Shihō Kimizuki (君月 士方 Kimizuki Shihō?) is one of the main male deuteragonists of the Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign manga series and older brother to Mirai Kimizuki. Featured in other Seraph of the End material, he is a member of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, as well as Shinoa Hīragi's squad in the Moon Demon Company. After making a contract with a demon, in combat Kimizuki wields twin swords and can draw upon the power of Kiseki-o as he grows more proficient in their use.

Initially confrontational with certain people such as Yūichirō Hyakuya, and having a sharp intellect, both are a means to an end of ensuring Kimizuki could reach a point where he could cover his sister's medical bills. Slightly closer to Yoichi Saotome, he also fights alongside Mitsuba Sangū of his squad. It is his physical prowess that are an asset when fighting vampires, whether in defending Shinjuku from an invasion, to attacking vampire nobles in Nagoya, where quick and sensible thinking can help his squad as well.

Finding his sister used as a seraph, Kimizuki deserted the army. While professing that he would betray others, even his own squad, to defend Mirai, inwardly Kimizuki has notions of wanting a regular life. He remains loyal to his team members, yet also harbors feelings of not wanting to be shown up by others. Aware of Guren Ichinose's plan, the person he was selected by to acquire a black demon weapon, and who murdered his sister, Kimizuki would continue furthering that.

Note: This is the page for Kimizuki in the manga and light novels, for the anime article detailing Kimizuki see: Shihō Kimizuki (Anime).

Appearance

Shihō Uniform

Shihō in his JIDA uniform

The tallest member of Shinoa Squad, Kimizuki has short pink hair that is unkept in style, where his thin eyebrows are the same color. He has reddish-brown eyes. Kimizuki wears black, thick-framed glasses that are rectangular in shape, and has two piercings in his left ear.

He is shown wearing his school uniform, a grey gakuran with a standing collar that is black with teal trim. The jacket is unbuttoned as he wears a hoodie underneath.

After he was enlisted into the Moon Demon Company, he wears the standard Japanese Imperial Demon Army uniform which consists of a long-sleeved black coat with light green details including the shoulder epaulettes, which has a brown Sam Browne belt passing diagonally over his right shoulder. There are two rows of gold buttons on the front. Along with that, Kimizuki wears a pair of white gloves and a white web belt with a gold waist-plate. He also wears the uniform trousers with two white belts around his right leg, and knee-high black boots which goes over his trouser legging.

Personality

As a student, Shihō is shown to be a very diligent and smart, scoring 100% in his Latin, English, and Japanese tests.[2] This was achieved where Kimizuki did not appear studious, he was not even listening to class, and instead was sleeping with a book covering his face with his legs resting on the chair in front of him.[3] Recognized to be one of the students who could be capable of making a contract with a Black Demon weapon, Kimizuki feels that he is a star student of his class,[4] and is not afraid to remind other people of what he has accomplished. Rather than bragging, Kimizuki displayed his test results in a matter of fact way, it is simply the case he is clever. Also shown to be talented in a variety of areas, such as being able to fix and drive cars,[5] Kimizuki is shown to be an accomplished cook as well.[6]

There are moments where Kimizuki comes off as close-minded, such as showing surprise and anger when he learns that Yu, the worst performing student in class, may earn Cursed Gear before him.[4][7] Making a case that he is the fittest and smartest thus he deserves to be the first person to earn his Cursed Gear, Kimizuki even raised the matter to Guren Ichinose privately in his office about this decision.[8] In a desire to join the Moon Demon Company as fast as was possible, Kimizuki did not fully anticipate the influence of demon power that was involved. Being set on a goal can result in him not fully appreciating a situation, with Mikaela Hyakuya fighting his way through the regiment to reach Yu, he was expecting him to kill them.

After hearing that a student had fought off a vampire, Kimizuki actively sought him out. Finding Yu in the corridor, Kimizuki purposely bumped into him then accused him of starting a fight. Starting a rivalry between them, and engaging in physical violence as a part of it, Kimizuki challenges those seen as powerful. He is hot-headed and tends to get into verbal fights at the least with both Mitsuba and Yu. Invading Yoichi's personal space was done to check if he really had said anything. His response to being left behind on the highway as part of a prank was to catch up and draw his swords at Shinoa and Mitsuba, where Kimizuki was calm about being clear he is not to be taken lightly.

Compared to members in his squad, Kimizuki appears to be more standoffish and detached to them. When his squad formed, the members are quick to familiarize themselves with each other and referred to each other on a first name basis, but Kimizuki is referred to by his surname, which indicates a level of unfamiliarity between them. Not particularly interested in knowing his squad members either, it could possibly attribute to the fact that he only joined the Japanese Imperial Demon Army to gain access to medical help for his ailing sister. While aloof, Kimizuki still functions as part of the team, and is instinctively prepared to help in situations as the need arises; taking over cooking that has gone awry, to carrying Yu who was unconscious. Indeed being multi-talented, Kimizuki also makes use of his capabilities where he is the most helpful one when the squad runs into trouble.

In thinking about a situation, Kimizuki considers and acts to carry out a best course of action given the circumstances. Within a demon vision he stabbed himself rather than the apparition taunting him as a means of overcoming Kiseki-o's possession attempt, before decisively prevailing.[9] Taunting Lucal Wesker successfully prevented him joining other vampire nobles when that was a concern. Hearing that a battle was taking place outside, Kimizuki headed straight for Mirai to check on her, and wasted no time in attempting to escape the city as it came under heavy attack. Maintaining a level-head after hardships, and not getting caught up in a moment, Kimizuki pointed out to Yu that Mika being turned into cursed gear does not count as saving him, the only person to observe this. Entering a demon realm and cut, Kimizuki is prepared to sacrifice himself to deal with threats.

Shoot us both! Yoichi!

–Holding Sika Madu near a coffin to transport him and calling for Yoichi to help with the assault against the First in this way. Chapter 107 "Angel's Plan", page 36

Although he does not show affection publicly, Kimizuki does have a gentle side. One of the display of his kindness was that he removed his jacket at night and covered Yu with it, stating that he does not want his friend to catch a cold while battling with a demon inside his mind.[10] Kimizuki also became emotional, and cried when he learned that his sister was safe.[11] One of Kimizuki's most defining traits is his love for his Mirai. He will do anything to save and keep her alive. This was noted when Kiseki-o comments that he would not hesitate to betray his friends if it meant saving his sister.[12]

While prepared to follow orders and go along with plans, Kimizuki's patience wanes. While not physically hostile, Kimizuki angrily shouts at the lack of clarification on a matter.

Even though my sister was killed... ...I've kept my mouth shut and waited... And waited... ...Waited... Well, now I'm sick of waiting! We sat down and kept our traps shut... ...This whole damn time! Even though we don't know squat! But, despite everything you put us through, we still agreed to listen to you! Are you really still going to take that attitude with us?!

–Angry at Guren after viewing Mirai nearby. page 13-15

History

As a child, he and Mirai were experimented by the Hyakuya Sect to create a weapon of mass destruction, as part of the "Seraph of the End" plan which would result in the world being heavily devastated. Unknown to Kimizuki, this was known by Guren beforehand, thanks to intel provided by Mahiru eight years ago. When Kimizuki was eight years old, the apocalypse virus was released on Christmas 2012 and infected his sister.

Kimizuki Siblings

Kimizuki as a child, with his little sister Mirai

Three years later in 2015, when Kimizuki was eleven years old, one day he was about to go out to get food for Mirai when he heard from three other children that there was no more food and they have to leave the next day. Stating that he needed more time to get his sister ready, Kimizuki was told by one of them that he should ditch her. With it explained that since there were monsters everywhere, vampires that come out at night to hunt people, and all of the adults dead, Kimizuki was needed as he was smart and could drive. He heard the children speak that they could not carry an invalid and Kimizuki was asked to kill Mirai, where they claimed that this was his sister's request. When he refused, the children volunteered to do it for him, causing him to run into the apartment and lock them out. At some point, Kimizuki fled with Mirai, who he had to carry since the virus made her too weak to move.

In 2020, Kimizuki joined the Japanese Imperial Demon Army in order to pay for Mirai's medical expenses and get proper care for her. He sought to join the Moon Demon Company so that he could have his sister transferred to their medical division and give her access to the resources needed to keep her alive and cure her aliment. Like Yu, at some point he worked as part of Shibuya's Military Police until joining the Moon Demon Company. On campus he was supervized by Sergeant Shinoa through the same friendship-making routine in the regular classes as Yu. Having joined the Moon Demon Company class before Yu arrived, his friend if one was made is not shown, or his criteria may have been different. In any case he attends Guren's classes.

Story

Events of 2020

Second Shibuya High Arc

Shihō Kimizuki has learnt about the vampire-killing transfer student, and goes to intercept him. Locating Yūichirō Hyakuya, naturally, Kimizuki walks into him and picks a fight, earning himself the nickname "telephone pole" by Yu. Then beating him to the classroom, Kimizuki is sleeping with a book resting over his face and his feet over his desk where they are on the back of Yu's chair. When Guren sits Yu in front of him, Kimizuki is roused from his napping and recogizes him. Another fight is sparked which lasts until they are knocked out by Guren.

At some point in a class taught by Guren regarding learning spell circles, Kimizuki was seated behind Yoichi Saotome napping with a book resting on his face.[13] Later, Kimizuki approaches Guren in his office to ask about the Cursed Gear aptitude test. Detailing that he is the top of the class in all subjects, Kimizuki asks if Guren is thinking of giving the chance to use Cursed Gear to Yu. Explaining that he needs to do well in order to earn money, Kimizuki needs that and resources to cure his sister, Mirai Kimizuki. Although she was afflicted by the apocalypse virus, Kimizuki is told that he cannot even touch Cursed Gear yet because of his greed then learns that Yu already bested a demon once. Kimizuki is advised by Guren to make friends in order to resist the lure of the demon.

During a training exercise, students have to pair up. Due to Shinoa snatching Yoichi away quickly, Kimizuki is forced to work together with Yu. They nearly start another fight before being handcuffed together by their teacher, Second Lieutenant Sayuri Hanayori. Facing off against mannequins, Kimizuki and Yu go in opposite directions, which leads them to get hit and lose ten points right from the start.

After a messenger arrives, Kimizuki hears that his sister is in critical condition. Kimizuki intends to resume the test against the mannequins to get the good grades he needs, yet is punched by Yu who wants him to go see his sister as he might not ever be able to see her again. Relenting, Kimizuki is accompanied by Yu as they remain handcuffed. Seeing Mirai, he is informed by the healthcare provider that she pulled out of danger this time, but the treatment available to civilians is not enough.

But soon I'll fight in the Moon Demon Company. Then, I can put her in an army hospital. Please, just a little longer...

–Speaking of his intent to help Mirai. "The Worst Pair"

On their way back, Kimizuki blames Yu for making his grades drop, saying he will not make it into the Moon Demon Company now and can no longer save his sister. After a conversation involving him to not give up, Kimizuki eventually apologizes.

With the decision in other's hands, Kimizuki is recommended by Shinoa for the Black Demon Series. When the students receive their spell-craft exam grades, where Yu has earned a zero, Kimizuki displays his full marks of 100s in Latin spellcraft, English spellcraft, and Japanese spellcraft, which leads into another fight. After Guren partially releases the energies from his Mahiru-no-Yo sword, which has left most of the students debilitated, Kimizuki manages to stay on his feet, but he says his heart feels like it is being crushed. On the way to the contract ceremony chamber, Kimizuki agrees that Yoichi should not stay in the army because he is too nice.

Along with Yu, and Yoichi, he is one of the three members who proceed to make contracts with a black demon. Having finished first, Kimizuki mocks Yu once he finishes. With Yoichi having failed his test where he has become a man-eating demon, Kimizuki is ordered by Guren to kill him. Teaming up against him, Kimizuki nearly kills Yoichi until being called out to by Yu. Hesitating, the demon in control of Yoichi's body is left free to continue. Feeling that Yoichi should be killed as he is not coming back, Kimizuki finds Yu stubbornly trying to snap Yoichi out of it. When Yoichi prepares to attack a defenseless Yu, along with Shinoa he rushes to defend him. After Guren's words help Yoichi break free, Kimizuki is stunned this occurred. Having acquired cursed gear weapons, they are given their first mission.

Shinjuku Arc

Outside the walls of the city, Kimizuki is with Yoichi before Shinoa and Yu join them when Guren introduces them to the fifth member of their squad, Mitsuba Sangū. Under Shinoa's leadership, the now five person squad is then given their first vampire extermination mission by Guren in Harajuku.

When Yu jumps into a trap and attacks a Horseman who is chasing a girl, Kimizuki is the first to back him up. After they save the child, Kimizuki asks her about the vampires who used her as bait. Once the squad reaches the Omotesando Station, Kimizuki sees a lot of people kept as livestock for the vampires and asks why they are not trying to escape. He learns if they escape, the Horsemen will attack them because they do not have the vampires' protection. Vampires surprise them, and they realize the girl lied about the number of vampires present, yet Kimizuki helps kill the squad's foes anyway.

With the people kept in a vampire lair freed, elsewhere, Kimizuki hotwires a Hummer. Seeing Yu trying to drive it, Kimizuki narrowly avoids being run over, although has promised to teach him how to drive at another time. Reacting to Yu's excitement as he says how awesome that is, Kimizuki orders him to sit in the back. The two laugh upon observing that Shinoa is too short to even see above the wheel, where they are promptly the target of her materialized scythe. As Kimizuki drives with Yu next to him they decide not to make fun of Shinoa's height anymore.

Drawing near Shinjuku and finding it under attack, with a vampire noble in the road ahead pointed out, Kimizuki follows the direction to crash the car into Thirteenth Progenitor Crowley Eusford. They have a brief skirmish until Crowley is joined by seventeenth progenitors Chess Belle and Horn Skuld, yet receives orders to meet up with Ferid so they leave. Having entered the city, Kimizuki and the squad engage in fending off vampires. Receiving orders to join Guren at the 5th Street intersection, Kimizuki is given Cursed Gear Stimulants from Shinoa to help with his cursed gear connection.

Once reaching Guren, he sees Yu has come into contact with a family member of his, Mikaela Hyakuya. With the vampires on the opposing side bolstered with the arrival of Crowley as well, Kimizuki is ordered to retreat. Defeated and captured, Kimizuki's blood is drank by Horn Skuld. Recourse appears when Japanese Imperial Demon Army reinforcements arrive led by Shinya Hīragi and Kureto Hīragi, and Kimizuki carries Yu for medical attention after a violent transformation into a one-winged monster.

Post-Shinjuku Arc

Once Yu wakes up from his coma, Kimizuki and other members of the squad join him in his medical room, before telling them to be quiet since they are in a hospital. Kimizuki is red-faced at Shinoa's joke that he looked after Yu with "such loving tenderness" while Yu was unconscious.

Having been taken into custody, Kimizuki is interrogated, tied up, and along with Yoichi is presented to Yu during his interrogation. On the orders of Kureto he is stabbed in the right shoulder. Afterward, Kimizuki meets privately with Yoichi.

Kimizuki arrives to the meeting with his squad half an hour early along with Mitsuba and Yoichi. They enter the ruined city for training involving their cursed gear. Hearing Shinoa and Mitsuba teach them about different demons and what to do for their training, after a brief dispute, Kimizuki finds Yu beginning before he does. While he is unconscious as he speaks to his demon, Kimizuki raises with Shinoa about telling Yu the truth about what happened on the battlefield.

After Shinoa mentions it is chilly, Kimizuki drops his army jacket onto Yu to keep him warm, causing the rest of the group to go owl-eyed at him. Kimizuki explains why, blushes, and creeps to the fire to get warm himself. In response to Shinoa and Mitsuba teaming up to depict Kimizuki and Yu as a living couple, Kimizuki yells at them. As Yu makes contact with the demon, Kimizuki heads to fight against Horsemen that have appeared nearby.

Now his turn for training, Kimizuki struggles against his demon for over thirty hours, increasing his risk of losing control as he goes more wild than Yu did. In his mind, he battles against Kiseki-o while being tormented with memories of his sister. In a prefecture city four years ago, Kimizuki is eleven years old and Mirai is sick from the virus, but still conscious at this point. Saying he will get food for her, Kimizuki hears the demon tell him that he wanted to abandon his sister. When three other kids around the same age knock on the apartment door and tell him that no food is left; they plan to leave the next day, Kimizuki states he needs more time to get Mirai ready. One of them tells him to ditch her, and detail the threats of monsters and vampires with no adults around. With him needed because he is smart and can drive, Kimizuki is told to kill Mirai as an invalid who cannot be taken with them.

Hearing that this was Mirai's request, when they volunteer to do it for him, Kimizuki returns to the apartment then locks the door. With Kiseki-o using Kimizuki's pain and guilt and fear against him, he talks about Yu. Where he is dedicated to helping someone who is not even blood family, Kimizuki uses that motivation to stab himself with the knife instead of Mirai, which breaks him free of the demon's thrall.

Cutting across Kiseki-o, who promises to uses his darkness against him in the future, Kimizuki hears his demon mention that he would even betray his friends in order to save his sister. Upon awakening, Kimizuki attacks Yu to settle who is stronger. They fight using special abilities that according to Shinoa neither of them should have. Drawing on his weapon's special ability, Kimizuki generates the Devil's Coffin where it begins its countdown.

Now that we can both manage possession, don't you think it's time... we settled the question of who's better... for good?'

–Able to manifest his powers, Kimizuki is keen to spar with Yu. "Kiseki-o's Box"

In a meeting at Shinoa's apartment, the boys hear screaming and run in to see Mitsuba with a great pan of flaming omelet. Intervening, Kimizuki saves them and cooks breakfast. When Shinoa begins their meeting, which involves Yu's transformation in Shinjuku, she appears serious until making a joke that Kimizuki swings that way when his cooking is addressed, which he vehemently denies. He listens as Shinoa raises the struggle for power between Guren and the Hīragi family in the Demon Army. Human experimentation may be involved, with the possibility that Guren is using them. Where Yu states he wants to follow Guren, the rest of the squad agrees as well.

Nagoya Arc

The squad then depart for Nagoya, where Kimizuki drives them down the Tomei Expressway somewhere between Tokyo and their destination. A Horseman blocks their path, so Yu leaps out to slay it, where Kimizuki is told to swerve to avoid another one. A prank by Shinoa and Mitsuba on Yu, when they try to do the same to Kimizuki, he responds by putting his twin blades to their necks. Kimizuki lets Yu drive the rest of the way to the Ebina rest stop and is briefed on the mission by Shinoa.

After they arrive late, Kimizuki meets Sergeant Makoto Narumi and his squad. The two squads are paired together for this mission. Hearing Yu yell from his punishment having accepted the blame for being late, Kimizuki follows the others inside. There, his five member team is challenged by Guren who will fight with Mito Jūjō, and Shinya Hīragi, where they have ten seconds to prepare.

From Shinoa's battle plan, Kimizuki along with Yu are assigned to keep Guren busy. They are ordered to stay within the radius of her scythe, yet Kimizuki and Yu do not have time to explain their abilities. Where Yu clashes with him, Guren has slipped past him and in breaching their lines announces it is over and they are all dead. In a joint attack with Yoichi, he is scolded by Guren for being too slow. Where Shinoa could have been killed with a first strike, Kimizuki hears the squad was already done for with the loss of their commander.

Introduced to the other soldiers gathered as sixteen year old rookies, Kimizuki is one of the three mentioned by Guren as bearing a black demon weapon. Having his combat performance evaluated, Kimizuki hears Shinya used his special technique to shoot from behind, turning his and Yoichi's attention to their backs. While the squad is in agreement that they desperately need to work on their teamwork, Kimizuki moves out as the operation commences. The collective squads mobilize and head to Nagoya in a mission targeting vampire nobles.

Within Lucal Wesker's ward in Nagoya, Narumi and Shinoa's squads have ten minutes left before beginning their assignment. Their target is a Fifteenth Progenitor who has many other vampires in his vicinity. Kimizuki, along with Shinoa, and Narumi jump in when Yu charges at Lucal. After comrades are swung in the path of one another, where Lucal can banish cursed gear manifestations such as Tenjiryū, Kimizuki attacks, but is disarmed.

With the focus on him, it allows Rika Inoue to make the first successful blow against Lucal by stabbing him with her weapon from behind. When Shūsaku Iwasaki summons his demon Akahebi, which becomes a chain binding Lucal's left arm, the vampire reacts by cutting off his own limb, where Kimizuki's strike is avoided.

There is a risk of Lucal fleeing and joining up with other nobles, so Kimizuki taunts the noble. Wondering if he can regrow his arm if it is vaporized with a curse, Kimizuki instructs Lucal to beg for it if he wants it back, sending the vampire into a rage.

Hey, Vampire! What's this you left here? I've seen you monsters stick limbs back on after they get cut off... but if I vaporize it with a curse, can you regrow it, like a lizard does its tail?.... Ha ha! You'd get mad? I guess that means you can't. If you want this back... beg for it.... Hm? What was that? I couldn't—

–Taunting Lucal Wesker to dissuade him joining other nobles. Chapter 28 "Livestock Revolt"

With Lucal charging in, swatting away Shinoa and Mitsuba's attacks, Kimizuki finds Yoichi and Shinya fire at their collective target. Kimizuki's strategy results in Lucal dodging the ranged fire, for Yu to strike, where Narumi finishes him.

The two squads cheer as a vampire noble is successfully dealt with, where they experienced no casualties. Kimizuki does not receive the praise he was looking for from Yu, with Yoichi getting it instead.

Standing by on the streets of Nagoya, Shinoa Squad and Narumi Squad wait for the survivors to regroup. When Sergeant Aiko Aihara arrives with a bruised, battered, and bleeding face, Kimizuki notes that her squad only has seven survivors, so eight of them died. After Guren and his squad come above ground, they are all worse for the wear, yet Shinoa squad is reported by Narumi to have done very well.

Shinoa Squad and Narumi Squad are ordered to join Guren's squad and hunt down Crowley, with Chess, and Horn. With hostages having been taken at city hall, Kimizuki is part of the group who are to to stage an attack on Crowley that will last ten minutes. If they cannot kill him during that time, they will retreat and tackle the next mission with the numbers they have.

They reach Nagoya City Hall, and after Crowley catches Gekkouin fired at him by Yoichi, he listens as Guren and his squad discuss what to do. After careful planning, it is decided that Shinoa and Narumi squads will free the hostages while Guren will take his squad to attack the vampire nobles. They have five minutes to rescue as many hostages as they can, and act as a proper diversion for the main force travelling from Shinjuku. As soon as the five minutes are up everyone has orders to retreat to the Nagoya Airport immediately.

With the rescue underway, after Yoichi reports on the situation with Guren's squad and Yu insists on rescuing him, Kimizuki will join his team in Shinoa's plan that they only have five minutes for. They have specific instructions regrading their plan.

Stationed on the floor underneath Crowley is on, after Yu breaks through the floor and attacks him, he is blocked easily and almost decapitated, however Kimizuki parries the attack. Coverage from Mitsuba summoning Tenjiryū's manifestations, and Yu using Asura Kannon are not enough with Chess and Horn immediately stepping in to defend Crowley from them. Dramatically overpowered, the squad are only able to rescue Shinya. Their escape is covered by Norito Goshi's illusions yet they are forced to leave Guren behind.

Outside and away from danger, Yu breaks free of Kimizuki's grasp, where he hears his distress at leaving Guren behind. He does not comment on Yu asking if ignoring feelings and abandoning family is acceptable as long as it is for their mission. With him intending to go back, Kimizuki questions his reason for staying here, as it would be a pointless death if Yu died.

After Yu rushes off and challenges Crowley, Kimizuki has caught up and appears behind him. Calling on Kiseki-o to begin the count to nine, Kimizuki activates the devil's coffin power. When Kiseki-o gets to four, Kimizuki is invited by Yu to kill this bloodsucker together. Noticing Yu's horn, Kimizuki is warned by Guren he has been possessed and to grab him then run.

Telling Yu that that what he said before was right, in this screwed up world there is no point to living if they do not have a family to cling to. This is why it is his turn to rescue him, and with Kiseki-o finished with the countdown he captures Yu with the devil's coffin.

Joining with the rest of their squad, while Kiseki-o begs to kill Yu, who is in his coffin, Kimizuki orders him to only knock out the demon inside of Yu. To the others he reveals that Kiseki-o's special ability is to suck in and trap any enemy within melee range who has heard the entire count from nine. Having gotten away, Kimizuki orders Kiseki-o to spit Yu out and catches him in his arms. With Yu unconscious where the horn is gone, Kimizuki is glad that it worked as the demon possession has stopped.

They run toward Shinya, who orders them to move as vampire reinforcements are coming. Joining with Narumi Squad and many injured soldiers, they flee towards the airport. When Rika Inoue reports seeing a single vampire straight ahead, Kimizuki, along with everyone else are guided to keep moving forward as Shinya affirms they can handle one noble.

As Mika engages the Moon Demon Company, even with him identified as Yu's family, Kimizuki says they should stop him before he kills them. With Shinoa and Mitsuba out of Mika's way, Kimizuki drops Yu while trying to block him. After saying Mika cannot have Yu, he is knocked aside. In the commotion, after Mika is stabbed by Shinya, who in turn is cast away by Shinoa, he joins his squad in defending Yu's family from the other members of the Moon Demon Company. Speaking for them, when Yoichi says that they've already decided on their motto: "Family takes care of family", the squad then charges at the Moon Demon Company and help Mika flee with Yu.

Shortly after Mika flees with Yu, vampires rain down around the Moon Demon Company. After seemingly escaping the vampires, Shinoa squad, sans Yu, reach Nagoya Airport for what should be their rendezvous. While Mitsuba says the attacks against them have stopped, but the vampires are most likely still pursuing them, Kimizuki asks Shinoa if she has more information on their assignment.

A van pulls up at Nagoya Airport, and Kimizuki sees Aoi Sangū step out, along with Kureto. With Shinya and the members of Guren's squad immediately alarmed, Kimizuki and Yoichi recognize Kureto as the one who tortured them. After Kureto orders Aoi to kill the "sacrifices", Kimizuki and the squad are ordered by Shinoa to quickly prepare to retreat.

Chains launch from the ground at Aoi's direction, and when a pair of chains strike down at Narumi from above, Kimizuki and Mitsuba block the attack. Yelling at him to not give up yet, the retreat is attempted again amongst the carnage as many soldiers have been killed by the chains.

Yu and Mika then step into the fray, where Shinoa Squad with Narumi are surprised. Chains erupt out of one of the trucks, so Kimizuki along with Mika and Yu help block them. An army of vampires arrive at the airport, led by Krul Tepes. Cursing the insolent humans for their recent attack, as the vampires and humans wage war, Kimizuki and the squad are helped to escape by Shinya and Guren Squad. Ordered to run, they fight their way through enemies yet Kimizuki warns Yu that he has run too far ahead.

The army unveils Mirai, whose body is on the control of a seraph that erupts from the van and floats in the sky. Upon cursing the sinners and speaking that ruin will fall down upon them, Kimizuki recognizes her where he is shocked and horrified at the scene.

MIRAI?! WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE?!

–Seeing his sister being used as a seraph experiment. Chapter 40 "Trumpet of the Apocalypse"

Chains erupt from what remains of the van and pierce through Mirai, making her scream in pain and while Kimizuki is enraged, he is stabbed by Guren. Ordered to hold still because they have not yet offered enough blood to control the seraph, Kimizuki is unable to reach her. As Yu loses control over his Seraph, Kimizuki begs the berserk Yu to save his sister.

When Yu as a seraph has dealt with Abaddon being brought into the world, as the squad now with Mika and Narumi makes their escape from Nagoya Airport, it is announced they are now seceding from the Japanese Imperial Demon Army.

Three months later, the group is near the sea. Kimizuki is chopping wood while children play nearby.

Post-Nagoya Arc

With Shinoa, and Mitsuba, he listens to Yu and Mika's exchange from outside the cabin they are in. Horsemen then attack the village, and the group fight to repel the monsters. Afterward, they are thanked by the villagers.

Fighting horsemen

Shinoa Squad prepares to fight Horsemen.

When Narumi returns with food he found in a supermarket two kilometers southwest, a can of red bean jam is passed to Kimizuki.

Their group notices that Mika drank their blood and approach him. After Yoichi asks if their blood was okay, Mika replies it was gross. Accordingly, Shinoa is startled about the pure and sweet blood of a virgin and the frightening possibility that unchaste blood got in there, before shooting a glance at Mitsuba with an aghast expression. In response to this display, Kimizuki shares Yu and Mika's identical blank expressions.

Discussing their future plans, Kimizuki hears Mitsuba summarize that the Japanese Imperial Demon Army will probably hunt them down and kill them, which puts the villagers at risk. They mention the impossibility of travelling overseas because of how acidic and poisonous the blood-red oceans are. Monsters even worse than Horsemen swim in their depths as well.

Surrendering is raised as a possibility, and while Mika rejects the idea of returning Yu to the army to prevent him from becoming a demon, Kimizuki states he will do absolutely anything to save his sister and even betray the rest of them.

But... is surrender really the best answer? We need to pick our path very, very carefully. Right now the Demon Army still has my sister. And I... I will do absolutely anything necessary to save her. And just so you know, that means even betraying you all to do it.

–Discussing with the group on their next course of action. Chapter 43" Where It All Begins"

When Yu suggests meeting up with Guren, the idea is vetoed by Shinoa as they cannot trust him. According to Makoto, this is the the circle of discussion the squad has been stuck in, so Mika is asked if he has anything to offer.

Mika shares the vampire queen, his sponsor, participated in the Seraph of the End experiments so they may be able to trust her. Although she has been captured, rescuing her might be their least complicated option. Kimizuki listens to Makoto asking if vampires are less dangerous than the Demon Army, where Mika answers yes. Vampires actually care little about humans and are only concerned by power-hungry humans. Agreeing with that plan, Kimizuki states he does not trust anyone aside from those standing right there.

Consequently, their next objective is to rescue Krul Tepes before Yu becomes a full demon as he is being possessed for increasing lengths of time. While the group is on the beach, Yu notices the sound of a car engine. After Yoichi rushes to the roof of a nearby building and uses his cursed gear to see Ferid Bathory and Crowley driving toward them, Kimizuki along with the others are ordered by Shinoa to take their curse stimulant pills and flee.

They run, and while Yu and Mika raise that Ferid is a seventh progenitor, the second strongest vampire in Japan after the queen herself, as they talk about Ferid's mansion and the past, Kimizuki tells them to focus on running. Seeing that Crowley has caught up to them, where Mitsuba has been attacked and knocked off her feet, Kimizuki asks Yoichi what should they do.

Devils coffin

Summoning the devil's coffin to capture Crowley

Yoichi manifests his demon to the point that curse marks cover his face, and after firing, Kimizuki steps in next by summoning the Devil's Coffin. Outmatched, Yu surrenders to Crowley and Kimizuki sees Ferid arrive and present Akane Hyakuya's head in a jar to them, which also sends Yu's demon out of control. Addressing Crowley to ask for a temporary truce, Kimizuki hears Crowley say he does not mind, and Ferid agrees. Unable to escape or fight, there is little choice but to co-operate with what the vampire nobles want.

Let's call a temporary truce. You two came looking to talk, right?

–To Crowley and Ferid. Chapter 46 "Return of the Hero"

Getting onto a bus, Kimizuki and his squad are joked about as a "ton of packed lunches," where Ferid is on a "field trip". Kimizuki hopes he is not referring to their squad as the meal. As Ferid taunts Narumi about his fallen squad, Kimizuki wrests the attention to himself by seeking information.

Shut up and let him talk. You were going to tell us about the Seraph of the End, right? Quit wasting time and explain exactly what this 'reviving' involves.

–With Makoto unsettled by Ferid's comments Kimizuki ends that conversation and presses Ferid to discuss something of interest Chapter 47: "Prayer's Price"

Teased about Mirai, when Yu wakes up Kimizuki says he finally realizes what Crowley and Mika meant when they said dealing with Ferid is a pain.

Taking a bathroom break, in the boys' lavatory, as Yu rants about Guren taunting them with information but never giving them answers, Kimizuki joins in with others in telling him to quit shouting. The girls then enter the boy's bathroom where they discuss their situation and the Seraph of the End. Going back to the topic at hand, the squad decide they must betray Ferid before he betrays them. Mika tells them they are not capable of killing him, and while Yu mentions that Asuramaru may be able to kill Ferid if he lets him take control for three seconds, Kimizuki says demons are even worse than vampires.

They crouch together and whisper to come up with a signal of when to attack Ferid en masse. Returning to the bus, after a short ride, the group disembark at Osaka Bay to see an army of foreign vampires.

Osaka Arc

As the only humans, Kimizuki observes the exchange between some of the highest ranking nobles in the world. Witnessing third progenitor Lest Karr ripping out Ferid's heart, where he questions him until Ferid begins turning into a demon from blood loss, after getting his heart back, Kimizuki is attacked by Ferid and fed on to the point it nearly kills him.

Ferid bites kimizuki

Ferid bites Kimizuki.

Back on the bus, Kimizuki gasps for air. Anemic, Kimizuki sishes he had meat. When Yu says he will go out there and look for meat on his own, Kimizuki chucks a can at his head.

Krul and Ferid have been sentenced to sunlight exposure torture by second progenitor Urd Geales, so the squad are driven by Crowley to Ferid's Mansion. In response to Shinoa's surprise by how luxurious the mansion is, where she wonders if he makes good money, Kimizuki tells her to stop being stupid as money does not matter anymore. Kimizuki is considered by Mika who is frustrated at Yu for thinking about reviving Akane, where the price for her and other's revival could mean someone in Shinoa Squad could die.

Tenth Progenitor Fuola Honte appears and seeing him knock back Yu and Narumi, he exclaims that this vampire is stronger than Lucal Weskar. Ordered into battle formation, Kimizuki finds Crowley appear and cut Fuola apart. Kimizuki asks why there is a vampire noble and what is their goal. To test their strength for what is ahead, Kimizuki and the others are challenged by Crowley to fight him in their battle formation, and they lose easily.

Hearing Yu announce that if Crowley used to be human that makes him their ally, Kimizuki asks if he got stupider. If they want to be able to rescue Krul and Ferid, he learns from Crowley that they must be strong enough to fight a fifth progenitor.

While Yu follows Crowley inside, Kimizuki remains outside the residence with the rest of the squad. Watching as Narumi interrogates Mika on his fading humanity, where he presents his blood, Kimizuki intervenes and says he does not like this method. He adds that they are no longer technically human either.

Heading inside the manor, Kimizuki joins in raiding the fridge before cooking a meal. Kimizuki, with Yu, and Yoichi end up eating too much and are surprised that Shinoa, Mitsuba, and Makoto are still able to eat dessert. He then listens with the squad to Crowley's discussion about the cellar holding the corpses of their loved ones, with special mention going towards Yu for his risk of going berserk.

Shiho tears of relief

Hearing that Mirai is still alive

After Yu gathers himself, they all go into the basement, and minutes later, Kimizuki finds Guren joining them. Greeting him along with the rest of the squad members, Kimizuki is happy to see that Guren is not possessed. Asking him about Mirai, upon learning that she is still alive, Kimizuki cries tears of relief. Then asking who is using his sister if Guren is not in control of the experiments on Mirai, he listens to his explanation on the person believed to be manipulating the Hīragi Family.

Listening to Guren, when Mika attacks him, Kimizuki and Yoichi step in to deter Mika from attacking again. After hearing out Guren's plan to resurrect everyone that died in the Apocalypse, which involves heavy involvement from Yu, he takes to the library with Shinoa, and Makoto. There they struggle to comprehend the tomes found in the basement. Hearing a commotion, Kimizuki races outside with everyone to find Yu face down on the lawn.

At some point, he with his squad and Guren's squad gather around to listen to the summary of the plan against Ky Luc, who is guarding the burning crosses that Krul and Ferid are strapped to. Seeing Guren's squad getting along with each other so well, Kimizuki comments to Yoichi that he is not friends with his teammates. With Shinoa disagreeing with this assessment, Kimizuki hears Yoichi say that they can get to that point if they hang out together for as many years as Guren's squad did.

Three days later, Kimizuki participates with Guren and Narumi in charging at Ky Luc to free the vampires whose information they need. While the joint exercise resulted in Ferid being freed, they were unable to save Krul, who was taken away by Ky Luc. After he leaves with her, Kimizuki and the rest of Shinoa squad surround Yu and Mika until certain that Ky Luc is gone.

Gren and Kimizuki ready to go

Taken with everyone else to Guren's home back in Nagoya, Kimizuki goes down into the basement with the rest of Shinoa and Guren squads to see a large barrier in the celler. Finding Guren and Mika in front of the barrier, alongside Ferid and Crowley, he learns details on Saitō, who made a reference to Michaela, "Saitō's angel" and that Mika may be one.

At some point, when Yu gives chase to another seraph, the Sixth Trumpet that was confined within the barrier, Kimizuki races outside with everyone to see the forest being filled with Horsemen being created. Called by Yu to give the drug that he has been using on himself to control his own seraph on the Sixth Trumpet, if it works, it should work on Kimizuki as well. Approaching Guren to acquire that drug, when Ferid gives it to him, Kimizuki hears his idea that he will sacrifice anything to save his sister, including his friends. It is something Kimizuki agrees with.

Joining with Guren and wondering if he is going to be lectured on the fact he is now doing the same thing as Guren did, Kimizuki is asked if he wants to do this. As they are racing towards Yu and the Sixth Trumpet, Kimizuki asks why do they have to keep doing this over and over again. The answer from Guren is that it is because they are alive, and that they are living for their families, even if it means doing something unforgivable or forbidden. In helping to deliver the substance, Kimizuki plays a decisive role in pacifying the boy whose body is controlled by the Sixth Trumpet. When he falls, Kimizuki is ready to catch him and they find he is still alive.

Shibuya Arc

Shinoa's demon Shikama Dōji has become active elsewhere due to recent events. Making their way to Shibuya, where Kureto has been struggling against this demon's influence, now Shinoa is becoming susceptible to his possession. Kimizuki stands next to the stretcher holding Shinoa as she is being transformed into a vampire[14] and watches as Kureto sends her to the examination room.[15] He calls Yu’s name in shock as he witnesses him declared an experimental subject by Kureto and also taken away.[16]

He is near Narumi as they stand around Yu with Mitsuba and Yoichi nearby as they hear what sounds like a battle. After a moment, Kimizuki takes off to go and check on his sister.[17] Reaching her just as Mirai is activated as the Seraph of the End in response to the attack on Shibuya led by the Hyakuya Sect, Kimizuki bursts into the room demanding to know what the scientists present are doing.

Telling the scientists not to abuse his sister like that, Kimizuki responds to one that she is not some test subject, reiterating that Mirai is his sister.[18] Calling her as she screams with seraph wings emerging from her back, the staff members in the room are suddenly killed. Kimizuki turns to see who was responsible, it is Saitō stood directly behind him with the murdering chains above his head.[19] Apprehensive, Kimizuki asks Saitō who he is before turning as the First who is in control of Shinoa's body also enters the room.[20]

Positioned near Mirai, he is confused not knowing who either of these people are before focusing on his sister.[21] Saitō and the First in Shinoa's body's conversation turns to Mirai, and Kimizuki tells the First to not dare when they reach towards her. Kimizuki finds Saitō intercede on his behalf and is told to take the girl and run. He is advised to make his way towards Shinjuku and to find Saitō's allies there.

Surprised when the First frees themselves from the chain restraint by slashing Saitō's head off, Kimizuki finds he is still being spoken to. Kimizuki hears that the demon army was founded by the First for his personal use and if he stays he will only be experimented on further. Carrying Mirai, he does indeed run and is called to by Yoichi who guides him away.[22]

Running through the ruined streets of Shibuya, with further explosions occurring in the fight between the army, and the Hyakuya Sect, as well as Saito fighting Shikama Doji in Shinoa's body, Kimizuki carries Mirai on his back. He shouts to Yoichi to just forget about what is going on and run, they have to get out of here. Not sure specifically where, Kimizuki does not trust anyone, but means to leave Tokyo completely having to save his sister.[23]

Calling to Guren when he spots him ahead, Kimizuki then appears stunned when he is told that Guren has to kill his sister. Taking a moment to register the words, Kimizuki grits his teeth in asking if Guren is serious, and whether this is some kind of joke. Dawning on him that it is not, Kimizuki calls upon Kiseki-o to give him power. He is then left standing alone before turning and being filled with horror. Mournfully doubting what has happened, Kimizuki asks Guren to tell him as such, that he would never kill Mirai. With Guren holding Mirai above him with his sword, Kimizuki becomes furious and repeats he will kill Guren while transforming into a demon.[24]

Knocked over by Yoichi firing Gekkouin at point blank range, Kimizuki lays on the ground as a human with tears from his eyes.[25] Unconscious, he is carried by Yoichi as he is brought to Shinoa and Mitsuba.[26]

Conscious[27] Kimizuki is driving and panics at the dozens of buildings that have just gone flying. Electing to forget this as building tops fall, Kimizuki decides to save his sister since that takes priority over everything.[28] Hearing from Yoichi that Yu can be seen and he is crying, asking if he is kidding him, Kimizuki instantly decides to head back resolving to save him. He shouts to Yoichi of the obstruction ahead as he continues to drive towards Yu.[29]

His head clutched by Mitsuba, Kimizuki tells her to shut up as he is already going as fast as he can, before raising whether she wants him to cause an accident.[30] Warning them of a sharp turn incoming, Kimizuki shouts that he will have to slam the breaks so the squad will have to grab onto something fast. Asking if Shinoa is able to use her demon to grab a corner, he follows her plan to maintain the speed.[31] With his glasses grasped by Yoichi, Kimizuki questions what he was trying to grab before noticing that Yoichi has been pulled out of the vehicle. Kimizuki uses his foot to anchor himself to the steering wheel and acquires Yoichi, to pull him, Mitsuba and Shinoa back in. He does not agree with Shinoa's assessment that the power of the first vampire is amazing.[32]

Post-Shibuya Arc

He waves to Yu when they are noticed.[33] Seated within an apartment room after escaping Demon Army territory, Kimizuki has no clue what Yu is talking about and asks how dumb is he. Telling Yu to start from the beginning, before ordering him to speak normally, Kimizuki replies whether Yu wants to start something before stepping outside with him when that is the case.[34]

Examining Mirai, he is thankful there is no sign of degradation even without refrigeration and Kimizuki speculates it is due to all the experiments she went through. Saying for Mirai not to worry and that he will have her better in no time, Kimizuki announces he is ready to battle Yu.[35] Clashing with him, Kimizuki thinks how stupidly fast Yu is. Knocked back he considers how Yu is nothing like he was before and is much better, before wondering how since they both have black demons.

Feeling that he is going easy on him, Kimizuki appears livid and shouts that Yu should quit insulting him. Although Kimizuki states he is not so weak that he needs Yu to coddle him, a single hit from Yu's weapon is sufficient to almost KO Kimizuki. Whilst Kimizuki announces he is not out of this yet, he is unable to defend against multiple attacks and wonders how he is this weak. Shouting that he will save his sister, Kimizuki declares he cannot afford to lose.[36]

Approached by Kiseki-o as Kimizuki sits cross-legged in his realm, he is calmly lambasted for being pathetic and just screaming that he wants to save his sister for show, but deep in his heart he has given up. Not replying to Kiseki-o saying that in reality he just wants a peaceful life, to hang out with friends, mess about and have fun, Kimizuki answers that it happened again. He was too weak and let them kill his sister while he just watched.

I!! Will save my sister!! I can't afford to lose!!

–Shouting his driving force yet internally Kiseki-o feels this is for show and that Kimizuki has given up on his sister since he just wants a peaceful regular life. "A Demon's Tale" page 29

Agreeing that Kiseki-o is right on his inadequacies, Kimizuki feels he is just running away. Compared to Yu and the Lt. Colonel he is justifying excuses not to try. Informed that he is very rational and cares a lot about his friends as he tries to be the adult in the room, Kimizuki hears he has lost sight of his own desires. Questioning what it is that he desires, Kimizuki wonders whether he is weak because he has to figure that out for himself but has not. Asking whether his desire to keep everyone safe is enough, Kimizuki is told how Kiseki-o wants to hear his soul and voice. He is to forget his sister and friends then entertain his selfish, childish and ugly desires.[37]

As he cries, Kimizuki states he is sick of it and wants to win. He cannot stand Yu showing him up all the time. After Kiseki-o's arm breaches his chest, curse marks sizzle over his face and two demon horns appear out of Kimizuki's head before Yu. Twin coffins appear in front of and behind Yu before firing projectiles at him. They levitate on either side of Kimizuki and he is in control of his own mind. Answering that his rapid gain in power was due to him taking a page from Yu's book, Kimizuki clarifies that he tried being dumb for once. Conceding that Yu is still more powerful than himself, at least for now, Kimizuki says soon he will outstrip him in strength. He considers Yu's words on them training together since it is better to have stronger friends.[38]

After a scream, Kimizuki returns to the apartment with Yu and asks what happened. Wondering why the floor is covered in vomit, Kimizuki deems Yoichi useless for not being able to tell him why this is. Hearing Yu say that Asuramaru's sister is gone, Kimizuki again turns to Yoichi for answers before seeing Krul approach where he wonders why she is wearing different clothes.[39]

Unable to believe that Yu is teasing Krul, he states that she is a third progenitor who could kill them both without breaking a sweat if she wanted to.[40] Kimizuki does not agree with Yu's judgement that they are the closest of family, and hears Krul say that Asuramaru's real name is Ashera.[41] With Yu having difficulty with the name, Kimizuki informs Krul that Yu is dumb and to ignore him before offering to explain. With Krul leaving due to the smell, instead, Kimizuki reveals to Yu that vomiting is basically barf. Asked why the others did so, Kimizuki kicks a drinks can as he replies to not ask him, he does not get what morons think. Raising that drinking now of all times is dumb, Kimizuki then holds Yoichi up and guides him to let his curse run rampant for a bit. Speeding up his metabolism will process the alcohol faster.[42]

Noticing the darkening aura around her, Kimizuki addresses Yu to point out that Krul is starting to look really scary and he means it that they should probably stop messing around and get serious.[43] Told that it was Guren who raised Yu, Kimizuki replies that he does not know or care.[44] He stands as Yu begs Krul to help him rescue Mika, then addressing Krul as her majesty, Kimizuki says he will shut Yu up for her when he is enthused by the reply. Kimizuki looks to Mitsuba when Krul asks them how much of the situation do they understand, then raises his hand to show himself as one of the black demon weapon holders.[45] With Mahiru Hīragi mentioned, rather than her possessing Guren, he is of the view that she was more likely manipulating the Lieutenant Colonel.[46]

Surprised when Krul reveals Shikama Dōji to be in possession of Shinoa's body,[47] he also raises that Krul and Guren know each other when the latter comes crashing into the room.[48] Kimizuki is called upon to put up a barrier outside to turn Mika into cursed Gear.[49] With Yu convinced this is to save Mika and Shinoa, he shoves Yu where Kimizuki is incredulous at how stupid Yu can be to let Guren convince him that easily. Kimizuki shouts that the Lt. Col killed Mika and questions if Yu remembers. Hearing that turning Mika into cursed gear will save him, Kimizuki challenges Yu to think how that would count as saving him. That would just be turning Mika into a tool that they use. Before Guren can finish what he would say, Kimizuki has transformed into a demon and does not believe him at all as he strikes Guren. Shouting that Guren killed his sister and cursing him, Kimizuki has not forgiven him for that. Asking if Guren insists he is going to save everyone, Kimizuki wonders is he going to resurrect her too.[50]

Alert in response to Shinoa regaining consciousness,[51] Kimizuki supposes that what she has to tell them concerns Shinoa really being Guren's ally and that all this is according to plan. Angered once more, Kimizuki questions if Shinoa is going to say that they are all just guinea pigs and that she has been laughing at them this whole time.[52] Wanting to believe that Guren will save everyone including their families, Kimizuki is unconvinced since there is no proof. He listens as Guren shares his guilt at causing the catastrophe.[53] Along with the rest of the squad, Kimizuki is asked to help Guren at which point his swords are sheathed. Kimizuki is surprised that Guren wants to resurrect all of humanity.[54]

Joining Yu on the building's rooftop, Kimizuki clarifies with Guren on whether he is looking at a spell circle. With a writing utensil passed to him, Kimizuki is ordered to handle the standard parts of the circle namely the style for subduing a black demon and sets about doing that. With Yu unsure of how to form one, Kimizuki shouts that he was in the same class as them and whether he does not remember. It is the basic spell circle, the first one they learned, and Kimizuki adds for Yu not to overcomplicate it.[55] He is irked to discover that both Yu and Yoichi have forgotten the details. Telling them to forget it, Kimizuki states he will draw the Western quadrant too before guiding Mitsuba to take the Eastern quadrant. He busies himself with inscribing some inscription on the outer ring of the circle.[56]

With Mika's sword pulled out of Mahiru who is a demon, and placed in the ground, Kimizuki stands opposite Yu with it in between them.[57] As he helps construct the spell circle[58] Kimizuki then faces Yu who says he has heard Mika call for him.[59] Seeing it emit light, Kimizuki remarks how the spell circle has activated[60] and reacts to Guren's announcement that they are going to save Mika.[61] He follows the others in wishing Yu well when he heads to help Mika. Asking if Yu gets it now, Kimizuki states for him to get in there and subdue that demon before joining hands in the centre with Yu, Yoichi and Mitsuba. He makes no comment on his previous issues with turning Mika into a demon, neither Yu hearing Mika's voice which is something a demon should not be able to do.[62]

After Yu has used the spell circle to access the world that Mika is in, Kimizuki is contacted via Kiseki-o's coffin. After registering the communication, Kimizuki speaks to Yoichi that apparently their demons are collaborating with Asuramaru who is in league with Shikama Doji. Shouting that Yu is fighting their demons, Kimizuki states they need to stop feeding them power now.[63]

Yoichi! Yu's fighting our demons! We have to stop feeding them power now!

–Aware of the situation in Mika's dream world Kimizuki helps Yu by undermining Kiseki-o. Chapter 102: "He's Calling for Me", page 35

While Yu physically lies unconscious in the spell circle, Kimizuki observes him. Following Yoichi's concerns, Kimizuki notes how Yu is not waking up at all. Addressing him as stupid Yu, he tells him to finish the spell already. Continuing that he should quit making them worry, Kimizuki labels Yu a dolt and calls him Octopus Face. To illustrate his vision, Kimizuki squishes Yu's mouth together to share with Yoichi and Mitsuba what he means. Hearing a cry, Kimizuki turns to Shinoa.[64]

It is recollected that before Yu entered the spell circle he was asked by Guren whether he remembered how to subdue a demon and Kimizuki commented that Yu had the memory of a gerbil. With Yu enthusiastic that he could do this, Kimizuki remarked for him to shut up.[65] Asked whether weakening and subduing his demon is what they done, Kimizuki answered yes.[66]

Standing near Mitsuba and Yoichi around Yu, he reacts to a chain emerging from his chest. Registering it, and that Saito's words can be passed through it,[67] Kimizuki is handed an injection to control his demon's heart by Mahiru. Acting in accordance with her, Guren, and Saito's plan, Kimizuki injects himself while stating they do not have much choice but to trust them with Yu and Mika being in trouble.[68]

Using Kiseki-o's coffins, Kimizuki brings himself and Yoichi to where Sika Madu is located. Swords drawn, Kimizuki shouts for Yu to get up already. With Sika Madu speaking, he calls for stupid Yu to get up again. After the First has hacked away the many chains assailing him, Kimizuki addresses Yoichi to alert that he is coming. Getting close to Sika Madu, he directs Kiseki-o to take the First to another world. The coffin materializes yet Kimizuki is cut apart at the waist in the demon world. Taking ahold of Sika Madu's scythe, Kimizuki shouts for Yoichi to shoot them both.[69] Kimizuki is visualized when Yu is reminding demon Mika of his family.[70]

Send him to another world... Kiseki-o!

–Having regained control over his demon, Kimizuki invokes him to send Sika Madu to another world via a generated coffin. Chapter 107 "Angel's Plan", page 35

Having recovered to the point where he can move, Kimizuki calls to Yu. With it mentioned he came here to save him, Kimizuki answers Yu took too damn long. Questioning if Yu rescued Mika and seeing the sword, Kimizuki enquires if he is powerful. With the answer yes, Kimizuki replies good, if all of them work together, can they take the First out here and now.[71] Envisioned when Yu is sharing his desire to protect everyone,[72] Kimizuki's sword is thrown into Sika Madu's back when he and Yoichi join Yu with Mika in attacking the First. Not reacting to the three seraphs above them, Kimizuki calls Sika Madu a monster and tells him to shut it.[73] After Yu with Mika slashes across Sika Madu, he asks did he get him.[74] Kimizuki reacts to the sounds coming from the seraphs.[75]

Watching Yu with Mika, hearing the latter has got his memories back, Kimizuki states it is good to hear.[76] Beside Yoichi he interacts with Yu when the seraphs above them are raised. Where Yu does now know what they are, Kimizuki says they are in his heart. Asked what is going on, Kimizuki replies not to ask him. Questioning if they beat the First or not, to hear that he ran, Kimizuki is aghast they have not beaten him. Feeling it is probably okay for them to return to their bodies, Kimizuki says the Lt. Colonel and the others are waiting. Asking what Yu wants to discuss, Kimizuki is thanked for coming to help before teleporting away.[77]

Probably okay to go back for now. The Lt. Colonel and the others are waiting.

–Learning that the First hasn't been beaten and escaped, Kimizuki feels it's fine for them to return. Chapter 109 "Moving Pieces", page 17

Huffing as he gains consciousness in his body, Kimizuki is awake after finding it hard to do so while still trying to keep their demons from going berserk.[78] Heading over and calling the Lt. Colonel,[79] Kimizuki then observes Shinoa who is speaking with Yu.[80] After Yu takes to carrying Shinoa who he believes to be ill, Kimizuki raises how the substance she took was poisonous before asking if she is going to be all right.[81]

With Yu asking what that noise is, Kimizuki sees it is a truck coming towards them. Finding it is travelling right at them, Kimizuki moves out the way of the vehicle being driven by Ferid.[82] With Ferid stating that they can come along for the next stage, Kimizuki shouts to Guren whether he really expects them to get in the truck with him. Kimizuki listens as Guren details how they are moving to a location where nobody can touch them.[83]

Lt. Colonel! Do you really expect us to get in that truck with him?!

–Questioning Guren when Ferid has arrived to transport them. Chapter 110 "Expose the Past to the Sun", page 35

Akihabara Arc

Seated near Mitsuba in the back of a truck being driven by Ferid through a city, Kimizuki interacts with Yu among others.[84] Where Yu has mentioned that he will destroy the truck and walk away if Guren does not answer his questions, Kimizuki appears startled at the line of conversation.[85] When Yu with Mika have clashed against Guren with Mahiru, he remains a bystander to the situation. After Yu has questioned whether Guren has killed other family members such as Kimizuki's, he appears serious.[86] Concerned at the intensity of the sword strikes,[87] Kimizuki remarks here they go when the fight resumes.[88]

Having disembarked the truck, Kimizuki observes Yu and Guren locked in battle.[89] Listening as Yu proclaims that Guren is family too, Kimizuki and others are called to agree with him. Standing before Guren as they gather round, along with the others, Kimizuki awaits Guren to join their hands in the centre.[90] Waiting for Guren, he maintains the hand union.[91]

Having resumed being transported, Kimizuki listens to Yu's protests against Guren not telling them his plan. Sat beside Mitsuba, when Yu questions whether anyone agrees with him that Guren should say the truth now, Kimizuki speaks if it is a long story then why not start telling it now.

If it's a long story... ...Why not start telling it now? We've already waited plenty long enough.

–While being driven, he is in favor of Guren revealing details of his plan. Chapter 113: "Everyone's Secrets", page 13

Continuing that they have already waited plenty long enough, Kimizuki places his hand on Mirai who is lying nearby. Even though his sister was killed, Kimizuki says he has kept his mouth shut and waited.[92]

Reiterating that he has waited with an increasing sense of anger, Kimizuki then shouts that now he is sick of waiting. On his feet, Kimizuki thunders how they sat down and kept their traps shut this whole damn time, even though they don't know squat. Despite everything Guren put them through, they still agreed to listen to him. Having to be held back by Yoichi, he questions whether Guren is still going to take that attitude with them. Remaining standing, Kimizuki awaits Guren to say one sentence they all want to hear, then registers his words that he will bring their families back to life.[93]

Listening as Yu discusses how Guren's ultimate goal was to bring back everybody killed by the catastrophe,[94] Kimizuki also hears Shinoa's concern at whose fault it was when Shikama Doji and the Demon Army were involved.[95] After Yu raises how the talk of blame is meaningless, where it is fine to do what they had to do to survive because they are family, Kimizuki affirms that he is right.[96] Placing his hand in the centre, Kimizuki listens to Yu's words concerning focusing on the future.[97]

When Mika raises a possible plan of finding a way to control the seraphs so people can be resurrected without retribution being enacted, after Guren states there is in fact a massive price, Kimizuki hears how the idea of getting his family back involves becoming cursed.[98] Kimizuki keeps his hand in the circle while Yu speaks.[99] Arriving at the Akihabara building, and taking the elevator down to the fifteenth underground floor, Kimizuki carries Mirai wrapped in a blanket in a large room containing many coffins. Speaking to Guren, he questions what is the price for this.[100]

Well? What's the price for this?

–Having arrived at the Akihabara building where there is the possibility of resurrection. Chapter 114 "Everyone's Goals", page 33

A curse of eternal life can befall one person from the group that sets off the resurrection spell, yet it is Guren's words that either all of humanity, or only Mika can be restored since he is not human that Kimizuki reacts to. Remarking so that is what this is, Kimizuki listens intently as Guren orders them to pay close attention to Yu and then choose.[101] After Yu calls Mika as his sword, and Guren commands everyone to restrain him, Kimizuki draws his weapons.[102] Along with Mitsuba, with Shinoa nearby, Kimizuki is remembered by Mika as beholding the cat on top of Yoichi's head when outside at some point.[103]

In response to a horn appearing on Yu's head, Kimizuki is a member of the everyone who Guren calls in restraining and restoring him.[104]

Kiseki-o.

–With one word Kimizuki brings a coffin to help Ferid prevent Yu's escape where a berserk squad member and world resurrection is at stake. Chapter 115: "Choices and Decisions" page 33

Given his commitment to preventing Yu flee, it is likely Kimizuki's boot that shows he is near Yoichi, and behind Crowley and Guren.[105] Similarly, based on the identical wording he has used before, Kimizuki is the one calling for stupid Yu, who is enraged as a demon, to snap out of it.[106] Beside Yoichi, he helps restrain Yu to the ground by his legs. Calling to Guren as Yu's demonic state does not subside, Kimizuki hears the power of his demon is waning and to keep talking in an attempt to reach him.[107]

After Yoichi and Mitsuba have implored Yu to return, he makes his case that they are family too. Interrupting Mitsuba who spoke how each of their family is important, Kimizuki builds on what she mentioned. Speaking to Yu how he even said it, Kimizuki details how him and his sister are all his family. Saying for Yu to quit this crap, Kimizuki adds for him to come back to his senses.[108]

Where Yu is slightly calmed, Kimizuki awaits any developments.[109] He is visualized along with the rest of the squad when Asuramaru is telling Yu to remember his real family.[110] When Yu regains consciousness in Shinoa's lap, Kimizuki observes.[111] His name is spoken by Mika when he reminds Yu that his family said they loved him and begged him not to go.[112]

Above ground, it is discussed how Yu has devoured two demons so will need a ton of energy to maintain them both before he means to leave Tokyo. As the squad discuss whether Yu would attack nearby settlements for resources, when Shinoa feels Shibuya would be too well defended, Kimizuki feels differently. Judging that Shibuya is still possible, Kimizuki puts it forward that Yu may pick it knowing that they would dismiss it. When Krul speaks that Yu would go so far as to kill guards, Kimizuki turns to her.[113]

No. Shibuya's still possible. He may pick it knowing we'd dismiss it.

–Sharing Shinoa's view that Yu may attack settlements, but not ruling out larger ones. Chapter 120: "The Price of Appetite" page 14

Once Shinoa states that she will get Yu back even if she has to kill Mika, he processes her words.[114] Heading to Ikebukuro at Shinoa's suggestion, Kimizuki awaits near Guren for any news. It comes from a soldier who warns that there has been an attack on the civilian settlement of Naka-itabashi. Kimizuki remains crouching as Guren leaps off to go ahead.[115]

Reaching the settlement, with Guren using a boy as a human shield in the face of Yu, along with Mitsuba he strikes Yu from behind. Where Yu has demon horns, Kimizuki shouts for him to quit this crap.[116] Although they had successfully located and reached Yu, he along with the squad would fail to prevent him and Mika from leaving.

Likely the case that the squad had separated from Guren and the vampires to search for Yu, from then Kimizuki had began another search for Shinoa who had sought time alone. As a member of the squad, Kimizuki was referred to by Mitsuba who mentioned to Shinoa that the team would be worried should their leader be in a funk. His name is mentioned after Yoichi's when Mitsuba is telling Shinoa that they are all feeling hurt over what happened.[117]

It is possible that Kimizuki was searching with Yoichi but whether the case or not, he is with him when they have found Shinoa's location. For how much of the conversation he happened across, it is likely on account that Shinoa and Mitsuba were discussing their feelings for Yu as to why he kept quiet. That Mahiru supposedly destroyed the world for love where she manipulated Guren, along with Shinya, and Kureto may have been details heard by Kimizuki. For what was clearly a matter of Shinoa and Mitsuba discussing fighting for Yu's love, Kimizuki awaits the conversation to play out. Had he not been there, Kimizuki would have likely been contacted by Mitsuba after Shinoa said for her to bring the rest of the squad.

With Mitsuba noticing him behind, and Yoichi speaking that they are already here, Kimizuki attempts to look away to the point he may as well pretend that he in fact did not hear anything. Evidently registering Shinoa and Mitsuba's shocked and frankly horrified expressions respectively, Kimizuki says as much and claims they did not hear anything. He adds at least that is the story they are sticking to.

For Mitsuba's alarm that they heard everything, Kimizuki counters that they had to know they were there since they were looking together. In response to Mitsuba's outrage over being embarrassed, Kimizuki fires back then why did she keep talking after. After Mitsuba states this is the first time that Shinoa has ever talked so much about herself, Kimizuki seems to recognize this. Kimizuki is hardly keen to reveal who he likes after Shinoa states that it is only fair that he and Yoichi now share this information.[118]

Having moved to a section of grass, Kimizuki sits near Yoichi and Mitsuba while awaiting Shinoa's announcement. He hears Shinoa's declaration that it is Shinoa Squad's turn to beat Mahiru, as well as the Lt. Colonel, the vampires too. After Shinoa concludes that they intend to live their lives how they want, Kimizuki clarifies whether that means their plan is to bring bring back their families as well as get Yu back.

Can I take that to mean that our plan... ...Is to bring our families back to life, and also get Yu back?

–Clarifying what Shinoa means after announcing that Shinoa Squad will beat Guren, Mahiru, the vampires, and live how they want. Chapter 133: "Maidens in Love" Page 25

After checking that, Kimizuki's question is in the context of his follow up one. Told by Shinoa that is an excellent idea, Kimizuki asks how is that different from the Lt. Colonel's goals, to hear it is perhaps not by much. As a part of the squad, Kimizuki is asked if he can bring himself to trust Shinoa when she did not have a reason to live until recently. Now standing, Kimizuki is the only one to speak where he says out of the options he would indeed take Shinoa. An immediate reply, it is a concern for Kimizuki however that having said that, they clearly have less power than the Lt. Colonel and the others.[119]

If I had to pick between the two, I'd take you. Yeah. That said, we clearly have less power than the Lt. Colonel and the others...

–Promptly choosing loyalty to Shinoa's side, yet wary of the strength other factions have. Chapter 133: "Maidens in Love" Page 26

When Shinoa suddenly displays a new ability of being able to summon other peoples' demons there and then, Kimizuki is shocked to see Kiseki-o physically manifested.[120]

Powers and Abilities

Natural abilities

Having a high intelligence, Kimizuki was the top of his class in all subjects and regularly earned perfect scores. This is across a range of areas, he earned 100s on each of his Latin, English, and Japanese spellcraft exams. This does not seem to be a result of extensive study, Kimizuki sleeps in class while the others are listening to their teacher during the lesson.

From the right, Latin spellcraft, English spellcraft, Japanese spellcraft. Man, I've gotta say, English and Latin are rough for me. I could never be like you, Mr. I'm-a-special-case Yūichirō.

–Speaking to Yu when revealing his perfect test scores. Chapter 6: "Black Asura"

Noted by Sayuri, he is one of the strongest students in her class and is able to make a contract with a Black Demon. In the initiation ceremony, Kimizuki is the one that managed to seal a contract with his demon the quickest. Having an innate means of resisting demonic energies, where other students fainted, Kimizuki could endure, he also acts decisely to turn a result to his favor.

In terms of fighting skills, Shihō is shown to be very strong. His swordsmanship skills are initially on par with Yu, and he is able to dodge and deflect the swords from Yu's Asura-Kannon easily. In his squad, he is one of the melee fighters and have the role of the vanguard, the one Shinoa has in mind when direct confrontation with a foe is needed.

Cursed Gear

Kiseki-o (鬼箱王 Kiseki-Ō?, lit. "King of the Demon Box"): A possession-type demon weapon of the Black Demon Series. It takes the form of connected twin swords.

  • The Devil's Coffin: Kiseki-o's special ability involves manifesting a black coffin where a voice will count down from nine before opening. Anyone who hears the full nine count within melee range will be forcefully captured into the devil's coffin upon reaching that number. Once caught inside, the coffin can somehow 'knock the demon out' of whoever is inside it, which successfully voided Yu's power who was a partial demon, and return him to normal. Not even Crowley wanted to go near the coffin, saying that the vibe he gets from it is very unpleasant, Yu also comments on the vibes from it where it may literally generate a type of aura.
    • Twin Coffins: Not only are two coffins able to be summoned but both can be done instantaneously. They can also appear in close proximity such as on either side of a target. No verbal activation is required for them to open and fire a barrage of spiked dark projectiles at close range.
  • Demon realm transportation: Able to access the demon realm and bring others with him, Kimizuki could reach where Sika Madu was to attack him. He attempted to generate a coffin to send the First to another world. The coffin itself can be used for verbal communications.

Quotes

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign

I'm top of the class in all subjects, Sir. You can't possibly be thinking of giving that chance to that loud-mouthed idiot who they say killed a vampire.

–Kimizuki to Guren. "The Worst Pair"

This whole time, you've all been blathering about how we're 'friends' and 'companions.' But to be blunt... I don't believe that for a second. Yoichi and I were called by the higher-ups. The Hīragi family. They practically arrested us, and then they interrogated us. They asked us over and over, 'What happened on that battlefield?' Only that. I said I didn't know anything and was just following your orders. They bought it. Was that the 'right' answer? Okay, so how long will keeping a secret be the 'right answer'? Are we going to try to keep it from our allies—from him—for good? I thought Lieutenant Colonel Guren would explain. But he hasn't. And from the way this moron is acting, it looks like he doesn't know. Shinoa. He doesn't remember that he tried to kill you... or anything else, does he? So, here's my question. Are we all truly friends? Is this 'family' thing for real? If it is, then as soon as he wakes up... I'm telling him everything. But if it's just a front... to let you use Yu's whatever-that-was... [Then, I will do] nothing. I'll stay because I need money for my sister's medical care. But I'll only be in it for the money. Not because we're 'friends.' I won't be your knight in shining armor. I'll pretend to get along, and try not to vomit out of disgust.

–Kimizuki to Shinoa. "Cause for Madness"

...What're you looking at? All I have to do to get warm is sit closer to the fire. But if this dunce catches a cold, he'll lag behind in training, which delays my training.

–To his squad after he gives Yu his jacket Chapter 20 "The Demon's Nightmare"

Mirai... I'm sorry. But first... can I tell you something? See, uh... Not long ago, when you weren't around, I met this kid. His name is Yu. Can I tell you a little about him? He's a total idiot. He drives me up the wall with everything he does. I hate his guts. He's annoying, and he always does the stupidest things. I swear, he doesn't have two brain cells to rub together. I can't put up with him. But there's this one thing... that he's always saying. He wants to save his family. A family member of his is captured, and he wants to rescue him. They aren't even blood-related, but he's still risking his life to save him. Can you believe that? That's so stupid..... That's right, Demon. I don't have to let what he does affect me. But I can hardly let that blockhead show me up, now can I? And in my case, we are blood-related. So if the only solution is to kill my sister... then I'll choose death. I'll never do what you say, demon.

–Kimizuki against Kiseki-o. Chapter 21 "Kiseki-o's Box"

Yeah. So what? Have you seen this cracked and rotten world? There's no one without darkness inside.

–Kimizuki to Kiseki-o. "Kiseki-o's Box"

Kiseki-o. On the count of nine... open the devil's coffin. One. Two. Three. Four. Ah. HEY!! NO RUNNING AWAY!!

–Directing his power against Yu, and reacting to him falling back. "Kiseki-o's Box"

Y'know, I've never given two craps if either of you like me.

–Kimizuki to Mitsuba and Shinoa after they try to ditch him on the side of the road. Chapter 24 "The Moon Demon's Orders"

Yu...? Please... Yu... My sister... You have to save her...

–Shiho Kimizuki Chapter 41 "Arrogant Love"

I agree too. I don't trust anybody aside from the people standing here in this circle.

–Agreeing to Mika's idea "Where It All Begins"

Even if it is a lie, this story makes disturbing sense. Did the Lieutenant Colonel really cause the catastrophe...? Maybe. And thanks to that, my sister fell ill. Then she was used as a guinea pig. What I want to know is how does it all work...?

–Considering what he has heard Chapter 48 "The Making of an Angel"

So, uh... that means...? If we go by what he told us, it sounds like the experiment first starts when humans try to resurrect the dead. So then... 1) Humans revive the dead. 2) That action is forbidden, thus earning divine wrath. 3) An 'angel of destruction' appears and destroys the world. Is that how it goes? When I saw my sister that day, she had what looked like angel wings. And it also looked like she was being bound by some kind of chain. Then, to top it all off, that enormous monster appeared. What was that all about?

–Processing what he knows "The Making of an Angel"

Demons are even less trustworthy than vampires.

–Views on each. "The Making of an Angel"

Because you're talking toddler gibberish! Speak normally!

–Wanting Yu to explain the battle he and Mika had with Guren and Krul's sibling link to Asuramaru and not in toddler gibberish Chapter 95 "A Demon's Tale" page 10

Moron! How stupid do you have to be to let him convince you easily?! The Lt. Colonel killed Mikaela, remembers?! (...) How does that count as 'saving' him?! That's just turning him into a tool that we use!

–Angered at Yu trusting Guren's words, reminding him of what he recently done and pointing out how being turned into cursed gear is not a good thing. Chapter 99 "Mortal Love" page 21
