his waist, Mika hears from the speaker if he really does want to stay he could choose to become a demon who devours human desires. Mika is silent as six seraph like wings appear from his back.[67]

Within the sky the electrical shadowy mass around Mika has blotted out the sun. As the arm continues to reach out of his mouth,[68] another one joins it.[69] A hand directs itself but Mika does not react to Yu calling him[70] yet the hand continues to reach for Yu as Krul takes him away and a great cry is emitted.[71] From his mouth a child with horns emerges.[72] Standing near a winding shimmering road a demon who resembles Mika in a black cloak comments how this world is so bright. Thirsty and with his right arm disappearing the demon knows it must find a human they can possess and devour their desires.[73]

Ch98

Mika and Yu's illusion before bed

At some point in the illusionary world Mika comments to Yu how everyone is finally asleep then happily replies how he is beat. He questions if 'Yu' is not tired at all then answers that he is a little hungry before agreeing to cup noodles time. Mika and the Yu he is with are observed by a separate entity, the demon resembling him.[74] Whilst eating with the Yu he laughs unaware that demon Mika is stood behind him.[75] Mika is happy laughing with Yu[76] before expressing shock at Asuramaru suddenly thudding into their home. After asking who he is is, Mika watches nervously as he hears that Asuramaru intends to murder his family then rip their hearts to shreds.[77]

Seeing Asuramaru

In response to Asuramaru he shouts for Yu to run and pushes him out of the room before telling him to get the kids outside. With his attention on Asuramaru he retrieves a kitchen knife and charges to stab him in the chest. Pushing Asuramaru over, Mika then stabs him repeatedly and calls for him to die. Hearing that his fear can be seen, Mika orders the monster to shut up. Mika is visualized amongst his deceased family with Yu holding Akane as Asuramaru speaks that his deepest fear is that he is too weak to protect his family.[78]

Stabbing Asuramaru with a knife

No longer stabbing Asuramaru, he is greatly agitated at the allegation and falls backwards. Mika asks if he did kill them and whether they are dead because of him. Hearing that his deepest desire is to have someone blame him for that, Mika is told that this shall be re-created where he shall kill his family again here and now. With his arms taken, Mika is walked along the corridor by Asuramaru as he says for him to stop. As he is informed that these last eight years he has desperately wanted to excoriate himself as the one who killed his family, Mika tearfully orders Asuramaru to stop.[79]

A shadow of Mika with horns is seen before Mika himself finds his family as he holds the knife. Told once again he is going to kill them with his own hands, Mika's hand raises the knife. Absolutely certain that he does not want to kill them, Mika asks for someone to please save him and calls for Yu.[80]

Nooo!! I don't wanna! Stop! I don't want to kill them! I don't! Someone... ...Please help... No... No! No no no! My body won't stop! Nooooooooo!! Help! Please! Help me! Yu!! Help!!

–Trying stop himself and calling Yu for help. Chapter 101, "My Desire", page 11-13

Ch101(6)

Calling for Yu

The children lay still as Mika stabs into someone. He then turns to Yu and plunges the knife into his chest. Once Yu says that Mika did it, he agrees that it is his fault. Saying sorry, Mika states that he always fails and can never save anyone.[81]

Yes! I did! It's my fault! All my fault! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I always fall! I can never save anyone!

–Pressured into blaming himself after an illusionary Yu's words accuse him of being responsible for the orphan's deaths. Chapter 101, "My Desire", page 33

In the physical world, Mika's sword is in the centre of a now activated spell circle.[82] It is gripped by Yu[83] which allows him to enter the world where Mika is.

When Yu has fended off Asuramaru, who with Kiseki-o and Gekkouin were attacking Demon Mika, he awakens in a version of Nagoya with a red sky where Mika found Yu again and first drank his blood. It is recalled how Mika embraced Yu before becoming a complete vampire.[84] Mika's sword is used by Demon Mika who Yu sees as him.

Chapter 104 - page 39 - 40

Teen human Mika inside Yu's heart

Appearing as a human teenager, Mika is walking on a circle of light with light particles floating down upon him. He is wearing a T-shirt and trousers. Regarding his hand and saying 'what' Mika asks aloud where he is and what is this place to Yu. Looking up, Mika registers a single large eye staring down at him.[85] Asking what in the world is it, Mika feels it is weird in that the eye seems kind. Addressing it, Mika questions on how he seems to it, that it does not see him as an enemy. Approaching and asking what the eye is to Yu, he wonders why it is inside of him. Saying that he is going to touch it, Mika wants to look inside. Asking if the eye is ready, Mika's hand shimmers as he reaches towards it.[86]

Observing a room with a clear box in the centre, surrounded by fluid filled, glass like storage tanks, Mika finds he cannot move. Wondering where he is and what is this room, Mika sees dozens of what he calls that weird eyeball and considers is that machine making them. With Yu entering the room, Mika notes he looks like a child.[87] Observing Yu interact with a vampire with long hair and another vampire, he is surprised to see one of the eyeballs be formed into a whole new child Yu. Registering the eye that he is in, Mika can view its perspective, but does not appear to have anything to hear the conversation taking place.[88] The eye Mika is seeing from is turned into Yu. Regarding a hand that the Yu he is in is looking at, and realizing it is Yu's hand, Mika comprehends right now he is Yu.[89]

The Yu he is in does not speak so is not killed, and with the viewpoint kept, Mika wonders what the hell is this. Questions are when is this memory from, and who these two are. Mika then sees an entourage of demons enter the room, with Raimeiki and Byakkomaru speaking.[90] Observing and wondering who are they, with Kiseki-o and Raimeiki there as well, Mika feels they seem strangely familiar. On Sika Madu in the middle, Mika knows he is bad news. Finding that he can be seen by Sika Madu, and shocked by this, Mika shouts he has to wake up now and needs to get out of here.[91]

As a child in the place of Yu, Mika falls first to the ground, then finds he is falling away. Aware that he is being spoken to, Mika calls for Yu. Hearing if they work together they can get away, Mika focuses on Yu and resists Sika Madu's efforts to have him sleep. Hearing Yu speaking that he will devour him, and Mika will devour Yu, that will let Mika become Yu's demon. With Sika Madu shouting for him to sleep, Mika speaks he will become Yu's demon.[92] Under an electrical based pressure, Mika finds he cannot stay awake. While he does react to Yu's voice[93] he apparently does not know that a human child form of him is being observed sleeping by the First,[94] and does not respond to Kimizuki and Yoichi's arrival.[95]

Yu and Mika Deal

Demon Mika's new form

Having spent time as a child demon without any memories, demon Mika made a contract to become Yu's demon and assumed a teenage demon form of himself where they fended off Sika Madu. During this fight, demon Mika devoured a ton of Yu's desires for strength where a lot of memories were eaten too. The memory of himself pushing Yu to escape from Sanguinem is remembered. Being a demon, Mika can access Yu's memories and feelings, as well as his own now. Recalling that he felt it was his fault this happened, Mika wanted Yu to escape. Reacting to this, Mika finds his memories returned, where he is no longer a demon acting as a demon does, but is himself as a demon.[96]

Ooh! Ooh ooh! Woooaahh!! It's like memories in stereo! I have both my memories and yours!

–Reacting to his memories returning, describing what it is like to have two sets of memories, one from someone else, and sharing his own are back. Chapter 109: "Moving Pieces", page 5-6

Sharing that it is like memories in stereo, Mika says his has Yu's memories as well as his own. Considering how he really does have both,[97] Mika checks a memory of Yu as a child training with Guren. He looks to Yu who is speaking with Yoichi and Kimizuki. Thinking how all those years Yu suffered, feeling alone and abandoned, Mika ascertains his savior was Guren Ichinose. Seeing that is what he means to Yu, now that he has eaten his memories, Mika gets why he trusts Guren so much but wonders whether trusting him is wise.[98]

Asked if he can manifest outside, Mika answers probably. With Yu meaning for them to head back as everyone is waiting for them, Mika has something to say. Honestly stating how he is kind of mad at him, Mika raises how after Yu left Sanguinem he tried to die a bunch of times. Having indeed peeked into his memories, Mika affirms what Yu did is totally unacceptable. If Yu had died, Mika questions what would have been the point of him throwing his life away to save him. Getting that Yu did not find it easy, Mika says to still not do that. When Yu is happy everything worked out, Mika raises how it was because of Guren.[99]

Ch109-32

Mika and Yu promise to protect each other

While Mika guesses he will have to thank Guren as now both he and Yu found each other again, inwardly, Mika bets Guren has an ulterior motive for the rescue. Considering Guren and Mahiru, he feels it would not be done out of the goodness of his heart. Also regarding the angels and what is up with them, Mika further thinks what were those monster blob things that he could see as a demon in Yu's memory.[100]

I guess I'll have to thank him for that much, at least. Thanks to him... ...The two of us found each other again.

–Telling Yu he is thankful to Guren, yet to himself Mika thinks "Guren did save you... ...But I bet he has an ulterior motive. He wouldn't do it purely out of the goodness of his heart." Chapter 109: "Moving Pieces", page 21-22

Speculating that the answers are probably somewhere in Yu's memories, Mika guesses sometime soon the two of them are going to have to go digging through them. Walking beside Yu then promising he will protect him, Mika extends his hand to Yu's.[101]

The answers... ...Are probably somewhere in Yu's memories. I guess sometime soon... ...The two of us are going to have to go digging through them.

–Feeling answers regarding the seraphs and black suns may be Yu's memories, and meaning for the both of them to check them. Chapter 109: "Moving Pieces", page 23

Ch109-49

Returning to the physical world

In the physical world where Mika's sword is, he materializes as a demon before members of the team. When Yu thanks Shinoa for helping to save him, Mika considers the display. After Guren announces it is good they are back, Mika glares at him, silently.[102]

Ch110-9

Noticing that he can look at the sun

Stood looking upwards at the sun, Mika feels it is so strange. Thinking how he is out in the sun, Mika finds he can also look right at it. Engrossed, Mika then registers that he was just addressed as "Mika-poo" by Yu. Responding with what the heck, after being asked what he is thinking of, Mikas answers nothing, he just realized he could look at the sun. When Yu tries the same and reacts to the brightness, Mika orders him to not look directly at it.[103]

This feels so strange. I'm out in the sun. I can look right at it.

–Where he was a vampire who experienced detrimental effects from the sun, as a demon Mika considers his new state of being. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 8

When Yu discusses how when Mika was a vampire he could not look at the sun, but now as a demon he can, Mika guesses that it probably what it is. Speaking how more and more of his memories as a vampire are coming back, in response to Yu asking did he not get them all back at once, Mika clarifies how he got some of Yu's memories after he devoured some of his desires. From that, Mika got his memories and some of Yu's memories, but they are all muddled together in this big mess inside his head. Explaining that if he does not concentrate and single out a specific memory, Mika finds it is really hard for him to tell what's what.[104]

Asked if he can read Yu's mind now, Mika considers the question before feeling probably, if he concentrated. After mentioning that Yu's desires are his food after all, Mika is asked to say what Yu is thinking right now, and agrees to look at his thoughts. Looking ahead, Mika can see a corridor and can view a memory concerning Yu and himself on either side of a closed door. After witnessing the toilet related memory of them as children, Mika asks Yu what did he just show him.[105]

Where Yu is thrilled that he really can see into his head, Mika details he is not 'seeing' so much as he is eating Yu's desires and they come along with it, even when they are dumb crappy desires like that one. Mika is not pleased when Yu responds that technically he was the one taking a crap. While Yu is eager to try another memory, Mika does not want to see any more dumb memories. Assured this memory is awesome, Mika agrees to try but can only make out static. Sharing that he cannot see anything, Mika hears it is the same with Asuramaru, where nothing can be seen if Yu makes the walls around his heart really high. Getting it, Mika sees so that is how it works.[106]

As Yu details further how when he wants power Mika is given desire which connects them, Mika continues because of that he can see everything. When Yu speaks how if he overdid it with Asuramaru then he risked possession, Mika states at once he will not possess Yu. While Yu does not care, Mika is firm he is still not doing it. Paying attention to Yu saying that they can work together on a whole new level now, and they should try stuff and figure out what way works best, Mika appears satisfied with that. Telling Yu it is a fair point, Mika adds for once he is actually taking things seriously, yet is not so certain of Yu's words that he is a grown-up now and all.[107]

Observing Yu tend to Shinoa who ingested poison, Mika considers how Yu's friends saved him, and Guren Ichinose helped too. Heading over to place his hand over Yu, and thinking to himself, Mika wonders how did Yu meet Guren. Whatever his plan is, Mika imagines it is big, and one that has been in the works for years. Even if he asked him, Mika doubts he would tell him. Glancing over to Guren who is with Mahiru nearby, Mika wonders why he is doing this.[108]

Yu's friends saved him. Guren Ichinose helped too. I wonder. How did Yu meet Guren? Whatever plan this is, it's big. One that's been in the works for years. Even if I ask him, I doubt he'll tell me. I'll just have to investigate. Build a hypothesis off what I find... ...And try to stay one step ahead of them.

–Thoughts that led to Mika checking Yu's memory to try and ascertain Guren's plan, and contemplating its development, then thinking to prepare for it. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 21-22

Accessing the memory of when Yu as a child escaped Sanguinem and met Guren who was with Sayuri and Shigure, standing within the scenario, Mika observes it with the addition of many black suns floating in the sky. Focusing on the matter of that day, that time, and place, Mika reflects on how Guren was waiting for Yu, so wonders who let him know he was coming. Speaking to go a little farther back, Mika stands in the memory of Yu about to shoot Ferid within the exit hall of the city.[109]

That day. That time. That place. Guren was waiting for Yu. But who let him know Yu was coming? Let's go a little farther back.

–Viewing the memory of Yu meeting Guren and picking up someone must have informed him. Speaking for him to go back allows Mika to instantly access a previously occurring memory. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 24

Placing his hand over the memory of Yu as a child after saying his name, Mika then glares at the memory of Ferid. Looking back now, Mika can tell that Ferid could have easily dodged that. Contemplating Ferid's actions and fearful appearing face, Mika sees this was all an act. Staring intently, Mika ponders why, and how is Ferid connected to Guren.[110]

Speaking to move forward, all the way up to his memories, Mika faces the scenario of Krul talking to himself as a child after he had been seriously injured. Listing Guren, Ferid, and Krul, and noting how they were in the same place at the same time, Mika contemplates further how for some reason they got involved with himself and Yu. Thinking why, Mika wonders whose plan is this. Talking to the memory of Krul, he asks if it is hers, before thinking or someone else's. Considering whether he has missed something, Mika wonders is there some other clue buried somewhere in his memories.[111]

Guren. Ferid. Krul. They were in the same place at the same time, and for some reason got involved with me and Yu. But, why? Whose plan is this? Yours, Krul? Or someone else's? Have I missed something? Is there some other clue... ...Buried somewhere in my memories?

–Piecing together what he notes, and asking the unresponsive memory of Krul if she is involved, then considering it may be someone else. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 27

Ch110-43

Finding Mahiru-no-Yo in the Sanguinem memory

His attention drawn to the shadows in the Sanguinem exit hall,[112] Mika finds Mahiru standing near the wall. Registering her prescence and questioning whether she was there too, Mika notes where she is looking and remarks it is like she is staring right at him. Judging this place a nightmare, Mika comments they are surrounded by too many crafty bastards and wonders if he will be able to protect Yu.[113]

Ugh... This place is a nightmare. We're surrounded by too many crafty bastards. Will I be able to protect Yu?

–Looking up to the ceiling of the exit hall of Sanguinem in a memory, with no definite answers on who is involved in a plan unfurling around him. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 30

Hearing his name spoken, where a hand is in front of his face, Mika finds he has been physically tapped away by Krul. Sent away by the impact behind it, from his place on the ground, Mika questions if Krul had to do that. While Krul professes it is good to see him well, she intends to check how powerful he has become, and Mika engages in a brief physical clash with her.[114]

On the ground again, Mika asks Krul what she is getting at when told she is still more powerful than him. Praised for surviving the First with the level of his strength he had, Mika questions if that was supposed to somehow count as a compliment. Informed it was since he is of her clan, Mika addresses that and asks does that mean Krul loves him. Asserting that if she did love him, then to tell him something with no secrets, Mika questions what Krul really wants. Hearing it is her brother Ashera, he speaks the name Asuramaru when told that is what he knows him as.[115]

Turning to an incoming truck,[116] Mika stands near Mitsuba and Yoichi as they are ordered by Guren to get in the vehicle with Ferid who has found them. Destined to move to a location where no one can touch them, when guided to relax by Guren, he thinks that is not happening. Collecting his thoughts that all the shadow players are coming together, Mika takes his place by Yu while thinking he has to be there to protect him.[117]

Relax? Around you? Not happening. All the shadow players are coming together. I have to be there to protect Yu.

–Thoughts on not trusting Guren, and noting that he, Krul, Ferid, and Mahiru are around them, while remaining unwaveringly dedicated to defending Yu. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 36-37

Having noticed Shinoa behind him, Mika listens as he is cautioned to not trust anyone, stay wary and protect Yu. Additionally, Mika is warned to be careful of her sister, with Shinoa remarking that she is dangerous.[118] Realizing that Mahiru has approached, Mika is asked whether he has seen her in the past. Questioned if he can see memories from before this Yu was born, Mika asks who Mahiru is. Along with Yu, how many tens of thousands of years Mika has lived is going to be figured out.[119]

Akihabara Arc[]

In the back of a truck being driven by Ferid, as Yu interacts with others, Mika sits observing before reacting to something he can sense. Regarding Krul, with Guren and Mahiru before him, after being grinned at by Mahiru he speaks Yu's name. Changing to thinking of his name as he moves to communing with him in their sphere, ahead in a cloudy like landscape Mika sees Yu then shouts for him to answer.[120]

Ch111-6

Reminding Yu what situation they are in right now

Asked what is wrong, Mika raises what is he doing, where now is not the time to be having a fun chat with friends. Questioned if he wants to join in too, Mika frustratingly responds that is not it. Addressing whether Yu even realizes the situation they are in, where they are going to Ferid's place, Mika questions Yu what they are to do there. With Yu not knowing, Mika says for him to think before he details how Guren, Mahiru, Ferid, and Krul are in cahoots and have been for years. Explaining when Guren rescued Yu, he did it for a reason, Mika then shares that they have some kind of grand plan and they are taking advantage of them to make it work. Before they let themselves be used, Mika says to Yu they need to investigate and find out what that plan is.[121]

Think, Yu! Guren. Mahiru. Ferid. Krul. They're in cahoots! They have been for years! When Guren rescued you... ...he did it for a reason. They have some kind of grand plan... ...and they're taking advantage of us to make it work. Before we let them use us... ...we need to investigate... ...and find out what that plan is.

–Sharing concerns with Yu and meaning to prepare for what is likely ahead. Chapter 111 "Yu & Guren", page 6-7

With Yu seemingly understanding, Mika addresses the good plan Yu mentioned he had. Asking what it is, Mika is told to wait and see. Returning to be conscious in the back of the truck, Mika considers the conversation Yu has commenced with Guren. After Yu bluntly asks Guren upfront what this plan plan he has in the works is, Mika appears exasperated while raising how Yu is just going to ask flat out. Listening as Yu speaks how he is grateful to Guren, Mika stares in the latter's direction as the conversation continues.[122] Mika reacts when Guren confirms Yu's question that he is using him.[123]

Ch111-19

Giving Yu power when he means to fight Guren

When Guren falters after being asked if he was involved in Ferid's action of murdering his and Yu's family, Mika is called for power where the intent is to destroy the truck they are on and leave. Calling Yu's name, Mika complies at once by placing his hand on the ground to emit electrical lines of light. Powering the sword Yu is using, the light shimmers around him and the sword he is in as Guren with Mahiru are fought, where the weapons clash with one another. Called to slice 'em open, a generation of lightning surges from the blade.[124]

The sword clashes further with Guren's, before Mika within it along with Yu are flung out the truck. Where the blade is in the side of the building to hold Yu there, Mika's eye can appear in the sword guard where he warns they cannot clash blades with him. Revealing that his sword is doing something, Mika states whenever they clash, she injects poison into him. After Yu comments that is why he is feeling sluggish, Mika responds that he is neutralizing the poison now, but he thinks if they clash four more times they will be slowed down enough and Guren will be faster. The scene of Yu holding onto the sword with Mika there is viewed by Guren.[125]

Spoken to by Yu, and asking him what it is, after he speaks of his excitement, Mika is questioned whether he can feel it. Floating within a realm, Mika answers Yu he can feel it, then states how it is a powerful desire, to make Guren respect him. Informed he has yet to beat Guren even once, Mika addresses how Yu likes him. With Yu saying he does, Mika can see he wants Guren's respect.[126]

Ch111-43

Powered by desire, resolving to make Yu win

It is when Yu declares that he wants to surpass Guren does Mika appear astonished. With electricity flowing around his self in his sphere, and outside the sword, Mika reacts to what is a strong desire. Sharing how he is devouring that desire right now, Mika affirms to Yu that they can do this, and he will make him win. The sword secured in the sheath, Mika within the weapon descends with Yu to the ground where the intent is to win in one hit, without a clash of blades.[127]

Re-engaging Guren and Mahiru, a strand of electricity appears when the "Flicker... Mikaela" power is spoken, where Mika can help create a stream of light to blast across the cityscape. The lightning remains around the sword as Yu draws close to Guren.[128] The power provided allows Yu to evade Guren's strike and then cut across him with the sword.[129] When it is a spell tag that falls apart, Mika speaks how it is an illusion. With the sword used to block Guren's weapon, Mika reacts. From his location, Mika finds he is affected by a shadowy mark spreading across his face.[130]

Ch112-6

Poisoned by Mahiru's attack

Calling to Yu, he warns the poison is way more intense than before. If they clash a second time, Mika states they will be done. The sword Mika is within rattles when there is no contact.[131] His name called for power, Mika provides it where a shadowy mist appears around Yu's hand, before a jagged mass of light shoots outwards around them.[132]

When Yu needs to beat Guren so that he will lean on him, Mika silently considers his words.[133] Where Yu is told he has won against Guren, the question of whether he killed his family is asked. After Guren confirms that he did, from the sword Mika looks upwards to check on Yu as he speaks his name.[134] While Yu decides to forgive Guren for their murders because he is also family, Mika's own feelings on their loss are not considered. His opinion not sought, Mika has no say in the squad's collective decision to support Guren, before they are to head on the road with Ferid driving.

Chapter 113 Page 18 & 19

Addressing the devastation of the world

In the back of the vehicle once more, Mika witnesses Yu's impression of Guren when he stated the truth would be told.[135] Observing Kimizuki's anger that they have kept quiet this whole time even though they do not know anything,[136] after Guren mentions he will bring their families back, Mika alone asks what the price is. Bringing the dead back to life has a cost, and Mika details how when Guren brought his friends back, he caused the catastrophe.[137]

But what's the price? Bringing the dead back to life has a cost. When you brought your friends back... ...You caused the catastrophe. The state of the whole world right now... ...Can be laid at your feet.

–Responding to Guren's claim that he can restore the deceased. Chapter 113: "Everyone's Secrets", page 17-19

Continuing that the state of the whole world right now can be laid at Guren's feet, Mika does not respond to the claim that he will bring Akane back and the rest of his orphan family too. Instead, where Yu is keen on the idea, Mika speaks his name for him to think about the matter. Finding Yu's hand on his shoulder, Mika allows Yu to discuss the topic further.[138] When Shinoa details how Guren rescued her and Mahiru from Shikama Doji's millennia old plan, Mika listens.[139]

Chapter 113 Page 35 - Panels 4-7

Called to join the family ceremony

As Yu affirms what they did in the past to survive is fine because they are family, Mika is called to agree. Realizing Yu wants him to join in the hand circle as well, Mika speaks did they not just get done with this whole team circle thingy. With Yu encouraging them to do it as many times as it takes, Mika considers it[140] and keeps his hand in as Yu affirms they are family.[141]

After Yu declares so what if this was all some mega-plot by Shikama Doji, and they are all going to fight for their family, Mika states for them to get back on topic. Detailing how breaking a taboo will result in divine retribution, Mika continues to summarize that the seraph of the end is a weapon that controls and directs that retribution. Raising if they find some way to control the seraphs, Mika suggests that should mean it is possible to break taboo and resurrect people without a price. Enquiring whether this is correct, Mika hears from Guren it is not so convenient. Watching as Guren mentions how they want to bring their families back, Mika learns that resurrecting the dead is a curse, where they will wind up cursed like Guren.[142] Mika keeps his hand in the circle as Yu seeks details on what is involved.[143]

Ch114-42

Asking Krul about her and then Ferid's interests

The undisclosed destination they arrive at is revealed to be the Akihabara building, whey they are the head underground. Before entering, with Krul ahead, Mika asks whether she came along with them because she and Guren had a mutual interest. Hearing yes, Mika then enquires about Ferid, on whether Krul and Guren have some kind of deal with him. Informed she does not know, with it suggested since Ferid is here he must have a deal with Guren, another question Mika has is whether Krul's interests align with theres.[144]

Questioned by Krul whether he would want to live forever so badly that he would be willing to sacrifice his family, Mika answers no. Told then their goal is the same, Mika stands as Krul walks away. Taking an elevator down to the fifteenth underground floor, where everyone is cramped in, Mika is near the wall beside Yu.[145]

Ch114-54

Shocked to hear that he is not human, but the child of Shika Madu

Within a huge spacious room filled with coffins, Mika's name is scrawled on the ground under an arrow pointing him to a direction.[146] Having followed it with Yu, he stands before the coffins containing everyone in their Hyakuya orphanage family, which he regards in silence. Turning to listen to Guren detail how there is in fact three prices to pay for resurrection, the first is one person from those who are involved with setting off the spell will be cursed with eternal life. Seven sinful keys are needed, and thirdly Mika hears that the lives of every last vampire must be offered in sacrifice, where these collectively can bring back all the humans who died.[147]

When Guren details how Yu might be a problem, Mika appears unnerved to learn that he himself is supposedly is not human, but is Shika Madu's son. Accordingly, the price to resurrect Mika is the same as what is takes to bring back all of humanity. Initially speechless that it comes down to Yu deciding whether to resurrect everyone's family, or himself alone, with the ultimatum to choose now, Mika speaks Yu's name.[148]

Ch114-62

Surprised Yu intends to fight

Further pressure comes from Yu being told he will be an enemy to them all if he chooses Mika alone, yet Mika contently tells him that he is okay. From the options to have him restored, or all of humanity, Mika says to Yu for them to bring back Akane and the kids.

Yu. I'm okay. Let's bring Akane and the kids...

–With the option of his own or humanity's restoration. Chapter 114 "Everyone's Goals", page 38

Suddenly called to be Yu's sword, Mika is startled at this development.[149] Where Guren has ordered everyone to restrain Yu, he is ready as a sword.[150] Taken with Yu who leaps away some distance,[151] Mika speaks his name from the weapon. Guiding him to calm down, Mika assures him he is fine. Urging Yu to think, he mentions Akane and the other kids. Attempting to have Yu concentrate, Mika raises everything Guren did to get this far.[152]

Yu. Calm down. I'm fine. You don't have to-

–Attempting to calm Yu after he has drawn his sword against the squad. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 5-6

Contacting him in their sphere, Mika nears Yu who has his back turned. Where he does not speak, Mika calls for him to stop this, and attempts to deter Yu's conduct by mentioning how he is swamped in ugly desires right now and he cannot eat those.[153]

With no response, Mika shouts for Yu to quit trying to run away and think. Raising who it is that Yu is facing right now, Mika adds who is it he is pointing his sword at. Visualizing the closeness of the squad, Mika tells Yu they are his family.[154]

Who is it you're facing right now? Who is it you're pointing your sword at?! They're your family!

–Reminding Yu that he is acting hostile to his squad. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 9-10

When Yu shouts that he is his family too, Mika affirms of course he is. Stating that he is already dead however, Mika answers Yu that he cannot have everything when he mentioned wanting to bring him back. Noting the numbers are too different, Mika frames it as just him versus all of humanity.[155]

The numbers are too different. Just me, versus all of humanity...

–Supporting the resurrection of humanity instead of only himself changed from a demon to a human. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 12

Regarding Yu after he shouts he does not care about humanity, Mika raises does that mean he is okay with abandoning Akane. With Yu considering the matter, Mika continues to ask whether he is okay with abandoning all the kids who died. Remembered as a child in Sanguinem with his family members, Mika speaks to Yu how he is willing to bring him back, but give up on Akane and the kids. Adding that he cannot see him being able to live with that, Mika says he knows Yu understands.[156]

Bringing Guren into the conversation to try and sway him, Mika details Yu knows how he went through hell to get this far. Stating that Guren's enemy is the First himself, Mika mentions that he has to have made a lot of hard, ugly choices. Today, it is Yu's turn to make a hard choice. Seeing that Yu has begun crying, Mika hears he cannot just give up on him.[157]

Affirming that he can, Mika states Yu can make this choice. Remembered as children, Mika questions whether Yu does not remember their promise. How Yu was going to do a million push-ups, get really, really strong, then kill all the blood-suckers, and save their family.[158]

Back then, Mika says he was full of dreams. In speaking as long as he had his family, Mika amends what he is saying by specifying so long as he had Yu, he thought he could do anything. Happy while sharing this, Mika then feels they failed, and it was his fault too that everyone died. Sharing his deepest concern, Mika explains to Yu how living after that hurts too much.[159]

Reiterating that living hurt, Mika voices it was his fault that their family died but he survived. Walking towards Yu and placing his hand on his shoulder, Mika says what he wants is for Yu to save his heart. With that, Mika requests that Yu please bring back Akane and the kids. Offering his hand, Mika says for them to do this together.[160]

Yu...? What I want is for you to save my heart. So please. Let's bring Akane and the kids back. Together. Okay?

–Both an effective means of dealing with his feelings of guilt, and for Yu's sake, he requests they act together. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 20-21

Saying sorry when Yu feels that this is not fair, Mika is additionally sorry to put him through this. After Yu speaks how he wishes he died instead, Mika responds for him to not worry, everyone dies eventually yet then they will get to be together in heaven. When Yu questions where is heaven, Mika laughs and answers he is not sure.[161]

Holding out his hand for Yu to take, Mika says for them to go. Guiding him to make the right choice, in Mika's view it is for them to both save their family together. Since Yu is tearful and cannot muster a response, Mika assures him it will be okay, all will be fine. Mika says they will be together forever which appears to settle Yu.[162]

C'mon. Let's go. Make the right choice. Let's both save our family together.

–Settled on his choice, Mika attempts to guide Yu to do the same. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 23-24

Patient in awaiting what Yu has to say, Mika is content to hear that he will do it and choose. With Yu mentioning how he cannot make Guren do all the hard stuff, Mika agrees with the notion. Presenting his hand, Mika states for him and Yu to do this together. Shaking hands, Mika is pleased with this outcome where they will resurrect Akane, their orphanage family members, and the rest of humanity. Fine with missing the chance to be restored from a demon into a human, Mika did not even desire this, less so given that the whole of humanity being restored instead was an available option.[163]

Registering that he was just asked to devour Yu's desires, and hearing he has made his decision, Mika is alarmed. Telling Yu to hold on, Mika states he cannot do that. With Yu needing all the power ever, and calling for the demon power to go totally wild, Mika is shocked as he calls Yu's name, trying to no avail to discourage this course of action.[164]

If Mika is attempting to contact Yu, his words or any other actions do not prevent Yu from bolting as a demon. The sword Mika is in defends Yu from Gekkouin's bow fire fired by Yoichi. His name is invoked to slice it open when Ferid appears from one of Kiseki-o's coffins as Kimizuki takes action against Yu. The sword is stabbed into the ground for Yu to duck under strikes from Crowley and Guren. After Yu is caught and flung into the ground by Krul, the sword remains with him. Mika is asked for more power by Yu who develops a second demon horn.[165] Unlikely providing it, demon power appears from the handle of the weapon as Yu seeks more of it.[166]

As Yu interacts with Asuramaru in his realm, it is mentioned how Yu's heart cannot be read through the interference. Where Mika's demon power has been taken in, this seems the interference preventing Asuramaru from examining Yu. Mika is referred to when Asuramaru states the demon with Yu is against this too.[167] His sword is held by Yu as he attempts to devour Asuramaru.[168] After Asuramaru cuts Yu's arm off, Mika is called upon as Mikaela by demon Yu to regenerate that. Obliging, Mika has Yu's left arm recreated in Asuramaru's realm. His name is spoken when Asuramaru tells Yu he only wants to save Mikaela rather than everyone.[169] Brought into his plan, Mika is mentioned when Yu says he will devour Asuramaru's desires and make Mikaela eat them too. When Asuramaru states from the start Yu has only ever had eyes for Mikaela, his name is called by Yu for the sword to manifest.[170] The sword is held as Yu realizes a substance has been injected into him.[171] Mika is threatened by Asuramaru who says he will kill Yu and him if he must. After Yu says he can save Krul, he is told to go off and save Mikaela.[172]

In combat, the sword protects Yu from Asuramaru's strikes. Invoked in response to the Asura Kannon... Million Blades ability, Mika's power involves lightning which allows Yu to out-speed the onslaught of blades. Called upon to slice it open once more, Mika enables Yu to cut Asuramaru apart with the sword.[173] With Yu's desire being devoured, a thunderous surge separates him from Asuramaru. The wound on Yu's neck is said by Asuramaru to not be healing as Mikaela is refusing to do it since he wants Yu to lose. According to Asuramaru, who is not above mind games, and in a fierce battle he needs to win, Mikaela wants to die. In Yu's mind, Mika is not being given up on.[174]

After Yu has consumed Asuramaru he appears when the former is healed. Silent, Mika then looks to Yu. Asked whether he ate, Mika does respond before answering that indeed he is mad at Yu when that question comes. Having been mad this whole time, Mika asks did Yu not hear. In response to Yu happily stating he did, Mika states he is going to kick his butt.[175]

Turning to what he has surmised, Mika addresses whether Yu is going to betray everyone and bring him back to life even though that is not what he wants.[176]

So. You're going to betray everyone... ...And bring me back to life? Even though that's not what I want?

–Not reading his thoughts but asking Yu what his goal is now, and disliking it if it is what he thinks it is. Chapter 118: "I Hear Voices" page 33

An additional concern Mika has is that Yu is going to blindly trundle along doing everything Shikama Doji tells him to. Hearing that Yu is going to do what he says, Mika questions whether he has a path he wishes to take then. Curious as to what he is thinking, Mika hears that Yu only wants to protect his family from this world. Asked to help him with it, Mika gives the matter some thought and while he does not look too keen he shakes Yu's hand.[177]

Having escaped some distance from the Akihabara facility, Mika takes to following Yu as he climbs a radio tower. Calling his name, Mika asks whether Yu is listening to him. His question on how high Yu is planning to go goes unanswered, and Mika would also like to know why he is climbing this anyway. Asking whether Yu has heard the saying that fools and smoke rise to high places, Mika judges that now is not the time to stand out.[178]

After Yu reaches the top and marvels at how awesome it is, Mika is told to look. Asking at what, and wondering if it the scenery, Mika feels Yu sounds so dumb right now for remarking how high up they are. After Yu claims this is seriously so awesome and for him to come, Mika replies that he already established that part. Speaking how this is Tokyo Tower, and how it is over one thousand feet tall, Mika comments that is a lot to climb. When Yu is impressed at his knowledge and he is asked whether he likes Tokyo Tower that much, Mika answers no, that is common knowledge.[179]

Unsure whether everybody must have liked Tokyo Tower as Yu feels, Mika takes the final leap to reach to top of the structure. Beside Yu and observing the landscape, Mika then states maybe people did like it. Speaking how it was pretty famous, Mika details that it was once Japan's tallest communications tower. Conceding that it is an amazing view, Mika mentions how the view of the buildings below is the world where everyone used to live before everything was destroyed.[180]

So. Yu. You know we're being chased. Why climb all the way up this thing?

–Attempting to understand why Yu is climbing Tokyo Tower. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 9

Raising with Yu how he knows they are being chased, Mika wonders why climb all the way up this thing. Bewildered that Yu is standing on the top since it makes him the tallest person ever, Mika observes his joy at being here. Startled that Yu has slipped, Mika reaches for his hand before finding he is falling to the ground. Calling his name in alarm, Mika realizes it is not like the fall will kill him with the acknowledgement that neither of them are human anymore. To himself, Mika wonders did Yu have to climb up here if he was just going to fall right away.[181]

Landing on the ground, Mika sees Yu is alive when he mentions that. Sarcastically clapping when Yu declares victory over Tokyo Tower, he states that is a "listen to me" look. When Yu states he has looked this way for a good two hundred years now, Mika jokes how it has been that long. Attempting to gain an answer, Mika asks Yu why he climbed to the top of Tokyo Tower since they cannot afford to stick out right now. After Yu says who would not want to climb the tallest thing around, Mika states he is just dumb then, before asking what the real reason is. Questioning what Yu was looking at, Mika further wonders who the everyone is that Yu mentioned.[182]

Listening as Yu says he was viewing the catastrophe and everyone who died in it, Mika is silent as Yu shares thoughts that this whole time he was only ever thinking about his family. Contemplating his hand being taken by him and told that he was the one Yu had to save, after other family members who took him are mentioned, Mika feels the same. Saying that if Yu is happy then that is all he needs, Mika changes to having a handshake with Yu.[183]

Affirming that Yu's happiness is his own happiness, Mika then cautions him to not go getting greedy. Speaking that Guren is trustworthy enough, Mika advises Yu to leave it to him. Adding that Guren likes him, Mika then addresses that Shinoa girl and whether Yu remembers what she said at the end. Yoichi, then Mitsuba, and Kimizuki are also mentioned where Mika tells Yu that at the end they all said they they loved him. They begged him not to go, and Mika says that Yu must have heard that. Where Yu did hear, Mika raises how this is how he answers them and is he sure this is what he wants.[184]

Stepping towards Yu when asked what if it were him, what would he have done, Mika returns the question what would Yu have done if he were in his shoes. After Yu says he will not give in, Mika taps him. Damning it, Mika orders Yu to go. He already turned his back on him and left once, so Mika tells Yu to keep going and live. It is recalled that as children Mika pushed Yu away so that he could escape the vampire city. Presently, Mika yells that as long as Yu is alive then he can build a new family, that is the simple truth. That Shinoa girl likes Yu, and Mika tells him to learn to like her back. Make a new family with her is the guidance, and Mika adds for Yu to have kids, smile, and live.[185]

No, dammit! Go! You already turned your back on me and left once! So keep going! Live! As long as you're alive, you can build a new family! That's the simple truth! That Shinoa girl likes you! Learn to like her back! Make a new family with her! Have kids! Smile! Live!

–Ordering Yu to leave him and return to his squad where Mika feels that is best for his happiness. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 20-21

On the topic, Mika commands Yu to stop his stupid obsession with him already. Against him clinging to the past, Mika tells Yu is is over and it all ended that day. Where Mika is remembered as being left mortally wounded while Yu escaped, he states that day Yu chose to leave him behind and start a new life. Having gotten all of that off his chest, Mika awaits Yu's response.[186]

When Yu asks how he can start a new life if he is not in it, Mika is angered and striking Yu he asks how many times does he have to tell him, it is over. Struck in turn, Mika seizes Yu and head butts him to the ground. Shouting for him to give up, Mika is struck again, before repeating his command to give up. Over Yu, he states he will give up, and to please do so. As Yu lies in silence, Mika damns it. Asking why, Mika says aloud how nothing ever goes his way. His whole life, nothing has ever worked out.[187]

Speaking how he is his demon, Mika states how he eats his desires, and can feel how strongly Yu does not want to give up. After Yu says sorry for leaving him behind, Mika replies that is what he wanted. Pleading for Yu to give up on him, Mika wants him to live his own life. When Yu says he does not have a big reason for him to live, Mika says for him to live anyway. Mika adds everybody struggles their hardest to live. Hearing Yu out that he considered suicide everyday, Mika listens as Yu turns to how he stayed alive and got him back. Mika hears that telling Yu to abandon him is like telling him to die.[188]

Then what are you going to do? Sacrifice the world to bring me back to life? Exactly like the First wants you to?

–A question for Yu and thoughts on the possible path ahead. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 31

Wondering what he is going to do then, Mika raises is Yu going to sacrifice the world to bring him back to life exactly as the First wants him to do. Flicked in the forehead, Mika is surprised at Yu saying he is the smart one so he should use his brain. Listening as Yu details how they have never actually thought for themselves, having only done what Guren or the First told them to do, Mika hears them described as amazing for making choices never mind the cost. When Yu asks whether he heard Asuramaru how the First abandoned him, Mika confirms he heard. As Yu explains how the First is willing to do anything to bring him back to life, and what he is doing to enact that, Mika reacts to the considerations.[189]

Contemplative as Yu details they they have made no choices, rather are kids, pieces in somebody else's game, for where they stand, who they help or betray, Mika is asked what they have to do. Before, Mika addresses how Yu said he had a plan and asks him what is it. Registering Yu say that he has no plan, Mika questions is he kidding him. Hearing Yu say the two of them are still stuck in those days, Mika is told he still thought his hardest and came up with a plan to escape the vampires when they had far less powers than they do now.[190]

What would we have to do to win? Hm... Even if you don't have a plan, you've got ideas. Right?

–Tasked by Yu of forming their plan, Mika seeks ideas they could try. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 38

Called smart by Yu, and hearing if he put his mind to it then he can come up with a plan that will get them both out alive this time, Mika gives it some thought. Wondering if Yu's plan was to dump it all in his lap, Mika then asks what would they have to do to win. Even if Yu does not have a plan, Mika is curious whether he has ideas. Learning that Yu wants to bring everybody back including himself, Mika feels there is the idiot. Neither Guren nor the First can pull that off, and Mika asks if Yu thinks he can.[191]

Cheerful, Mika checks if he really has to go through this when Yu refers to the dumb people and smoke rising to high places. Getting an answer that Yu climbed to the top of the tower to see everybody they are going to save, Mika checks if Yu wants him to think up how. After Yu confirms that, and feels it has got to be easier than getting kids away from vampires, Mika comments that he makes it sound easy. Reacting to Yu say if they try yet it does not work, in which case they will both just die, Mika processes if everything really did end back on that day, then what is wrong with dying.[192]

Summarized that they will save everyone or die together, a same goal they decided way back then, Mika hears Yu has zero intent to live on his own. Accordingly, Mika is asked to use his smarts to come up with a plan that will let them win. Visualized heading to the city exit, Mika and Yu as children with their orphanage family are seen happy. After a moment in the present, Mika says okay. Saying for them to do it, Mika will come up with something. Mika fist bumps with Yu.[193]

Okay. Let's do it. I'll come up with something.

–Okay with Yu's plan to help restore everybody. Chapter 119: "Our Goals" page 43

Outside a convenience store, Mika tries to think. Called to by Yu, he is surprised there was a can of food left. Happy, Mika feels that is great and now they will not have to attack any demon army villages for supplies for a bit. After Yu states it is still edible, Mika replies it is good to hear. Asked if he wants some, Mika declines and says he is fine eating his desires, so is okay with Yu eating it all.[194]

Questioned whether he has come up with any ideas to save everybody, Mika asks if Yu is really dumping this whole thing on him. Checking if Yu is not going to think at all, Mika requests that he help him think. Discussing how they have to get a grasp of the situation, Mika agrees there is so much they do not know about themselves.[195]

For some reason Yu can remember old memories where Mika's corpse was seen, and in response he does not know whether the angelic being was him. When Yu guesses the first thing they need to do is check his memories, Mika shuts down the idea at this point. Going into the past apparently takes a lot of power. Having been trying to catch glimpses for a while, Mika explains that the further back he goes the more of Yu's desires he has to devour.[196]

Although Yu offers his desires to eat, Mika states what he has now is not enough and he barely gets any energy out of them. Needing way more, Mika says Yu needs to let his powers run way more berserk. When Yu wonders whether he should think lewd thoughts as desires for him, Mika considers the path forward. Sharing what he feels the case is, Mika observes the energy from that one can clearly was not enough, he does not think Yu has got enough life force. After Yu figures since he devoured Asuramaru he gets far hungrier now, Mika sees he is burning twice the desires after all.[197]

In response to Yu asking now what, Mika holds up two fingers. First, Mika explains they need to look through their old memories but to do that they need somewhere to hide where neither Guren nor the vampires can find them. Also needing the energy to do the searching, Mika states for that they will need to secure a large volume of food. First they secure food supplies and then Mika says they leave Tokyo.[198]

It looks like we've got two things to do, then. We need to look through our old memories. But to do that... ...We need somewhere we can hide where neither Guren nor the vampires can find. We also need the energy to do the searching. For that we'll need to secure a large volume of food. First we secure food supplies, and then we leave Tokyo.

–Laying out his and Yu's overall plan, and the initial steps to reach it. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 11

Questioned if they should attack a town, Mika answers yes namely their food stores. The biggest towns nearby are Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and Shinjuku yet while they will be heavily guarded, Mika affirms they do not have a choice. Now that they have a course of action he suggests they get on it where they need to move fast.[199] His name is mentioned by Shinoa when the squad are discussing his and Yu's whereabouts. Mika is seemingly regarded as a demon affecting Yu's decisions, where Shinoa means to kill him if that can get Yu back.[200]

Continuing his discussion with Yu, on second thought Mika believes they should probably hit multiple smaller civilian settlements instead. Reasoning that they will have fewer guards, they will not have to kill as many. When Yu raises how civilians will starve should their supplies be taken, Mika questions does he want to quit. Claiming to be okay with that, Mika speaks on Yu going back to Guren and the others.[201]

After Yu states he will do it, and if the civilians starve they can be revived later, Mika addresses if they fail he would have effectively murdered them. Mika checks whether Yu is okay with that. Considering Yu's words on him willing to become a demon or even the devil himself for his family's sake, Mika then hears he is coming too. Speaking how he is already a demon, Mika then simultaneously says with Yu for them to let's do it.[202]

Four kilometres North of Ikebukuro, at the Naka-Itabashi station settlement, Mika is beside Yu who drives an army jeep towards the people gathered there. On Yu's cue, Mika is ready to take the wheel.[203] Their plan underway to acquire food supplies, Mika awaits in the driver's seat as settlers in the area place supplies into the truck. After Yu is done speaking with a boy there, Mika calls him to say they have loaded plenty of food and for them to go to the next settlement.[204]

Yu! They've loaded plenty of food. Let's go to the next settlement!

–Acting on their intent to ransack human settlements for food supplies for Yu. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 28

Sensing some rising light based energies behind him, Mika reacts how their location has been ascertained already. A discussion is had on whether they really have to hit a storehouse. They cannot stay in Ikebukuro, in fact all the towns are out now. Mika feels they will have to take what they have got now and run where he is wary that their pursuers have already caught up. As Guren arrives, Mika warns Yu that he is aiming for the food.[205]

His name is invoked for the sword Yu wields to guard the truck. Damning it, Mika sees that Gekkouin has been fired by Yoichi towards the vehicle. Able to deflect the projectiles, Mika alerts Yu that he has to take Guren down or they will never get away otherwise. The power he can supply to Yu allows the sword to cast off a shimmering light.[206]

Startled at Yu being struck from behind by Mitsuba and Kimizuki, he is able to grab him and pull him from further harms' way as Shinoa uses a spell tag to detonate the truck. Leaping upwards into the air, Mika brings Yu with him and states they have to go.[207]

Finding Guren blocking his path with a boy as a human shield, Mika damns the situation and descends to the ground. When Yu speaks how he could have had a chance if he killed Guren through the kid, Mika considers his words. Noticing Shinoa approach, Mika warns Yu that they are trapped. Sat back to back with Yu, the inactivity is broken when it is revealed that this is a spell tag illusion.[208]

As explosions occur at food storehouses in Ikebukuro, Mika leaps his way past enemies. Called to by Yu that the ruse is up, Mika drives a different truck and directs him in and to eat something. Going, Mika drives the vehicle away. When Yu shares he is full, Mika can sense his desires. Wondering if they will come after them, the conversation is that if they do they are to just kill them. The desires as strong as ever, Mika speaks how there is no turning back now. Having had to kill over twenty soldiers to get this food, Mika feels they have no choice but to succeed and bring them all back. Apologies are given, yet the matter turns to being ready.[209]

There's no turning back now. I had to kill over 20 soldiers to get this food. We've got no choice but to succeed and bring them all back.

–Feeling it may be a point of no return, Mika is emboldened further to succeed in his and Yu's plan. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 39

Mount Fuji Arc[]

As Yu drives a different vehicle through a town like location, Mika is in the passenger seat and looking ahead asks where they are going. Addressing how it is a secret as Yu said, then told to look forward to it, Mika replies that he is looking forward to it, literally. Mika states it is looming right in front of them where there is Mt. Fuji in the distance. Praised for figuring it out already, Mika questions what is there to figure out, it is stupidly obvious.[210]

With Yu amazed at how big it is, Mika mentions for him to use his inside voice. Knowing that Mt. Fuji is the biggest in Japan when Yu shares the fact, Mika mentions how he does realize that. Reminding him that right now they cannot afford to draw attention to themselves, Mika wonders if Yu appreciates that, then has a question on what is it with him and climbing high places. Where Yu just wants to climb it, after he asks wouldn't anybody want to, Mika answers he sure doesn't.[211]

The Sea of Trees at the base of Mt. Fuji is mentioned by Yu as being a good hiding place, which Mika acknowledges there is that. After asking is that a good hiding spot, when Yu reveals how Guren said something about the magnetic fields in the area, in addition to spells being affected, Mika comments it sounds like Yu does not remember a thing. Concluding that hiding in the forest sounds good, Mika points out they need time if they are going to pull that off.[212]

Well, hiding in the forest sounds good. We need time if we're going to pull that off.

–Entering the Sea of Trees around Mt. Fuji to gain time for memory delving. Chapter 121: "Last Dawn" page 5

Stopping at the Mt. Fuji 5th Line Station Entrance, it dawns on Mika on what Yu is planning. Accusing Yu of clearly trying to climb the whole mountain, after having this confirmed, Mika announces he would not want to do such a thing when asked who wouldn't want to try. Questioning does Yu even remember the situation they are in, Mika is shocked in asking who would climb it right now. Viewing Yu head onwards, Mika checks if he is seriously doing it. Asking if he is kidding, Mika questions why even bother.[213]

In response to Yu saying it would be more memorable, Mika asks why the hell do they need memories of climbing Mt. Fuji. It is when Yu speaks that they are about to start a battle that might just get them both killed, so why not make some last memories, that Mika understands. With the overall circumstances sinking in, Mika speaks the "last memories" words said. Seemingly pensive, Mika has few words to share. Even after Yu says for them to have a blast climbing Mt. Fuji he seems downhearted.[214]

After Yu says to smile, at seeing how happy he is, Mika agrees and returns his high five. Walking up the marked Mt. Fuji trail together, Mika reaches a point with Yu where they sit together on top of a rock formation. Together, Mika speaks happily with Yu.[215]

Viewing a sight, Mika agrees with Yu's appraisal and adds it is pretty. Before the Mt. Fuji Summit Sengen Shrine, Mika asks Yu who does he pray to at this one. When Yu answers god, probably, Mika wonders which one. Where Yu does not have a clue, but knows it is not the First, having an idea, Mika says for them to pray to the First's enemies. Doing so, Mika completes the namu part of the prayer.[216]

Seeing Yu leap on top of the Shinto shrine, Mika asks whether he is sure jumping up on that is not sacrilegious. After Yu points out they have already been hit with all kinds of divine punishment so what does it matter, Mika guesses that is like him, always optimistic. After Yu says they are going to do this, Mika sees he has a point, they cannot get any more cursed than they already are.[217]

Invited to come on up since the view is awesome, Mika agrees to do so. Jumping up, Mika then sits beside Yu and observes the sky before them. Seeing it, Mika agrees he is glad they came now. Mika adds that he got to see Yu happy after all. Gussing it has been a while since they had some fun, Mika is happy to tell Yu he has a point after he says if they have got to live they might as well have fun.[218]

Listening as Yu details how they are going to save the world while having fun, Mika then hears him say he is staying up here until the dawn is seen. Wondering if he is serious, Mika asks whether Yu is kidding. At ease speaking with him, Mika and Yu indeed remain together as night falls and the rising dawn appears.[219]

Beside Yu as the morning sun appears in the sky ahead, Mika views the dawn. Mika speaks to Yu that he does not thinks he will ever forget this scenery that they looked at together for the rest of his life. When Yu states they are going to win this fight and live so long they will totally forget today, Mika appears unsure what to make of the words.[220]

Yu? I don't think... ...I will ever forget this scenary... ...We looked at together for the rest of my life.

–Having sat beside Yu and watched the sun rise from the height of Mt. Fuji. Chapter 121: "Last Dawn" page 24

With Yu mentioning they will bring everybody back to life and have so much fun they will completely forget all the bad stuff they went through, Mika appears content. While Mika says sure, he adds if they can. When Yu asserts he knows they can, Mika agrees more. Observing Yu stand, from where he is sat Mika joins him in triumphantly raising his fist in the air and agrees they are going to do this.[221]

Having moved to a secluded lone cabin within the Sea of Trees, inside Mika watches Yu who is preparing himself. Asking if he is ready and hearing yes, Mika is prepared too.[222] Placing his hand on Yu's chest, Mika joins him in closing his eyes as they mean to go to the past.[223] Near him, Mika details how he is going inside Yu for them to take a look into his past and here he goes.[224]

Okay. I'm going inside, Yu. Let's take a look at your past.

–Readying them both to access past memories. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 1

Vanishing before Yu as he enters his memories, Mika opens his eyes and processes that he is in an ancient setting. In the memory, Mika appears as he did as a human child in modern clothing. From the ancient Greece like scenery, Mika wonders what era this is.[225]

Noticing him approach, Mika greets Yu and asks why he is a kid. Questioned in turn why he himself is one, Mika considers the matter and comes to feel that apparently being kid-sized uses less energy. Mika also senses what he refers to as some weird desire in Yu to go back to when he were a kid too.[226]

Asked where they are, after Yu voices this has to be really far in the past, Mika comments for him to make it sound like it is not his problem. Addressing how it is Yu's memory, Mika wonders if it is ringing any bells. Where Yu has no memory of it, and asks if he thinks he is going senile with how long he has lived, Mika promptly answers yes. When it comes to Yu the lights are on but generally no one is ever home.[227]

As they walk, Mika has noticed nothing ahead and alerts Yu. Warning him to hide, Mika takes his arm and propels them both behind the cover of some pillars. Keeping his hand over Yu's mouth, Mika shushes him as he warns that the First is here. Still covering Yu's mouth, Mika and him peek round the pillar to who is approaching.[228]

From the scene of Sika Madu walking with his disciples, Mika sees how Gekkouin, with Byakomaru, also Noya and Raimeiki are there. Additionally as are Asuramaru and Krul where Mika observes the group drawing nearer. Told he is right, Mika asks if Yu thinks the First will notice them. When Yu is not sure and wonders on how these are their memories, Mika clarifies that they are Yu's. When Yu explains how he gets the feeling that since Mika is his demon, that some of his memories are mixed in, Mika gives this possibility some thought.[229]

Clear that Sika Madu and his entourage are getting closer, Mika reminds Yu to shush. Concealed behind the pillar together, Mika covers Yu's mouth while his own is covered by him in turn. Remaining in that position until Sika Madu passes, Mika and Yu find they have gone undetected.[230]

After Yu notes they left, Mika is asked can they come out now. Sharing how he is scared, Mika raises with Yu how when they looked at his past before, the First noticed them. Hearing from Yu that is because the First was really close then, Mika is questioned can he feel him now and where he is. Replying only a little, Mika can feel the First is really far. It is like he is super-super weak now causing Mika to wonder why.[231]

Seeking to understand their memory based environment, Mika sees Yu display how people around cannot hear them. Then deciding to see if the man they are engaging with can bump into them, Mika allows himself to be walked into. Knocked over, Mika is startled to find the people are solid enough to hit them. Considering why people cannot see them but are still able to make physical contact, Mika explains to Yu the idea that they are part of his memories. It makes sense they cannot see being just memory after all, yet it seems like they can still touch them. Mika reasons it is because the people are solid objects like the ground is that they can remain on.[232]

Unsure whether the First they just saw can see them or if he is just a memory as Yu ponders about, Mika details that if things can touch them it means they can take damage should they get attacked. Mika concludes it is probably better to stay clear of them. His idea commended, when Yu guesses if they see Sika Madu again they should run, Mika deems that a smart idea. On where they should go next, Mika feels whatever direction the First came from would be safest. The memories he saw a while ago make Mika think there is a mansion in that direction.[233]

Whatever direction the First came from seems safest. The memories I saw a bit ago make me think there's a mansion that way.

–Having memories of the location, Mika says for him and Yu to head there which is also away from Sika Madu. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 18

Within the First's mansion there is a vast underground chamber with a single casket. Having made it to the residence, Mika and Yu open to doors to the room. Surprised to recognize the location, Mika voices how he saw it before.[234]

Oh! This place! I saw this before!

–Recognizing the room where a memory was viewed of Noya was murdering past Yu's in what is revealed to be the First's mansion. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 20

Joining Yu before the casket which contains a kid said to look just like him, Mika regards the corpse of Mikaela. Told to see it is him, Mika asks how, but guesses Yu is right that he looks identical to Mikaela. Raising how Mikaela is supposed to be the First's kid, Mika mentions did he not say that.[235]

In response to Yu's quietness, Mika asks him what is wrong. Where Yu remembers long ago that he would spend all day leaning on the glass they are on now, Mika asks really and is interested in whether he can remember any details. Although Yu can't, but knows he was always here watching and talking, Mika asks to who. Checking if Yu means he was speaking to this kid, Mika questions did the First not say he was dead.[236]

Tapping the glass, Mika says hello to Mikaela and enquires if he can talk. Requesting that his lookalike say something, Mika sees no response from Mikaela. Turning to ask Yu what they talked about, Mika hears he cannot remember. From Yu's comment that he can remember as far as his throat but it will not come out, Mika responds that he does not think people generally remember things with their throats. While Yu finds he cannot recall the words, Mika focuses on how he does remember one thing, namely talking to that corpse.[237]

But you do remember one thing, right? You talked to that corpse.

–Addressing how Yu was in the past and spoke to Mikaela who was said to be dead. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 24

Being asked by Yu does he not remember it too leaves Mika taken aback. If this kid really is him, then Mika is questioned again would he not remember this. Giving it some thought, Mika's name being called comes to mind. Speaking how he kind of, but not really remembers, Mika details how there was this really dumb-sounding voice repeating his name over and over. Despite that, Mika weirdly feels like those memories are kind of recent before wondering when is Yu not annoying.[238]

With Yu guessing this is all they will find here and for them to go further back into the past, Mika agrees before wondering how far back they can go. Mika asks Yu how long has he been alive, yet he does not know. Questioned how they go about heading deeper into the past, Mika considers his hand which shimmers with a glimmering light.[239]

Above him, Mika's capabilities allow him to form a circle of light from the energy coming from him. As he does so, Mika speaks how he will devour Yu's desires and mentions to let his power go berserk. Although Mika means to use that to force them further in, Mika can perceive that Yu is running short of energy needed to help with this process. With Yu intending to go and eat quick, Mika will set it up so they can go even further back. As Yu temporarily takes his leave, Mika tends to the matter while saying he will see him.[240]

Contacting Yu as he physically eats, Mika calls his name to inform him it is enough, he has eaten plenty. Sharing that he has opened the door to the past, Mika states they can go way far back.[241]

I've opened the way to the past. We can go way far back.

–Informing Yu of the progress. Chapter 122: "Calories for Travel" Page 32

Not understanding what Yu is saying on account of him eating with his mouth full, Mika says for him to just get back here. He does not know how, but Mika thinks this goes insanely far into the past. Within the chamber from the memory, Mika has formed many large shining circles across the room. Appearing as if this has taken some effort to create them, Mika is praised by Yu.[242]

Informing him that he cannot get the door to the past to open, Mika directs Yu to a large black door coated in a fiery-like substance that has appeared in the room. Questioned by Yu if that door goes further back into their past, Mika answers yes. Asked if he has taken a peek already, Mika confirms just a little.[243]

On what he viewed through the door to the past, Mika guides Yu to look for himself, but mentions it is not good. If these really are Yu's memories, Mika states he has to wonder what he really is. When Yu guesses they will just have to look, Mika observes as he approaches the door to open it.[244]

Awaiting Yu to see what is ahead, after he comments there is ocean and so it is hard tell how far back in the past they are, Mika informs him it will be obvious in a minute. Stepping through the door to join him in the landscape, Mika guides Yu to just take a look. Mika promises Yu will know in an instant.[245]

Just take a look. I promise. You'll know in an instant.

–Guiding Yu to see the memory involving Cretaceous era dinosaurs. Chapter 123: "An Ancient Game of tag" Page 5

After Yu is approached by one of the Pteranodon in the vicinity, Mika is also shocked and says no way, that it is able to make contact and seize Yu's clothes. As the Pteranodon carrying Yu flies him to a Tyrannosaurus ahead Mika is alarmed. After Yu falls once the Tyrannosaurus grasps the Pteranodon's other leg, Mika runs over and calls his name.[246]

As the Tyrannosaurus bites into the Pteranodon, Mika gets Yu to run as they both flee. Away some distance Mika turns to survey the various other dinosaurs around. Where Yu is fumbling his words in shock, Mika understands and gets what he is trying to say. After Yu manages to blurt out the word dinosaurs, Mika gets how he feels. With Yu's astonishment replaced with wonder at the real life dinosaurs, Mika figured he would be excited.[247]

Where Yu marvels at the dinosaurs there, Mika notes how these are his memories. Questioned whether Yu was born in the age of the dinosaurs, Mika says to not ask him. In response to Yu questioning did humans even exist back then, Mika replies no, not even close. The humans they recognize today only evolved 10,000 to 20,000 thousand years ago.[248]

When Yu asks when was the age of the dinosaurs, Mika answers something like a hundred million years. In thought with how Yu has existed deep into the past, Mika jokes that he is probably a dinosaur on a mental level when he questions if he is one. As for this place being in Yu's memory, there is the idea that would mean he has to be nearby. Considering it a good question, Mika is not sure.[249]

Turning to a rustling nearby, where a small four-legged lizard has emerged, for Yu's question of whether he is nearby in the memory, Mika wordlessly points to the lizard. As Yu speaks about wanting to be a cool dinosaur, Mika notes that the lizard is staring right at them.[250]

The discussion on whether the lizard is Yu in the prehistoric past is interrupted by them hearing the words "found you". Looking to the speaker, Mika sees Mikaela descend.[251] Along with Yu having concealed themselves behind a tree, Mika observes Mikaela interact with the lizard he picks up. In response to Yu asking him since Mikaela is here does that mean this is his own memory, Mika questions is that really him.[252]

After Mikaela has opened the lizard's mouth, and a large shadowy-like orb with a single large eye bursts out, Mika observes this with shock. That something has popped out, Mika witnesses the entity seemingly playing with Mikaela who knew it was there.[253]

With Mikaela flying away with the sphere being, Mika is asked by Yu whether they know how to fly in the memory. Giving it some thought, Mika is practical and jumps some distance but finds he is unable to fly. Along with Yu he takes to running after Mikaela who is flying towards a mountain with smoke coming from it. Where Mikaela and the orb are barely unable to be seen from the trees, there is the concern they will not be able to catch up. An additional worry is whether they are going to get stuck here.[254]

Questioned by Yu if he cannot eat some of his desire and get stronger, Mika makes the attempt. Although cursed energy appears in his left eye, Mika finds it is no good. Explaining it to Yu that just coming here took a whole ton of desire, Mika adds that he does not have the strength to let his power go berserk.[255]

When Yu asks does he not have enough desire for him to eat, Mika clarifies it is the calories again. With Yu electing to go and eat quick, Mika supports that decision. He will keep running so they do not lose sight of them. As Yu closes his eyes to depart, Mika says for him to make it quick as he vanishes from the memory.[256]

Good! I'll keep running so we don't lose sight of them!

–Intending to follow Mikaela as Yu returns to gain energy for them to continue. Chapter 123: "An Ancient Game of tag" Page 25

By himself, Mika views a dinosaur to his left and feels this is freaky. For all that, Mika hopes he can keep up with who they need to locate. While still running, Mika looks behind to see that Yu has returned to him in the memory. Commenting that it is great he is back, Mika also notes Yu's strength has returned too.[257]

Asked if he has not lost sight of them, Mika responds probably not, and yet addresses if Yu's strength it back. Mika trails off to manifest his demon horns and tail on himself in his child form. Happily relaying to Yu that is is working, his power is also felt by him. Both renewed, Mika joins Yu in leaping up into the air using his amplified power.[258]

Above the trees a winged figure can be made out in the distance. Mika confirms with Yu that Mikaela and the shadowy entity are that way. Landing on the ground after the jump, Mika updates their course by informing Yu of the direction they are headed. Where it is past the mountain, Mika says to Yu for them to run.[259]

They're headed in that direction. Past the mountain.

–Keeping Yu updated as to where Mikaela and the shadow being are going. Chapter 123: "An Ancient Game of tag" Page 31

Bounding through the forest with Yu, their newfound demon power enables them to reach the rocky terrain of the mountain. Fatigued, Mika communicates with Yu that it is the other side of this cliff. As he walks slightly in front, Mika hears from Yu that he is no longer a demon where his tail and horns have disappeared.[260]

With Yu also mentioning he does not feel any strength in himself either, Mika states they will have to conserve energy while noting it is too easy to burn through it way too fast.[261]

We'll have to conserve energy. It's too easy to burn through it way too fast.

–Nearing the mountain, planning with Yu since their demon enhanced power has diminished. Chapter 123: "An Ancient Game of tag" Page 34

As they get climbing, Mika and Yu approach the peak of the mountain where a column of dark ash rises. Nearing the summit, Mika appears amazed at what he can see. Ducking down, Mika does not answer Yu whether he lost sight of angel Mika rather stares right at him. Questioned again if there is something on the other side of the cliff, Mika silently points to direct Yu to look.[262]

While Yu beholds the sight, Mika remains speechless at the many man-made appearing structures within the crater. In a state of disbelief, Mika observes tall rock-like formations, some of which resemble habitable towers. There are also at least two circular ringed structures made out of a concrete like material. A thin tower from one ringed building rises at an angle upwards. In the sky, multiple seraphs along with singular spheres with eyes can be observed.[263]

Absorbing the sight of a seraph like civilisation, Mika shares a look with Yu. When Yu comments there are a whole bunch of guys who look just like the First, Mika adds there are weird eyeballs too. As for what era this is, and whether it is the age of angels, Mika answers Yu it is a good question. Mika agrees with Yu this is bigger than they thought.[264]

Having entered the seraph civilisation, Mika mentions to Yu how he does not see any humans anywhere. It is just angels and more angels where Mika feels this must be an angel city or something. When Yu addresses how they are unable to be seen, Mika has the reminder that they can still run into them though so he should be careful. Asked whether they are to just look for angel Mika, he addresses the name Yu uses. For the angel that looks like himself, Mika says that is hardly the most imaginative name.[265]

Where Yu is unsure about finding Mikaela given the many angels around, Mika has noticed and points out what he thinks is a map over there. Closer to the large floating tablets that are inscribed with both text and overlapping circles, Mika studies them. Neither him or Yu can read it, yet Mika states this is Yu's memory though. After hearing Yu says it could be his own memory, Mika asks him now what.[266]

In response to Yu asking if he wants to wander around the place looking, Mika questions whether he realizes how huge this place is. With Yu keen to go inside every building to find Mikaela eventually, Mika asks if he is serious. From what they saw looking down from the mountain, Mika details that this city is ten times bigger than Shibuya or Shinjuku.[267]

Having no answer to Yu asking what else are they to do since they do not have a lot of options, Mika also does not discourage him from excitedly heading off to explore. Speaking to look at him optimistically charge off, Mika adds that much positivity is impressive. Also feeling he could probably learn from it, Mika heads after Yu and calls to wait for him.[268] As Mika explores with Yu, from his position within the city he would not be able to see the view from space that shows the seraph civilisation buildings are in the shape of a large pentagram covering a section of the Earth.

Back to back with Yu and wearily resting on the floor, Mika states this is impossible, they will never find Mikaela in this huge place. With the sun is going down too, Mika says things were dark enough even without that. Where Yu is getting hungry, Mika comments it is not easy staying this far back in the past. After Yu questions if he saw any restaurants, Mika notes and now he cannot get food off his mind. Mika asks if Yu wants to zip back to grab some food.[269]

From his position resting against Yu's back, Mika does not see Mikaela flying behind where he is sat. As Yu tries to speak, Mika asks him what is up. After Yu manages to blurt out ice cream cones, Mika answers he is right that there is an ice cream thing there having seen signs nearby bearing symbols of it. When Yu shouts no, Mika wonders does he not want any after all. Alerted to what he has seen, Mika turns to view angel Mika.[270]

Also stunned, more so with Mikaela flying upwards, Mika asks Yu is this not bad since he is super hungry right now. As Yu vanishes to eat quickly, it falls upon Mika to chase Mikaela given the risk of losing sight of him now. Commencing the chase at once, Mika raises how seriously it is him again who has to do so.[271]

Running between buildings, Mika is alarmed that he is losing him again. Mika also asks how is it fair that Mikaela can fly. Noticing an eyeball being to his right, Mika sees and embraces the opportunity to leap onto it. Holding on tight, Mika is transported upwards to where Mikaela is flying. Pleased to be taken closer, Mika then finds he is being taken off course as his transport heads in another direction.[272]

I'm losing him again! How's it fair that he can fly?!

–Concerned at losing track of Mikaela having located him again. Chapter 124: "An Elevator to Paradise" Page 15

Letting go of the eyeball being he was being carried on, Mika lands on a rock surface and continues running to keep Mikaela in sight. At seeing how high up he is, Mika steadies himself as he observes Mikaela in the air ahead fly towards the tallest tower in the area.[273]

Noting how Mikaela is heading to that tower, Mika then sees Yu materialize next to him. Promptly, Mika updates Yu that he thinks angel Mika is going to that tower. With Yu seeing how it goes all the way up to the sky, Mika wonders if he is not itching to climb all the way to the top. To spur him on, Mika thought Yu liked high places. After Yu speaks how he thought Mika would think he was dumb for indeed picking high places, Mika jokes that being dumb is one of the few things he is good at. Mentioning how Yu has it right that he needs to get even dumber, Mika has it in the context that he is trying to save everything, so he would need pudding for brains to believe in that.[274]

Yu. I think angel Mika's going to that tower.

–Updating Yu having successfully kept track of where Mikaela was heading. Chapter 124: "An Elevator to Paradise" Page 21

Ready with Yu to do this, Mika has his demon horns appear as his powers activate. His capabilities allow him to leap up with Yu to where Mikaela is in the sky. Upon hearing Mikaela mention his father aloud, Mika immediately drops with Yu to the ground.[275]

Sharing a look with him, when Mika is asked by Yu whether by father the First was meant, Mika thinks probably. It is the same answer for Yu's question of whether the First eats ice cream, with Mika adding there were a whole bunch of angels in line for it. Turning to the pressing matter at hand, Mika says for them to go check out the tower.[276]

Keeping his eyes on him, Mika sees Mikaela fly into a rectangular entrance in the side of the tower. Communicating with Yu to say there he went in, Mika responds to his question of which floor did Mikaela go in by attempting to count them. Using his hands to guess up to thirty floors, Mika concludes there is no way he can count that many given the height of the tower.[277]

C'mon. If we just go up the tower, we should find something.

–Searching for information at the tallest tower in the seraph civilisation. Chapter 124: "An Elevator to Paradise" Page 29

Asked why did he pretend he could count the floors, Mika jokes because it made him look smart. Laughing in response to Yu asking how are they supposed to fight if they are both dumb, Mika says for them to head out, if they just go up the tower they should find something. Past the long rectangular entrance of an outer wall, Mika appears in awe at the scene within.[278]

A seraph has had its identity confirmed via a beam of light from near a black square in the tower, and Mika thinks of the Tower of Babel that it was welcomed to. The announcement that the Babel Project is the return inhabitants to paradise using unrailed elevator technology is not heard fully as Mika with Yu leap through the door that opened for the seraph.[279]

Making it past the seraph, Mika with Yu find themselves before an inner section of the tower which bears elevators within the walls.[280] Where these elevators transport seraphs and eyeball beings with them upwards, Mika observes this scenario in silence. With Yu he approaches one such elevator and begins counting the button levels.[281]

Asking Yu which floor, after he mentions that since angel Mika went up so they should start on the highest floor, Mika proceeds with that. Selecting the top button, Mika is transported upwards along with Yu.[282] Brought into a open night sky appearing room, where Sika Madu is seated on a floating chair with levitating panel screens around him, Mika concurs with Yu that they found him.[283]

Silently watching, Mika answers Yu when he speaks that the First is probably not going to spot them. Questioned what Sika Madu is reading and whether they can read it to, Mika asks Yu is he wants to go and look. Sneaking round, Mika makes his way over to where Sika Madu is seated before his floating screens. Focusing on that, Mika does not comment on Yu mentioning that the seraph civilisation looks like something from the far-future rather than the age of the dinosaurs.[284]

Near to where the First is, Mika is asked by Yu if he can read it and expresses surprise at what he can see. On whether it says something amazing, Mika replies he does not know, he cannot read it, at all. With Yu beside him, Mika points for him to see who knows what the heck it says.[285]

Hearing Yu mention the sun's power and darkening it, Mika registers what was said. After creating servant tribes and resurrecting the dead are also spoken about, Mika realizes what it may mean that Yu is able to read the text. Shocked and saying no way, Mika states he told Yu that this was his memory before wondering who the heck he is.[286]

I told you this was your memory!

–Feeling it is Yu's memory they are in having heard him read the language from this time. Chapter 125: "Soft Serve with Father" Page 9

Swiftly deciding for them to focus on the more pressing matter, Mika urges Yu to forget what he is and encourages him to keep on reading.[287] Shocked when the screens vanish away, Mika turns to the reason why Sika Madu had them suddenly disappear. Where Mikaela has entered the room, Mika attempts to quieten Yu who comments on his presence in the memory. Placing his hand on his chest, Mika says for Yu to shush. He observes Sika Madu stating that he thought he forbade Mikaela from going into town.[288]

In conversation, Mikaela addresses the eyeball being he is with as Yu, and Mika looks to Yu beside him. Mika raises how he called the floating entity Yu. Listening as Sika Madu speaks of the eyeball being as a homunculus, from Mikaela's joy at having named his, Mika concentrates on his behaviour. Although the homunculus was called Yu, he remarks on the way angel Mika is acting and asks Yu does it not kind of seem like him.[289]

But... The way angel Mika's acting. Doesn't it seem kinda like you?

–Where a homunculus has been called Yu, Mika suggests that Mikaela may be linked to him instead. Chapter 125: "Soft Serve with Father" Page 15-16

After Sika Madu advises Mikaela against naming things because he could curse them with a heart, Mika once more glances to Yu beside him.[290] When Mikaela has embraced his father since he feels his name was given out of love, and Yu remarks that he is like a cute little puppy dog, Mika claims he would never do anything like that. Not committed to the idea that he is linked to Mikaela, in talking with Yu he states he in fact gets like how Mikaela is acting.[291]

As he continues to raise with Yu how one of them could be connected with Mikaela, and perhaps to keep Yu's mind off the homunculus that bears his name, Mika is solely fixed on the exchange between father and son. He does not notice at all that the homunculus has him within its field of vision. Mika has no idea that he can be seen accessing this memory by a being existing in the prehistoric past.[292]

For what he has in mind, after Mikaela remarks that his ice cream tastes good so it is good for him, Mika points that self-centered behaviour out to Yu. His attention is drawn back to Mikaela who has begun violently coughing.[293] As Mikaela attempts to persuade Sika Madu that he just swallowed funny, Mika can do little but watch as the memory of him falls to his knees.[294]

With it clear that Mikaela is ill and is being transported to a cleansing room, after Sika Madu says he will get better, Mika gives the words some thought. When Yu states that the First is lying, Mika agrees and feels sure that there is no cure for Mikaela's condition.[295]

Yeah. I'm sure there's no cure for his condition.

–Agreeing with Yu that Sika Madu is lying about Mikaela being able to get better. Chapter 125: "Soft Serve with Father" Page 36

Concentrating as Sika Madu states that he and Mikaela can enjoy ice cream later, Mika observes as a floating platter takes Mikaela away. In response to Yu saying this has to be the memory of when angel Mika died, and that the First loved his kid, Mika gives some thought as to what could result from this.[296]

Right. But when his beloved child died...

–Considering the situation having watched Sika Madu give assurances that Mikaela could become well again. Chapter 125: "Soft Serve with Father" Page 39

Outside, he observes Sika Madu being hailed as the king of Earth by a huge number of seraphs. From what was shown, Mika would have seen that the tower here is one of several among satellite kingdoms across various planets at that time. That a reservoir of photons, the source of seraph's power, was nearing completion so that they could return to the sun where a god was is also part of the scenario.

It is revealed to him that there are further humanoid seraphs, namely Bael and Paimon. Additionally, Amon, with Belial, and Astaroth, are also seen. Marbas, then Bathin, and Naberius are also there. As are Raum, and Orobas. Once Yu says he thinks he has seen those seraphs before, Mika agrees. Seeing Urd and Saito there, vampires who physically resemble the seraphs Bael and Paimon, he feels the others look familiar too.

After Yu comments how the seraph names are different despite the vampires of later eras they resemble, Mika wonders what that is all about. Looking to the sun, Mika is also curious as to what the seraphs mean by paradise. Knowing they said the sun, Mika has questions on whether they want to literally dive into the sun, and why.[297]

By nightfall, Mika along with Yu walk through a corridor following Sika Madu and Paimon.[298] Listening to their conversation about disposing of the experimental subject Mikaela or suffer divine punishment, Mika also sees that Paimon along with other seraphs are susceptible to a species affecting plague, and how the creation of Mikaela could be a solution to that. Additionally, Mika also sees that Sika Madu means to get the denizens of this Earth civilization to paradise.

It is the words of Sika Madu stating to Paimon that he will dispose of Mikaela in five days that causes Mika to look to Yu. After they part ways, Mika focuses on Paimon. Deciding to not follow Sika Madu but him outside, Mika finds Paimon was meeting with Bael.[299] Their conversation just as revealing, where Paimon is concerned that Sika Madu could be cursed by god should he commit the forbidden, Bael wonders what would there be in paradise if they are not together. From Paimon not wanting Sika Madu to tamper with forbidden life affecting areas, and willing to succumb to the plague he had, yet Bael content with them all dying together, Mika manages to absorb what each are after.

Asked by Yu who he would back, Mika shares his view that he guesses Urd (who they refer to Bael as due to the physical resemblance). Asking Yu in turn, when he is happy for them to die together, Mika takes note of his outstretched hand. Having something to discuss as well, Mika says it still makes one think. If he chooses to take Yu's hand, Mika trails off while considering if they somehow do not manage to save everybody.[300]

Instructed to just take Yu's hand already, Mika hears they can worry about the thinking stuff later. Mentioning how he can hear Yu saying it too, Mika states he remembers him shouting pretty much the same thing, referring to when he was a demon without his own memories. Returning Yu's high five, Mika speaks that after that they made their decision. Regarding Paimon and Bael, he has to wonder how theirs wound up turning out.[301]

After that, we made our decision. I have to wonder how theirs wound up turning out.

–Recalling his and Yu's decision to help everyone, then wondering what the outcome was for the seraphs Paimon and Bael. Chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise" Page 30

From Paimon and Bael's continuing dialogue, Mika resumes listening to them discussing how god is not forgiving of betrayal. While Paimon wants to protect Sika Madu from that no matter what, Mika has something to say on that point.

Speaking to Yu how that complicates things, Mika thinks he might be with Saito (referring to Paimon) on that bit. Explaining it to Yu, if he were in the First's shoes he would basically be shouldering all the responsibility for what happens by himself. Mika tells Yu he refuses to let that happen.[302]

If you were in the First's shoes... ...You'd basically be shouldering all the responsibility for what happens by yourself. I refuse to let that happen.

–Relating to Paimon's desire to not have Sika Madu shoulder a burden since he himself would not want that for Yu. Chapter 126: "Purgatory and Paradise" Page 32

Unsure of what Yu means after he said it feels like others are having the same conversations, Mika listens as it is explained how the spot the First is in is a lot like the one Guren is. Considering it a good point, Mika gives it some thought. Mika hears Yu address if everybody is doing the same thing over again does that make this hell. Regarding the Tower of Babel in view, while paradise is supposed to be that way they are unsure if that is heaven.[303]

After Yu shares that where he and all their friends are is heaven to him, Mika exchanges a glance with him. He and Yu address how then if this really is hell then the First has been stuck in it a long time. Looking back to the corridor, it is wondered what is going to happen next.[304]

Having remained in the memory after Yu when to eat to acquire energy, Mika is able to remain in his child demon form. Once Yu arrives and announces he is back, Mika points out how Mikaela is in his room nearby and speaking with the homunculus.[305] Along with Yu he hears the noise from the corridor before Mikaela in the memory does, and they mention how someone is coming. From the coughing, Mika registers it is Paimon who he and Yu refer to as Saito.[306]

Witnessing the event of Paimon attacking Mikaela with a dagger, after the light based powers are displayed which blasts apart a section of the Tower of Babel, Mika stares in shock.[307] Once Paimon falls to his knees from the effects of his illness, Mika listens as he details to Mikaela how he means to kill him for the King.[308] When Paimon attacks Mikaela again, a beam of light blasts out the tower to which Mika shields his eyes from the effects of the destruction.[309]

Once Paimon ends his own life using the dagger, and Mikaela begins to regard the weapon having been told his existence is a liability for his father, Mika glares at the scene likely having suspected what is to happen.[310] With Mikaela meaning to end his life to prevent God from punishing Sika Madu, as he holds the knife Mika sees how Mikaela's life ends.[311]

As Sika Madu enters the room in the memory to find Paimon and his son deceased, Mika stands silently with Yu around the lifeless body of Mikaela.[312] After Yu comments to him that it was suicide, Mika uneasily states this could not have gone worse.[313] Once Bael enters the room in the memory, Mika watches as he comes across the scene of Paimon deceased.[314] Mika listens as Sika Madu speaks of his despair having lost Mikaela.[315]

Having heard that Bael had some notion of Sika Madu's resistance plan, Mika remains observing as he departs with Paimon. He looks to Sika Madu holding Mikaela while stating he feels lost.[316] Although not seen, Mika may be aware that Sika Madu told other angels that they were to return to paradise now that the Tower of Babel had completed its stockpile of light. However where Sika Madu instead had the homunculus named Yu darken the light in the tower to attempt resurrection, Mika may have witnessed seraphs armed with trumpets attack the homunculus and Sika Madu for breaking the taboo of resurrection. Mika perhaps viewed another humanoid angel summon a meteor shower to destroy the seraphs civilization and Earth before having Sika Madu turned into an undead to burn for millennia.

Once Sika Madu could generate darkness to protect him from the light, and found Yu the homunculus had brought Mikaela's coffin, Mika observed the events to follow. Sat beside Yu on some grass in the memory, Mika has just witnessed the homunculus produce the first human seen on Earth. Where the child looks like Yu, he is asked whether that is the first him. Unsure, Mika asks whether it is and adds he is confused. After saying he cannot tell who is who anymore, Mika wonders with Yu which one they area. They reason one of them have to be here since these events would not be in their memories otherwise.[317]

The second child seen produced on Earth by the homunculus is seen to have light colored hair. While Yu raises does that child not look like him, Mika wonders whether it is him. Not too sure, where the children being made are not clothed Mika questions is that one not a girl.[318]

Is that me? I dunno. Isn't it a girl?

–A homunculus is producing the first humans seen on Earth, yet Mika doubts one made is connected to him. The First Vampire: "The First Vampire" Page 31

After the homunculus rapidly brings forth thirteen other children into the world, Mika stares is shock at the scene. Speaking with Yu on how many are being born, Mika states he is totally lost before asking what is going on.[319] The happening of Sika Madu directing the homunculus to have intil greed among other traits in these humans would be observable. If it were visible to him, Mika neither commented on Sika Madu raising the souls of dead angels which flew into the human children that were to collect darkness for Sika Madu's adjusted resurrection campaign.

When the child who resembled Yu noticed the coffin of Mikaela, from his responses it became clear that he could hear from him. Appearing stunned, Mika saw that communications were being received by the youth even though Mikaela was deceased.[320] Remaining focused on the sight ahead, Mika answered probably when turned to by Yu who asked whether what they thought was happening was happening.

Bearing in mind to check what Sika Madu was doing given past experiences, Mika and Yu see that in the memory he is some distance away engaging with the homunculus. After Yu states the First has not noticed, Mika sees it is the case. With that, along with Yu he walks closer to where the child is hearing from the corpse of Mikaela.[321]

Where the child has heard Mikaela share his name as Mika, and has relayed that he is dead, Mika stands with Yu not too far away as he listens to the one speaking role of the conversation taking place. Attentive to what Yu wants to discuss, after he addresses how the child and Mikaela are talking, but is unsure how, Mika responds that he does not get it either.[322]

Having given it some thought, Mika asks Yu whether he is sure he does not remember what was communicated. If this is Yu's memory, Mika feels he should remember hearing what was said.

Are you sure you don't though? If this is your memory, you should remember hearing what he said.

–Asking whether Yu remembers given that a child resembling him is receiving communications from Mikaela in his mind. The First Vampire: "The First Vampire" Page 38

When Yu is grappling with his head, and states he is unable to hear anything, but feels something is in the way, Mika insists it is his memory. Willing him to remember due to what they may be missing, and perhaps also influenced by not wanting it to be his way, Mika orders Yu to remember it, now. After the child has spoken that he knows what Mikaela wants, Mika urges Yu to hurry. Feeling that the youth is going to say something big, Mika states Yu has got to remember what Mikaela said in his mind, perhaps under the impression they could not gain a full understanding of what was to be said otherwise.[323]

Yu, hurry! He's about to say something big! You've got to remember, or...

–Urging Yu to remember what Mikaela relayed in his mind before the child reveals something they may not understand. The First Vampire: "The First Vampire" Page 38

Hearing a clear answer, once the boy speaks aloud that Mikaela wants to put his soul inside to become him, and then he can save his dad, Mika looks to Yu.[324] With Yu's consciousness returning to his physical body, Mika returns to his position in the cabin they both inhabited within the sea of trees around Mt. Fuji.

It transpires that Mikaela had placed his spirit inside the body of the human who looked like Yu, and then the homunculus named Yu assumed the form of Mikaela's corpse. This switch around was done so that Sika Madu would never succeed in resurrecting Mikaela, as his soul was hidden in the body of a human, where the corpse was but a homunculus imitating his physical appearance. After being asked by Yu who he is then, Mika can only wonder what the situation is they have come across.[325]

Having seated himself opposite, Mika listens as Yu shares he is starting to remember, and that he was found. Answering yes he got found, Mika comments it sure took him long enough. On what memories they may have concerning what they witnessed, Mika answers Yu he does not have any of his either. Mika shares that he thinks that if he did have memories he would not have been able to bear it. This has all taken so long, where Mika feels he would have given in to despair.[326]

After Yu comments how the vampires all live for a really long time and seem to hate it, Mika agrees. With Krul envisioned, Mika says she looks like she has suffered a lot. As Yu raises what it means to live if they are all just going to die anyway and forget, Mika sees the issue yet continues hearing him out. After Yu wonders why he is trying so hard to turn him back into a human, Mika raises whether he is really bringing that up now. In any case, Mika adds that he already gave Yu his answer.[327]

Questioned what his answer was again, Mika details how it was for them both to run away somewhere. They would go into hiding and live a quiet peaceful life. The intent was for them to then die together, and no matter which way he looked at things Mika felt that was the only viable answer he could find.

Let's both run away somewhere. We'll go into hiding. Live a quiet, peaceful life. Then we'll die together. No matter which way I looked at things, that was the only viable answer I could find.

–Re-evaluating what he wanted given his progression towards becoming a full demon, where he has given thought to leaving so as not to endanger Yu. Chapter 130: "The First Vampire" Page 29

With Yu addressing the running away thing, and with him stating that nothing could be changed matter how hard he worked, Mika has no answer for why they should bother working at all.[328]

For the question of if Yu were to run away somewhere and die quietly would that make him happy, Mika absent-mindedly responds affirmatively that he guesses so. Having not mentioned the topic of him becoming a full demon at all, once Yu raises the matter of how he cannot hold out for much longer though, Mika comments how he noticed. Where Yu indeed noticed, Mika is asked what will happen when he is a full demon. From the possibilities of whether he would possess him or try to leave, after Yu suspects it will be the latter, Mika is impressed that he noticed that too.[329]

Having not mentioned anything of himself turning into a full demon up until now, Mika had noticed the progression towards that. In a similar manner, Mika has no response to Yu asking if he thinks he will let that happen. While thinking about it, the matter of Akane and the kids being deas still is brought up. For whether they can really just give up and say they are done, Mika along with Yu are remembered as children in Sanguinem witnessing Ferid murder a member of their Hyakuya Orphanage family.

Contemplating that, Mika hears Yu out as he asserts that they can say they do not remember clearly. The them they saw back in the memory is not really them. Perhaps not fully convinced, and not enthusiastic about it, Mika is still ready to at least agree with the idea. If he has concerns on what the memories mean, and himself becoming a full demon who will try and possess others, Mika looks to Yu is silence after hearing he will not give up on him.[330]

Where Yu decides he is not giving up on Akane and the kids either, Mika hears he also wants to save Guren and the others from what they are suffering too. Asking if there is anything else out of curiosity, Mika agrees with Yu that while they can be unsure of what happened to the old them, or what transpires after they die, should the them they are now perish it means they are dead. Feeling that is true, once Yu claims they cannot afford to die, Mika understands that already. Mika thanks Yu for confirming the obvious.

Listening as Yu frames it as they are weak humans who are still going to find a way to make it work and win, Mika's view is sought on whether that is the situation. Mika states basically in summary they have to try hard, the end. He mentions for all Yu's talking he just circled back to the same conclusion.[331]

Given they went to the past to look for information to help them win, not to get away, that is something Mika feels is true. Beholding Yu's beaming face as he states he is not letting him get away until they die, Mika guesses that is so. While Yu is enthusiastic about them knowing the rules of the game, where if they know the game they can make rules, Mika is not too impressed on such a game.

Asked who is going to win in the end, Mika considers the question before matching Yu's determination. Enthusiastic on the matter for the first time given the difficulties he is aware of, Mika affirms they are going to win of course, who else.

Us, of course! Who else?

–An affirmation to Yu that they are going to win. Chapter 130: "The First Vampire" Page 35

On his feet having been seated up until now, Mika and Yu's formed course of action is for them to acquire the seven sinful keys. Along with Yu he appears set on doing whatever it takes to do it.[332]

Out in the forest, Mika alerts Yu that it went in his direction.[333] The it that Mika had seen was a large bear. Joining his location after Yu had vanquished the bear, Mika asks him how many that makes now. Where it is the third, Mika brings two boars on his shoulders to join the total.

Detailing how they have to make sure they are always stocked up on food, Mika mentions how Yu has absolutely horrible energy efficiency. Helping Yu to acquire food so that the rations can be saved, Mika says to let him start a fire. For the piece of wood he has acquired, Mika is able to manipulate his tail to drill into the wood to form the fire before he then directs Yu to butcher the meat.[334]

When Yu mentions how he misses curry, Mika happily asks whether he remembers the last day he was human. According to him, Yu swiped his share of the curry and ate it. Not responding to Yu pointing out that he set his share aside, Mika remains upbeat as he enquires whether the kids liked their last meal.[335]

Informed by Yu that the kids said they wished they could share it with him, Mika remains happy as he replies how he figured as much. Mika bets it was boring without himself as the main character around. Affirming that they would just have to bring them all back, Mika adds they can then have a big curry dinner together.

Asked whether he can eat, Mika clarifies he will be a human again by that point, of course. After it is mentioned how he sounds optimistic, Mika responds that Yu made up his mind so he might as well get used to the idea. Questioning whether Yu is going to give up, Mika is then asked to help butcher the meat. Declining with his apology and hand, Mika states he is too busy since he has to think up plans.

By nightfall, Mika sits with Yu around the fire. To summarize their plan,[336] Mika explains that their goal is to collect the sinful keys and bring Mikaela back to life. Taking into account how Guren and Ferid are also looking for the sinful keys, Mika feels they have a head start on himself and Yu. He adds they do not know what Guren and Ferid are planning.

So! To summarize... Our goal is to collect the sinful keys and bring Mikaela back to life. But! Guren and Ferid are also looking for the sinful keys, and they've got a head start on on us. We don't know what they are planning.

–Setting out his and Yu's plan after accessing memories into the ancient past, and taking into account what others are up to. Chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone" Page 9-10

In response to Yu feeling that Guren is trying to resurrect humanity but not Mikaela, he asks his view on what plans Ferid may have formed. Giving some thought to what Ferid may be up to where Yu has had some ideas, Mika then says to wait. If that past they saw was true, Mika raises is Yu not Mikaela.

Stating to think for a second,[337] Mika feels if Guren's wish comes true then he will bring all of humanity back to life. For Mikaela however, who Mika takes into account would be Yu, he would stay dead. Where Yu finds it confusing, Mika questions is that not how it works.

If Guren's wish comes true... ...He'll bring all of humanity back to life, but Mikaela-you-will stay dead. Isn't that how it works?

–Attempting to understand the situation with Mikaela given his link to Yu, and bearing in mind the plans of others. Chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone" Page 12

Explaining it to Yu, he details how bringing Mikaela back requires all the sinful keys, but bringing humanity back requires all of them too.

Taking into account the possibility that Yu is really the angel Mikaela, when it is looked at that way, Mika cheerfully declares that their positions have totally flip-flopped. Given the situation, Mika states that reviving all of humanity does not mean squat to him. In going though all of this, Mika affirms it finally hit him. His job is to keep Yu safe at all costs and that is it.

In response to Yu noting how he seems motivated like he was years ago, Mika is pleased to confirm that. On his feet, Mika affirms Yu has got it and all a dunce like him has to do is follow the instructions of Mika the genius.[338]

Announcing that he will save him no matter what, it is something Mika promises. Observed to be excited, Mika extends his hand to Yu and states that they have made it this far so he is not allowed to die on him now.[339]

With Yu guessing so, Mika's finds the simultaneous reason for his declaration did not invite the possible answer from Yu he anticipated. Changing his tone, Mika says to hang on. He thought for sure that this was the part where Yu would say "then all we have to do is sacrifice me". Finding that Yu apparently has no such intention, after it is mentioned that the past him seemed kind of smart, Mika agrees it is a good point. Back in the far past, Mika comments that Yu was smart, but looking at him now.[340]

Where Yu is unsure which one of them is which, and so if angel Mikaela is not brought back to life one or the other could end up dying, Mika wonders if they even know whether Mikaela is even a separate being anymore. Noting that bringing him back requires all seven sinful keys, Mika raises the possibility in asking what if bringing them back means who Yu is now goes away. Mika says he does not want that.

In response to Yu claiming that he does not mind either way, Mika avows that he does. Hearing Yu would care if he himself disappeared, Mika sees the view is understood. When Yu suspects the First wants to resurrect Mikaela to then use his life to bring the angels back, Mika feels that is probably the case. As for Guren aiming to use the sinful keys to bring all of humanity back, Mika agrees with seeing that as his goal.

For what Mikaela's goal was, Mika's answer is from what they saw he wanted to save the First. He registers the possibility that saving the First probably means letting him bring all the angels back. Thinking into it further, Mika raises how revivification has a price. Paying attention to what he feels has transpired but not been outright said, Mika states God always metes out punishment. He wonders who will the sacrifice be this time.[341]

It is possible when sacrifices were being considered that Mika had Guren holding the deceased Shinya, and Sika Madu cradling Mikaela in mind. When Yu speaks that his goal will be to not let God punish anybody, Mika regards him thoughtfully.[342]

Joining him at his level and placing his hand on his shoulder, Mika checks whether Yu is including himself in that statement. From an imagined potential scenario, Mika specifies that Yu getting brought back to life as angel Mikaela, to be punished instead of the First and then dying in order to bring back all the angels and humans, that is something Mika will not let happen. He asks Yu whether this is understood.[343]

And... ...You are including yourself in that statement. Right? You getting brought back to life as angel Mikaela... ...Only to wind up getting punished in the First's place... ...And dying in order to bring back both all the angels and all the humans. I will not let that happen! Understood?

–Checking whether Yu's comment that he won't let God punish anyone includes himself, and not intending to have Yu endure anything. Chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone" Page 23-24

Confirming with Yu that he is going to think of a way to make it all work out, Mika returns to the matter he needs an answer for. If stuff happens and Yu has to make a choice, Mika requests that he promise him he won't ever decide to sacrifice himself for everyone else. Finding that Yu is thinking about it, Mika asserts he will not help him unless he promises not to give up on himself all the way to the very end.[344]

The question is also asked of Mika, after Yu details if they find out that somehow he is actually Mikaela, would he promise him the same thing. Hearing Yu say he should not sacrifice himself no matter what, Mika appears shocked at what Yu mentions. It does not stop him from promising he will.

Thinking aloud, Mika articulates that this whole damn story is about people sacrificing themselves. As long as that keeps happening then nothing with ever end. Where Guren and Ferid may be being contemplated him, Mika frames the situation as all one big vicious cycle of desire and obsession.[345]

Yeah. I will. This whole damn story... ...Is about people sacrificing themselves. As long as that keeps happening, nothing will ever end. It's all one big vicious cycle... ...of desire and obsession.

–Confirming with Yu he will not sacrifice himself, then commenting on a wider picture others are involved in. Chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone" Page 26-27

Having something else on his mind, Mika thinks back to himself and Yu as children with their deceased family around them. For himself, Mika speaks how he has already died. Mika begins to talk on how he has to cling to this meaningless un-life of his, before breaking off.[346]

Finding his words, Mika appears happy to inform Yu that this time he is going to make sure they win without any sacrifices. That is something he promises Yu. From the comment that he is starting to sound more and more like his old self, Mika turns to having Yu promise him already and say that he won't give up on himself.[347]

Asked whether he can come up with a plan, there are other smart individuals involved which includes Guren and Mahiru. The First, then Saito, and also Ferid are also in consideration and yet Mika is happy to assure Yu that they have got someone super-smart on their side too. As he points to himself, Mika finds that Yu has taken his answer to say the super-smart one is him.

Whatever the case, Mika concludes that he and Yu are still the ones who are on the front lines. Everybody else thinks he is angel Mikaela, and if nobody else knows that it is the opposite since it is Yu, then Mika thinks he has just come up with a plan. Mika describes it as the best, most twisted plan to blow everybody else out of the water.

Whatever the case, we're still the ones who're on the front lines. Everybody else thinks I'm angel Mikaela. If nobody else knows that it's the opposite... ...Then I think I just came up with the best, most twisted plan to blow everybody else out of the water!

–Taking into account a major advantage he and Yu have and ready with a plan right there. Chapter 131: "Exoneration for Everyone" Page 32

Although Mika is fine describing his plan like that, he is not as happy at himself being described as the most twisted-est most warped one of them all. Triumphant with Yu that they are ready to do this, Mika then sees he has been asked what exactly is it that they are doing.[348]

In a different vehicle than the truck they arrived there in, Mika with Yu now drive away from Mt. Fuji. As Yu drives, Mika recounts what he has summarized. Now that he sits back and looks at the whole picture, Mika reflects how he and Yu have been experimental guinea pigs seemingly forever.[349]

Asking Yu if he remembers their last name, Mika addresses how it was because they were in the Hyakuya Sect's orphanage. Raising how the Hyakuya Orphanage was constantly visited by Saito, and specifying how it was that Saito, the former second progenitor, Mika adds how he was an angel way back in their memory too. Mika appears to be referring to the angel Paimon and connects his and Yu's memories to the beings of the past as well.[350]

So the Hyakuya Orphanage was constantly visited by Saito. That Saito. The former second progenitor. He was an angel way back in our memory too.

–Raising the significance of Saito's involvement, more so with the details of his past. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 5

After Yu speaks how they were involved with a lot of crazy stuff even before they were caught by vampires, Mika jokes how that was a lot of words to say not much. Asking if Yu is starting to remember, Mika agrees with his view on learning who Saito really is. Sharing his own account, Mika details how he and Akane thought that Saito was this really nice guy at first, but it turns out that he is pretty terrifying.

When Yu mentions that he saw Saito and Mahiru when he was imprisoned as a child before coming to the orphanage, Mika comments yikes before adding how it is hard to believe anything anymore. In stating that Yu has gone through way too much of his life in a daze, Mika hears it is the same for him[351] Hearing Yu say he gets that way because he does not have a strong enough will to live, Mika reluctantly guesses so but tries to rationalize that they were both just kids at that time after all.

Turning to another matter, Mika discusses how it was probably Saito or the First who were experimenting on them through the Hyakuya Sect, although Mika says to Yu he could not tell him which one of those two though. Feeling that they are both behind the Demon Army as well, again though Mika is not sure who out of Saito or Shikama Doji. After Yu shares how he hopes it is one of them, and not they do not need anyone bigger popping up, Mika agrees wholeheartedly. With Ferid, then Guren, and Mahiru, he already has enough on his plate.[352]

You're telling me. With Ferid, Guren, and Mahiru, I've already got enough on my plate, thanks.

–Agreeing with Yu that they do not need anyone bigger than Saito or Shikama Doji involved. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 8

Regarding the angel that was able to burn Shikama Doji in the past, Mika requests for Yu to hold it and simply not bring him up. Judging him to be way too big, Mika hears Yu describe him as practically the Sun. As he appears to shield his eyes, Mika says for them to not talk about the Sun itself then adds how it is way too bright.

Mentioning to Yu to how either the First or Saito used their experiments to make them, Mika asks if he has the same view. If they made them the way they did, Mika concludes that means they need his and Yu's power. After Yu states how it seemed in their memories that they needed it to bring angel Mikaela back to life, Mika thinks that sounds right. In betting how Saito and Shikama Doji have been trying and failing a lot, for like thousands of years, Mika seeks Yu's opinion on why is that.[353]

Once Yu answers the First and Saito probably failed since they think Yu is him, and Mika is Yu, he agrees. This is based on that Mika looks like Mikaela who was to be resurrected, though it transpires that Mikaela's soul was hidden within Yu. Given the knowledge they have, Mika asks Yu what do they have to be scared about getting caught for. Even if they are somehow captured, Mika reasons an attempt to resurrect Mikaela will just fail again.

Where Yu appears unsure, Mika says for him to think about it. Once Yu sees that this means they can interact with the vampires no problem, Mika smiles contentedly. If they can engage with the vampires, more information can be gathered. There is also the prospect of convincing the vampires to help them fight against Guren to get the sinful keys which is a particularly enticing idea.

Given that possibility, Mika updates Yu that they have to make the vampires think that he has information on how to bring back Mikaela so that they do not kill him. Additionally, Mika continues that he still has to make sure the vampires remain thinking that he is not Yu, and do not learn he has Mikaela's soul within.[354]

Listening as Yu explains it to himself that he has to have the vampires think he will be useful to their experiments, while not letting on that he is Mikaela, and not Yu, he says to him that is it exactly. Mika asks if Yu thinks he can do it, but does not appear too convinced at Yu's claim that he is good at that stuff. Cautioning that if he screws up and dies then everything is over, Mika checks whether Yu is sure he can.[355]

After Yu presents his assurances that he can do it, Mika responds that he is worried. Curious at Yu's comment that this is fun, Mika gives some thought to whether it is on account that they have consistently been a part of someone else's plan, but now it is their turn to have plans and trick people. As for whether it is fun, Mika breaks into a grin and affirms it actually is.[356]

For what Mika had helped organized, it involves Yu heading to the Demon Army headquarters. There, Mika would have arranged for Yu to engage with vampire progenitors who were gathered. The audience includes Saito and Urd, then Lest Karr with Ky Luc as well. If it is a new vampire or one Mika might be aware of, then Basteya is also present too. Unseen, Mika conceals himself in the sword[357] as Yu then greets the vampires.[358]

In response to Ky Luc viewing Yu as an abnormal human and meaning to attack, Mika's powers within the sword are relied on. Defending Yu from Ky Luc's manifested weapon, Mika is invoked to slice it open and electricity surges from the blade.[359] The ranged power cast outwards slices off Ky Luc's weapon arm after he leapt away, where the curse effect stopped the severed limb from regenerating. The weapon Mika was powering would have likely assisted in helping Yu break into the floor above.

The sword Mika is occupying is stabbed into the ceiling and keeps Yu fixed there. Asked by Yu if he thinks they can defeat Ky Luc, he responds they do not have to. Mika's goal is they just have to make the vampires think they cannot kill them.

We don't have to. We just have to make them think they can't kill us.

–Answering Yu's question of whether they can beat Ky Luc, and meaning to have him and other vampire progenitors think that. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 22

Helping to keep Yu in place, when Ky Luc appears again the weapon repels the fifth progenitor. Mika's power helps against multiple clashes against Ky Luc. Taken with Yu outside the building, Mika speaks to urge him to hurry and cast the curse on them before he gets killed.[360]

Yu, c'mon! Hurry and cast the curse on them, before you get killed!

–Urging Yu to enact a curse related plan. Chapter 132: "Battle to The First" Page 25

With Yu, he awaits him to announce to the vampire progenitors how he has information on how to bring Mikaela back.[361] After Shikama Doji has spoken for Yu to come to him, and Saito has ordered the vampires to prevent that, Mika within the weapon is on the ground with Yu. While Yu notes that in actuality it seems that Saito and the First are not on good terms, Mika asks him what now.

Hearing how the curse worked, and Yu say that the vampires won't kill them, Mika feels that is the case. His name is mentioned by Saito who attempts to enjoin him and Yu to not go to the First. After being warned that the First is much scarier than Saito and he will just use them, the sword Mika occupies is sheathed by Yu. As soon as Saito apparently lowers his guard, Mika is spoken to by Yu for them to do this. Shadows emanate from the sword hilt as Yu speaks for their power to go berserk. Mika is guided to take it as far as he can[362] where he helps Yu embrace demon power.[363]

With Yu they have and take the chance to target Ky Luc as the vampire progenitors come under attack from shadowy orbs sent by Shikama Doji.[364] As the vampires grapple with that intervention, Mika with Yu attempt to engage Urd.[365] Evidently having planned it with Yu, he is ready to induce further demon power to help them both. Mika's power allows four blackened seraph wings to allow them to fly to where Shikama Doji is imprisoned.[366]

Aware of the attack that Urd is charging, Mika and Yu converse in their sphere. After Yu asks him what now given the intensity of the incoming power, Mika gives it some thought. Questioned if he thinks they can block the whole strike given its size, Mika immediately dismisses the idea. Feeling sure that it would obliterate them both, Mika also tells Yu even if they did block it the attack would knock them away.

Oh, heck no. It'll obliterate us. Even if we did block it, it'd toss us who knows how far.

–Responding to Yu that blocking the whole of Urd's strike is impractical. Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" Page 6

After Yu also observes that if they were hurled away at best then they would also not hear what Shikama Doji had to say, Mika is again asked what they should do. Contemplating it, Mika speaks that it is not like it can be that bad. Feeling the vampires do have that curse on them that basically prevents them from being killed, Mika hears Yu state it seems clear that Urd is trying to kill them.

Putting that down to them being in the middle of a pitched battle, Mika then points out that if the two of them are not actually resisting then the vampires should be bound by the curse not to kill them. Continuing, Mika details as long as they get their shot at talking to the First then letting the vampire progenitors catch them afterwards is no big deal.[367]

Affirming to Yu that means they have options, Mika beams with happiness as he explains one involves himself blocking that strike by himself for as long as their energy holds out. Mika says for Yu to go ahead and toss his sword at the ranged attack from Urd then assures him it will be fine.

And that means we have options. Like me blocking that strike by myself for as long as our energy holds out. Go ahead and toss your sword at it. I'll be fine!

–Grinning happily, Mika means to give Yu a chance to reach the First by enduring the attack aimed at them. Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" Page 8

Upon Yu pointing out is that not like suicide, Mika replies that it is hard for him to kill himself when he is already dead. Mika adds even if he does get blown to bits then he can just devour Yu's desire and reconstitute. When Yu thinks that sounds like it would leave him super hungry, Mika agrees probably so much that he will not be able to move from stomach cramps, but it will be better than dying.

Once Yu agrees to the plan to hurl the sword for him to use, Mika states he will go as hard as he can.[368] Once the weapon is cast, Mika is ready to manifest as he heads to the column of light that is about to form further into the power coming to them.

Wielding the sword, Mika collides with the gigantic streak of light emitted from Urd. Determined, Mika endures as collateral damage impacts buildings nearby. Finding cracks appear in the blade itself, Mika feels that this was a bad plan. Alarmed, Mika calls to Yu that this was a really bad plan.[369]

Ah. Uh-oh. Bad plan. Yu! This was a really bad plan!'

–Able to block Urd's ranged power but then finding cracks form in his sword. Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" Page 13

Able to persevere as the power washes over the city, Mika is brought to Yu's side likely from a teleportation ability that the freed Shikama Doji used. Moved out of harm's way, Mika feels frustrated that did not work at all even though it did allow Yu the time to free the First. Further, although Mika states he could only stop the attack for like seven seconds, that was plenty and he appears to have sustained no injury to himself.

Augh! That didn't work at all! I could only stop it for like, seven seconds!

–Although feeling he didn't do enough, Mika was vital in enabling Yu to free Shikama Doji. Chapter 136: "The Godtouched" Page 22

Noticing Shikama Doji with them on the building top, Mika is surprised to find him transparent. Where Shikama Doji has no time since Rigr and Urd will be here, Mika listens as he discusses with Yu how it was said that he can bring Mikaela back.[370] Observing as Shikama Doji manifests three spells, Mika is surprised to see the physical constructs of the method to resurrect Mikaela, then the method of hiding the world from paradise, and the method to destroy paradise.[371]

As Yu speaks to Shikama Doji that he will resurrect all the angels, Mika is there as the First passes his remaining powers to Yu. With that done, Mika remains sat near Yu as the vampire progenitors reach them. Mika sees Urd arrive, along with Ky Luc, then Saito, and Lest Karr as well.[372]
